Oh My Goodness
All is going well and the younger ones are looking very healthy. I've been ckecking them all over every day, especially their legs as they all seem to be sleeping on top of each other and I'm worried about splayed legs. The older ones love pecking all over you hand and one little one in between youngest and oldest tries to climb out of the box whenI open the lid, it is a green one and really cheeky I will try to get pics later today Cindy

Oh My Goodness
My eyes do not believe what I am seeing. One of my hens has 8 babies, the eldest is 17 days the youngest 2 days. As this is her 2nd clucth, I was sure most eggs would be infertile, she laid 9, as luck was on my side the last was infertile. All babies are well fed, sleep lots, and only squawk at feeding times. The other has 6 babies from 9 eggs, which is a far better size clutch. Both 'daddy birds' are eating me out of house and home and get very excited when they see fresh food coming through the door. :feedbirds: I will have to watch closely and remove Mum if she even looks like laying any more eggs. I let both sets of Parents out for a fly and play in the aviary (they are in breeding cabinets) every day, in the hope she will not lay again. Cindy

Splayed Legs
Thanks 'Sailorwolf'We do have wood shavings in the nest box. but I think this little fellow's leg was malformed more than spalyed as the Vet said it was on the top of his hip and 90 degrees to his bodyCindy Thank you Kaz, I did not notice until he was almost 5 weeks as Mum was very protective of this one. Even when I cleaned out his box I just held him in my hand in front of Momma, but did not notice his legs at that stage.Cherie

Splayed Legs
I have just had a clutch to a new hen and one baby had a very splayed leg of which the Vet said could not be fixed. The Vet also said it is hereditary. Is this so. If it is a fact , then I dont want to breed this hen again. I know it is not the male as I have used him over several years and always had healthy babies I would appreciate all comments Cindy

Squeak And His Mate
Yes, he is a cheeky boy, when he is naughty, which is often, he looks at you as if to say, You can't get angry with me, I've got crippled feet see, they just only hang on to the wrong things. He looks a real fatty but the Vet said he is underweight, and doesn't think he will (Vets words not mine) amount to anything. Blah to that Cindy

Chocolate Anyone?
When I was given my latest hen, I was told she was a 'chocolate" so she is aptly names that. But I have not heard of that colour before. She is a between a grey and a beige (depending on the light) and has brown markings on her wings. Hubby reckons she is a pale brown Yes, I know you want a picture, but the real colours do not come out, she always turns out a blue in the film Has anyone heard of chocolate before. Her babies also came out a bluey sahde in the pics (breeder chat) Cindy

What Mutation
Yippee! I might keep him for a playmate for Squeak, as I don't want him (Squeak) to try to mate with a female because of all his deformities. But I think he could do with the Company Thanks Nerwen Cindy

Squeak And His Mate
Remember my little deformed squeak, who has a lot of problems. One being his twisted feet, also a soft beak, and apparently picked up some virus in the nest when born that causes his flight feathers to break off and bleed a lot. The Vet said he will get arthritis in his legs in a couple of years. But he has fallen madly in love with an imitation bird and he is either trying to feed it and even 'has his way with it' Well this is him now He is also showing the new baby how to escape the cage and hide in the pot plants. he is supposed to be showing him how to behave Cindy

Crazy Mommas
Hi everyone, I'm back again after selling my breeders and 'retiring' huh!!! Well I kept my original "Bruce" and Aaron's pair, but sadly she died. After a while I decided they needed new partners for company ONLY... Well Aarons 'Sonny' and 'Kylie' (named after KAW) had 6 eggs, and she hatched them in this order, Sunday, Monday Tuesday, Thursday (that poor little one died just after hatching) and another on Saturday.7th Bruce and his partner 'Dusty' (a chocolate, again from KAW) have 5 eggs. She hatched two on Saturday 7th one at 8AM and the other at 12 noon? So again, I seem to have hens that don't want to stay with the normal hatching cycle Cindy

You and me both, Phoebe. I had heard of them but had never seen them until the other day. They look like what Aussies refer to as 'bushtucker food' :wine Cherie
