Grate At Bottom Of Cage
No probs. For the more stubborn ones... (like ones that pile right up because it's your budgie's favourite spots... give it a second spraying... I can't say I've ever encounter night fright with my birds yet... knock on wood though... so I'm not sure how that would go.

What Am I?
interesting.. What would make a bird 'olive', and what would make a bird 'grey green'?? I seem to always get these two mixed up!!!

Grate At Bottom Of Cage
I agree with having grate... all my cages have grates (accept for aviary of course).. I find that it is easier to clean.. and for the job of cleaning the grates, I use vinegar mix with water (one to ten ratio), spray it on, and leave it for a minute or so, then wipe off.. it comes off just like fresh stuff!!! (Laughing out loud)...

Aloe Vera
Wow, if that's the case of it being unnatural.. Do you feed any of your birds pellets? Do you trim their wings? Do you keep them in a cage? All these are unnatural as well. You know.. it might not in in budgies cases, but as far as I know, Spraying the birds with Aloe mix with water helps them keep their skin moist in our home which are very dry in comparison to the natural environment that they live in. I have heard of many cases where it has help pluckers relieve their inchiness of their dry skin, and helping the plucking problems.

Oh geeze Hommer.. why do you keep tempting me with new baby photos!! Oh how adorable they are!!! Love them.

Aloe Vera
Umm not a budgie, but my mum actually eats aloe on a regular basis.. yeah, fresh off the plant. I would have no qualm about feeding my fids aloe either. I have heard of many people that put a little in their fids water which helps sooth and calm their birds?!?!?! They don't have any problem with it.

Feathers Turning Yellow
okay.. she finally answered some of my question... Yes the budgie seems to be molting at the moment.. No there's nothing in the cage (or surrounding) that could turn it's head yellow... and I've got some pics.. but it's too large, so it's a link... The owner seems to think that it is part of the feather colouring, and not just something that rubbed off... http://www.centralmaineweb.com/sarah/yellow.jpg Any suggestion why this is happening?? Thanks. P.S.. the budgie hangs out with a cockatiel.. so now the mommy thinks she's trying become a cockatiel with the yellow crest!!!

Scaly Face
oh dear... guess I'll have to make an appointment with the vet... Yes it was me. I just looked at the rest of the birds.. seven in quarantine together... and i'll be treating all those. Should I treat the other ones that they haven't come in contact with yet? Oh when I treat these guys... do I need to disinfect the cage as well?? Just wondering.. I think I'll do it anyway... but just thought I'd ask if it needs to be done. Oh and also.. I was wondering how do they pick up scaly mites? Would you need an infected birds to do that? Or do I need to keep an eye out for them constantly??

Scaly Face
Thanks all... I am asking because I've noticed some 'roughness' on one of my new babies which is about to come out of quarantine... but then I saw it on her face... Here are some pics and close ups of her beak.... What do you guys think? I think it's scaly, but hoping I'm wrong.. but I seriously doubt that I'm wrong though. Anyway... Should I treat this little girl or take her to the vet? or is this normal?? I haven't seen budgies with beak quite so rough before... Help please. Thanks. The right side of the beak... Close up of it... The left side of the beak/face Close up of it... Oh, just on that, I think I first noticed it a week ago, and it hadn't gotten too much worse. Didn't cross my mind that it could be scaly mite until only very recently...like last night... And also her feet is perfectly normal, not dry or crusty or anything like that. No other crusty bits around the face that I can see either. Which is why i'm asking now.. to nip it at it's bud before it gets any worse. If anyone could shed some lights on that beak, that'll be great! Thank you so very much in advance. P.S... Kaz, I do know the vet you're talking about. He's the best avian vet in Perth. I'll be going to him if I need to take this little one to a vet..

Scaly Face
Can someone please tell me what's the first sign of scaly face? I mean what to look for before the crusty bits and the honeycombs appear on their face. Thank you. I've looked around the net and researched it, but nothing seems to tell me the very first sign to look out for. They have lots of info and pics of already infected birds and how bad it looks, but nothing as a warning before it gets really bad. And also how long will it take scaly face to get from first sign of trouble to being bad? Is it like a really quick time period? or is it spread over a longer and slower time period? Thanks heaps. Feathers Turning Yellow
Hi, I belong to a general parrot forum. a member there has a blue Opaline budgie whose head feathers seems to be turning yellow in the last couple of weeks... There was no sign of yellow on the budgie before that. I don't have too much more info at the moment. Since there's not many budgies owners there on that particular forum, I thought I'd ask here if that's okay with the mods and the rest of the members. Can the yellowface factor come out during the first molt? or is something wrong with the budgie to cause the feathers to turn yellow now? Should she take the little girl to the vet now to make sure that everything is okay? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks. I hope I've put the question in the right forum.
