I wouldn't like to see more than 2 flighted birds in this size cage.
  2. It will happen when they are 'in season'. Females' ceres especially will grow up to 3mm in some cases of my hens. When a male is especially 'full of vigor' his cere can also grow. It does not affect their breathing. In saying the above, keep a close watch on your birds if you become concerned that all is not well then by all means a visit to the vet is in order.
  3. My little Angel is doing really well. Her wing flaps are getting stronger all the time. She can grip with her right foot. Her left foot is stuffed though, she uses her left foot to balance as she can now stand and she shuffles along the floor - this is very cute to watch. :hap: Her bites are getting harder. I know when she is hungry and wants to go back into her cage as she really starts to gnaw on my finger! :(Laughing out loud): You pointing that thing at me again! Maybe if I feign disinterest she'll put it away? Who's that lurking over there? *sighs* okay lets get this over with!
  4. I wonder if I'll get a parrot in my Trill Parrot Box? *runs off to check* Nope, no parrot. :hap:
  5. Sorry to about the death of your friend. Necropsy is around $100 or so - pretty much what a vet visit costs - something to think about.

Pity you didn't live closed - my father is a great spider killer, we jump on the furniture & he jumps on the spider. Yesterday he killed a 25cm spider on our garage. Just as well I didn't see it as I'd probably be in a coma! : Get as long a stick as possible and pull the web down from each corner, you should then see where the spider is, with your really long stick ((Laughing out loud)) poke it until it runs and try & stab it (what I do). Or have someone ready with a flat blade shovel. Otherwise in the corners away from the wire squirt a little Surface Spray which will make the spider stay away. Every so often I remove all birds from the aviary, scrub the walls, wash em with vinegar & then spray surface spray over every surface, let it air for 2-3 days then put everything back. That keeps my spiders away (touch wood).
  7. I myself have cut down on the amount of breeding that I let my birds do because I have been accepting rehomed birds. If you still like to have some breeding, allocate one cage that you'll let the breeding continue and keep your others for rehomed/rescued birds.
  8. Eldest bub didn't make it and died yesterday afternoon.
  9. I completely fell head over heels in love with that video! They were so cute!!!
  10. You're very welcome! Boris becomes very obnoxious if she's not outside for her daily 'dose' of fresh air. :ausb:
  11. For the milder temperate zones I probably wouldn't put them outside at all for temperatures lower than 0 Celcius, at 0-10 celcius only for about an hour. 10+ celcius for as long as you want. Remember their feathers would provide alot of warmth & when they jump around that also increases their warmth. I just wouldn't put them outside when it is windy as that could make them ill.

I always get into trouble because I spend too much time cleaning my cages. I don't spend all that time cleaning! Half the time I spend watching and talking to the birds. One thing that is always special to me when I'm in the aviary is a non tame bird will come up to me to play with my hair or nibble my nose. :(Laughing out loud):
  14. I'd also like to suggest putting them outside for a few hours a day to get fresh air. Now I understand it is winter in the US now so probably limit it to 2 hours during the middle of the day and on really cold days no more than 1 hour and on windy days put them by a window. Budgie's love being outside & my Boris will expend so much energy jumping around & calling to the wild birds it's amazing how much it puts her in a good mood. :ausb:

Excellent! Well said & written. I may not always agree with you Terri but your words here are without fault and I agree wholeheartedly. Again, well done!
  16. Excellent advice Sailor! Yes, I handle all my babies, while this doesn't tame them it does make it easier in dealing with the hens when it is their turn to nest as they are not frightened. I love it when they get their down & start feathering, I just love the baby bird smell!
  17. nyos check the first post. I have been told previously that the dad is Cobalt & the mum is blue & white pied. Middle baby died & as I only check them on the weekends the dead baby had been in there a few days from the looks of it. I believe as a result of this the eldest baby is very sick & very doubtful to live the weekend. I have fed it antibiotics and am keeping my fingers crossed.
  18. Mine were scared of theirs. So I caught about 6 budgies and took them to the bottle and touched their beaks to the nozzle & they felt the water. They continued to go back & the other birds followed them. They all drink from the bottle now (those in the main aviary that is).
  19. Just make sure you don't give her a kiss! I gave Boris a kiss after she'd been eating and she fed me! :grbud: now that is gross! I hate bird seed!

Is it my imagination or is Blinkie's colour getting darker? He looks 'richer' every time I see him. :budgiedance:
  21. I just love the huge baby budgie eyes! :bluebudgie:
  22. Howdy neighbour! I will certainly post more pics, I only do it once a week so as not to disturb them.
  23. When he was in the nest, him and his siblings got poop stuck to their beaks, the lady was cleaning them up & when cleaning Blue Boy his whole beak broke off. It grew back but abnormal.
  24. He eats like a pig! :(Laughing out loud):
  25. I was kinda hoping for violets but alas they are all cobalts. I am really just happy that they are all healthy. I am thinking they might all be female? but will need someone with more experience to confirm for me. Group shot: Eldest bub: Middle bub: Youngest bub:
