I found a picture for a grey butcherbird From wikipedia Hope that helps.
  5. okay, nothing like being mysterious is there?
  6. Starting to look like real birds! Very cute baby budgies you have there.
  7. I'm not sure about the US, but we get our bands through our bird club. They in turn get the rings through the Avicultural Advancement Council of Canada. See here for the explanation - http://www.aacc.ca/rings.htm The club does not hand them out until very late December so people can start banding in early January. Our colours are: 1981 Red 1982 Blue 1983 Orange 1984 Black 1985 Yellow 1986 Green 1987 Purple 1988 Red 1989 Blue 1990 Orange 1991 Red 1992 Blue 1993 Silver 1994 Orange 1995 Purple 1996 Green 1997 Red 1998 Light Blue 1999 Silver 2000 Orange 2001 Purple 2002 Green 2003 Red 2004 - Blue (Dark with white letters) 2005 -Silver 2006 - Orange 2007 - Purple 2008 - Green (dark) 2009 - Red 2010 - Blue (dark) etc.

    What about butcherbirds?
  9. WHOOPS! I forgot the opaline part. Good eye!
  10. I won't be breeding them for quite a while yet, but I'm curious as to what we may get. Tango is a green dilute spangle and I believe that we worked out the Mango is most likely a violet sky spangle. I have a sheet somewhere that tells me what Tango's mother was (I know it was a green, but the exact mutation escapes me at the moment). So, what sort of babies could we expect after they get together (if they like each other that much!).
  11. I just spent ages looking for that sheet. I put it away somewhere to keep it safe. I think I kept it too safe! Hopefully I'll find it soon. I seem to recall you marking that she was born in February, but I could be wrong. They seem to mostly get along. A few little spats, but that's all they are. Little spats. They spent most of last night preening each other. They even preened near eyes, so I guess that means they seem to trust each other so far. When I left them upstairs, they were both playing with the string on the end of that toy with the beads on it. They each have their own end of the rope. Kathleen was excited, but told me "They don't match Mommy!"
  12. I finally put Tango and Mango together in the same cage. So far so good! Both were preening each other and seem to get along. All pics are from today. Mango Tango Mango meeting Tango
  13. Well, a question I can answer. Do not mix finches and budgies. The finches will most get hurt by the budgies. Generally speaking, when budgies are kept in the same cage as finches, the finches lose toes and get pecked by the budgies. Even side by side cages can be dangerous as the budgies will grab whatever they can through the cage bars. I'm sure someone has done this and had it work, but odds are not good. My opinion is to not have the finches in with the budgie. If you do want the finches around, a separate cage out of reach of any budgie (or other parrot) is a must.
  14. Sorry about baby 3, but glad to hear that the others are doing well for you so far.
  15. Pretty....
  16. What about putting a split legring on them so you know who they belong to?
  17. How big is your cage? That will determine how many birds you can put in it.
  18. okay, we have 9 days left in our quarantine of Mango and Tango. When we introduce them, we'll do it with cages beside each other at first. I think I can figure out if they like each other enough to let them visit each other until we make the move into one cage permanent. However, what if they don't like each other? Is it still possible for them to get along enough to live in one cage? Is there anything we could do to help the situation? I just want to be prepared for both situations. :feedbirds:

Curious, how do they allow you to quarantine your birds at your own home? What is the "Pets Travel Scheme"?

Sure sounds like a wonderful place to raise some budgies that you've bred yourself. I see nothing wrong with breeding your own budgies (be they petstore, breeder or rescue budgies), as long as you have plans for the babies. I wish I had that much room to do stuff like that. I'd probably have a zoo! Oh wait... I do! :budgiedance: At any rate Candace, good luck with the birds.
  21. I'm very sorry to hear about the baby bird Kirby I don't think that it's your fault. I think that it may have been one of those things. It wasn't getting fed and you thought you'd try to find a subsitute mother for the baby. The mother you chose didn't want to be chosen at that time. Unfortunately, she took it out on the baby. You tried to help with what you had. It would be worse if you hadn't tried to save it. Though, with the air escaping his chest, I seriously doubt that it would have made it no matter what you did. I'm really very sorry about this, and let's hope that the other babies get taken care of better. little pink blob.
  22. I think he should be Steve-O.
  23. Ummm. No idea on weight, but your question should be: How much should a budgie weigh?
  24. We've got squirrels too you know.
