My First Hen To Attack Her Mate
Just this morning I heard some squabbling coming from the breeding cabinets down stairs. It seemed to be going on for too long and thinking the worst I raced downstairs to see what was going on. The cock bird was bleeding from the top of his beak - I didnt know what to think. Had he attacked the chicks inside the nest or did the hen attack him? I very slowly opened the lid of the nest box prepared to see some sore and sorry chicks but all was well in there, phew! So it had to be that the hen had attacked him. And while I was there looking at them, they started fighting in front of me, so I quickly got him out of there and have left the hen to rear them, will be keeping a very close eye on the chicks. What makes then suddenly turn on each other??

Didnt Take Long At All!
I have just inspected all the nest boxes and most of them have 2 eggs already and some just one. I have paired a gorgeous new pair up that I adore. One is a yellow-face blue and the other? well it has a yellow face too with a bluey greeny colour.(Sorry I dont know the correct term)They havent laid yet but she spends a lot of time in the nest box so that's a good sign!!! My Major Mitchell chicks have opened their eyes and starting to get little pin feathers on their wings, sorry I know this is :fear but everything is just perfect at my place at the moment!!!!

Colony Or Selective Breeding
I cabinet breed. I find it so much easier all round. There's no squabbling, or throwing out of eggs etc etc etc and you know who the fathers are :budgiedance: !!! As a matter of fact I had 4 newly-paired budgies lay eggs today, all on the same day!!

Just How Many Times Should You Let Budgies Breed Each Year?
After reading a reply to one of my posts regarding pairing up my birds for breeding. one member of the forum commented that some of his birds were on their 3rd round, I was always under the impression twice a year was the absolute max! What do you think?

8 Pairs Of "ready To Breed Budgies"!
Isnt it funny how they know?? My Major Mitchells were the first ones to breed this season, they started in early September quickly followed by the Princesses so by the time the really hot weather arrives the chicks will have left the nest.

8 Pairs Of "ready To Breed Budgies"!
I did intend to wait till January to pair up my birds but I have noticed in the last week or so how dark their ceres were and this to me tells me they are ready to breed NOW! So yesterday I took the whole afternoon pairing them up and placing them in their breeding cabinets with the cuttlefish, fresh fruit and veg etc etc. One pair took one look at the nesting box and went straight into it - so that's a good sign!! Hopefully I will reporting the arrival of eggs very soon!!!

"Strange" isnt the word for it, it was @#$#@%@ frustrating!!!! I gave up in the end and last night was the 1st time I had tried for a while, so its possible the problem whatever it was has been fixed ages ago....
