  1. I'd love to keep them all but unfortunately I dont have the room. I will probably sell them as handreared pets to good homes only! Will post some more photoes as they progress!!
  2. Thats a very good question. I do a lot of handrearing and as yet I havent had this problem. I dont think there is much you can do really, except maybe some hot water bottles unless you have a generator!! Anyone else got any good ideas???
  3. Ask and you shall recieve !!! Here are some photoes my son took of me feeding the chicks just a few minutes ago -http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies006.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies005.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies004.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies003.jpg edit: Photos are too large changed to links
  4. Just thought I'd let everyone know that my abandoned babies left to starve by their parents are going very well now they're being regularly fed by moi! They are in a nice warm brooder and are very happy! Pretty sure they're all going to be blue and white pieds like mum and dad. I feed them with an eyedropper and they gobble it down like there's no tomorrow! They're so cute!! :bluebudgie: :ausb: :ausb:
  5. I breed them all in their own seperate breeding cages. I dont mind handrearing them, they are fairly easy to look after at this age. I'm just glad I found them in time! :ausb:
  6. Here are some photoes of the poor little things! http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../budgies002.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jenene283/bidgoes.jpg
  7. They are only 2 weeks old. I dont know just how long they havent been fed but they are quite thin. I am feeding them every couple of hours so they should pull through okay. Will they do the same thing with the next clutch??
  8. A few weeks ago I posted a topic about my poor little newly hatched chick that wasnt being fed. I had managed to keep it alive for its first few days of life until the parents got the hang of what to do. I put him back with them and up until now they were thriving. When I went out this morning to check on all of them, I could hear a terrible noise coming from their next box. When I opened it up the mother was attacking him and his two siblings. She has stopped feeding them again. I am ashamed to say I didnt check them yesterday as I was at work and didnt get home until dark - as things had been fine up until now! So now they are with me in a nice warm brooder and being hand fed and will remain with me until fully weaned! I cant understand why the parents do this, it is so cruel!

It sounds like they like each other and thats a good start! Have you got a nest box in their cage? If your hens cere is a deep brown she is in breeding condition. If you havent already got a nest box in their cage I would be placing one in there for them. Good luck! :budgiedance:
  10. What a gorgeous pair of birds, I have a pair very similar. Maybe the cock is feeding her and you just havent seen him! Hens are very protective of their babies, and I speak from experience, they can bite VERY hard!
  11. I put a yellow pied with a yellow faced grey and I got one green, two yellow face grey and two normal grey. I honestly thought I would get a few yellow in there somewhere! Not to worry, they are all gorgeous!!
  12. Thats a hard one!! I guess while the hen is feeding her chicks I would leave them with her. But if you find the hen cant cope with the demand (especially when the other eggs hatch) you might be able to foster some of the chicks out. Let us know how she goes.
  13. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if I will always get the same colour chicks everytime I breed the same pair of birds together or will I get a variety of colours from the 2nd clutch??
  14. Thanks, I have been breeding budgies all my life on and off. This time I set up for my son as a hobby for him. But he lost interest, so thats when I took over! And I love it. They are adorable pets and I love them.
  15. How old are your chicks? If they are only tiny it is easier to lay them on their backs, but if they are a few weeks old I just hold them in one hand and feed them either with a syringe or if they are old enough they will eat off the spoon. I have reared them from just hatched right up to ready to wean. If you need any more help just ask!
  16. If you click on the topic of "At last, photoes of breeding cages etc" you will see a photo of some of my babies. The largest baby wasnt being fed when it hatched so I had to rear it for the first few days! That was an experience!
  17. Yes they are breeding cages. Once they are finished breeding I put them into a big aviary for them to rest and recouperate for six months.
  18. Thought I may as well show you the rest of them. Sorry they're not very close, I'm just learning how to do this!
  19. Here are some of my breeding cages and birds that I have. Have been meaning to post these photoes for weeks - finally got around to it.! And these are my babies! The largest one ( with eyes nearly open under other ones)is the one I had to hand feed for the first few days and nights of his life as Mum wasnt interested. Motherhood was a bit of a shock and took her a while to come to terms with it. ! She has got the hang of it now!!
  20. What a gorgeous budgie! I love those colours - hopefully I might be able to find one exactly the same one day!
  21. His parents are both yellow pieds. He does have siblings but they are sold. One was yellow just like him and the other was a blue and white pied.Very interesting to get a white and blue out of two yellow!!
  22. They are starting to eat seed, I am trying to wean them but it is so hard when they are crying out for the handrearing mix, I give in and end up giving them some. I try and give them small amounts just a few times a day so they learn they have to eat the seed. They are 6 weeks old and love to fly around the house. They have another sibling, must be a hen, cause she bites - HARD!!
  23. These two are the latest addition to my nursery, pretty sure they are both yellow face greys. Their mum is a yellow pied and dad a yellow face grey. I did it. I actually posted a photo and it worked!! Thanks Kaz!!
  24. Thankyou so much for fixing the photo. I dont know what I'm doing wrong. It is so frustrating!!! Sorry about the messy faces on these birds, it was just a practice photo and didnt have time to clean them up!!
  25. Just wanted to show you all some more of my handreared budgies. Forgive me if the photo is a bit small, I am only a beginner at this.
