  1. Well they are definately old enough to breed. Have you got a breeding cabinet for them? The cock birds cere should be a nice dark blue and the hens a deep brown.
  2. The fact that he was feeding her is a very good sign. How old are they? They should be over 12 months old to breed from.
  3. How exciting!!!! You are very lucky!! I have 2 eggs now from my only pair I have left. Might have to put some King Parrot eggs under the budgie like I did last year. she lays the eggs but doesnt sit on them. I have my own incubator but the real thing is better.
  4. Glad they're going well for you. No 3 hatched yet???
  5. Hi Kirby Just wondering why you are hand feeding your babies if their parents are feeding them also? I know its not going to harm them but from what I've learnt is that the parents provide "crop milk" to their chicks ( a bit like humans milk for babies which has loads of goodness) and this is the case also for baby birds. So if I was you, I would leave well enough alone and let the parents feed them and then when they get a bit older maybe then you can start hand feeding them. I just thought I'd let you know that little snippet of information as I know how much you love your budgies and I dont want anything to happen to them!!!!
  6. Sorrry to be the bearer of bad news but I was told I had to cull my birds as French Moult is extremely contagous. I was advised also not to breed from their parents.
  7. Will post some pics as soon as I can.
  8. After losing all my breeding budgies a few weeks ago to some ******* letting them all out except for 1 and me catching one, I put them in a breeding cabinet and today they presented me with one nice new shiny white egg!!! So in a few weeks I too will have some tiny pink bubbies as well!!!
  9. My guess is French Moult. I had my whole clutch diagnosed with it last year. Could be wrong but looks very similar......
  10. You're very lucky you have got the weekend to watch over your new arrivals!! I'm just as bad as you with my Major Mitchells and King Parrots stc.I'm actually thinking of putting in nest box cameras so I know whats going on in there! Good luck with No 2!
  11. Wow Kirby he is adorable!!! No doubt about it, he IS being fed!! Congrats!!!
  12. How is Abba going Kirby?? Hope he/she's okay. Now that the parents have figured out that they have to feed these pink squirmy little aliens, the others due to hatch should be okay as well. Good luck!!!!
  13. Dont know what to tell you about air in their crops. I havent had that problem before but I would think they should be okay. Loved the pics - cant wait to see them fully feathered!!
  14. Thats fantastic news Kirby!!!!! Yipeeeeeeee!!! I am so happy for you!!!! Told you everything would work out fine. Sometimes it takes the mother a few hours to feed their bubs, so dont panic so much! Have a great day at school!!!
  15. It wasnt your fault Kirby. Newly hatched chicks are extremely hard to hand rear. I have been doing it for years and I still have problems, so dont go blaming yourself. You did your best. Try and use an eye dropper next time instead of a syringe. I find I have more control it you are able to feed the chick a drop at a time. They need to be able to swallow their food gradually. :angel1:
  16. Kirby I have sent you a pm. Good luck
  17. Wow Kirby! When is she going to stop?? The most mine have laid is 6! You must be very excitied!! I'm sure you'll let us all know when they start arriving! The only pair I have left have mated up and am expecting eggs soon. :budgiedance: I find when there are a lot of babies in the one nest the older ones sometimes squash the newly hatched ones so keep an eye out for that problem as there is a lot of difference in size.

Thought I would show everyone my aviaries that my partner built for me. As it get very hot up here I was wondering how I could provide some shade. Anyone got any ideas??http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../parrots010.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../parrots009.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../parrots008.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../parrots007.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../parrots006.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../parrots005.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jenene283/parrots004.jpg Moderator’s Message to user images are larger than allowed and have been change to a link by a very evnvious administrator
  19. You are in a bit of a dilemma arent you Kirby!! I have had first-time mothers manage 5-6 babies with no problems so hopefully your hen will manage okay too. I think maybe Ariel might be giving up on the hope of her eggs hatching and I dont think theres much you can do about it. Hopefully she will sit on them for another week or so but I wouldnt hold my breath if I was you. Maybe some other breeders will have some ideas on what to do..... Good luck
  20. I wonder Kirby is this the reaction you will have when you learn your wife is expecting??? (Laughing out loud)!!!!! I love your enthusiasm! Good on you!!! Cant wait for some pics!!
  21. congrats Kirby on your eggs! It is very exciting! I wonder how many she will end up laying. I dont know if you have read my post but all bar one of my birds were let out the other day when I was out (we dont know who) so I will have to start all over again. One came back yesterday but there has been no sign any more yet. I have larger parrots as well and they are all in the breeding mood so that has cheered me up somewhat. But I loved my budgies very much and now they are all gone. (Next time I will padlock my cage.)
  22. Thanks everyone. Hopefully some more will manage to find their way home.
  23. Just an update about all my budgies that were let out the other day. I found one of them sitting on the fence just near the aviary . I think he was just so glad to find his way home he almost let me catch him but he wasnt quite that trusting. so I got his food bowl and put it just near him. He hopped on straight away and I slowly but surely carried the bowl back into the aviary. So now I have two!! Havent seen or heard of any of the others around. I have put the word out for people to keep an eye out for them but have had no response. But I wont give up yet.
  24. He was in Cairns filming a documentary when he was bitten by a sting ray and died instantly. The whole of Australia is in shock.
  25. It is only just starting to sink in and am feeling physically sick. Thanks everyone for your sentiments. What an awful day - and then to top it all off Steve Irwin is killed. What a sad, sad day.......
