  1. Female Your batting average is pretty bad for sexing budgies Jets ............ I bet you end up with lots of "surprises" once your budgies ceres colour up.
  2. Bush budgies easily found on petlink au. Genuine bush budgies should only ever come in green, green and green. If you are getting anything else by breeding your bush budgies then you have been "had" and you havent real bush budgies.
  3. agreed ..............most of them give up before the chick is fully raised when there is only one
  4. Good reasons for checking fertility of eggs 1.you can stop a hen sitting on infertile eggs for no good reason..........chuck out the duds and let her start again. 2. If a nest has only one fertile egg you can move that to a nest of eggs of a similar stage and let the hen start again. 3. Consolidate nests............any low fertility nests can be combined with others ( i.e. 2-3 fertiles in one nest put with 2 fertiles in another ) in this way you free up a hen to proceed with a new clutch. I dont believe in letting a hen sit on useless infertile eggs for weeks with no result. Best work out whats going on earlier and make choices.
  5. I havent run my mozzie zapper for over a year but still no moths in my bran nesting materials
  6. Glad you knew what you were talking about cos we didnt :D :D
  7. Please explain the probably dead comments
  8. I dont have issues with moths in nests but in case I run a mozzie zapper so they dont take hold in the birdroom anyway.
  9. Flakey bran is from stockfeed places and good bird supply stores. I bought a 40 kilo sack from a stockfeed place for $26
  10. Use the search function and type in APPLE CIDER VINEGAR and you will find masses of info to answer your question. Before posting some new topics, do a search. this forum is extensive as is our FAQ section.....We have covered just about verything
  11. I've tried them all..............and now I wont go past using flakey bran. Its edible so its safe. Its a bedding the hens cant remove from the nestbox. It stays where its put including making a depression in it for a concave. If I run out of flakey bran I use dry porridge oats ( normal or quick oats ) ............also edible so safe.
  12. FAQ section makes great reading when there are so many questions

  14. You know when you use the spot on flea treatment for dogs and cats ? They also say to treat the environment as well as the spot on on the animals.
  15. Well I understand that even if they hide during the day they still return at night to have another feed and that is when they would be poisoned. What am I missing? What you are missing Renee...........is the fact of how virulent and hard to be rid of they are and that the clean up is a very very important factor and must be the best cleanup you have ever done with everything considered. Not everything is just a medication solution. Especially with red mites. AND the eggs thats are so hard to see WILL HATCH !!! in droves unless you get them sprayed and killed before that happens

Look in our aviaries section too
  17. Thats all very well, Renee..........BUT that only works for red mites ON the budgie. MOST red mites get OFF the budgie during the day to go off into crevices and lay zillions of eggs. Not every red mite you have will be on the budgies at one time either. You will find unless you are scrupulous to the nth degree in your stripping and cleaning regime of everything budgie, including throwing out some perching, you will still have them a month or two down the track.
  18. You misunderstand me Renee.........the specks of pepper I describe are all their eggs. You still need to strip out all cabinet fittings, perches and clean and spray all boxes and everything with A.I.L. No point treating the bird from within if you dont treat the environment
  19. Red mites, eh........well that will bump off baby chicks for sure. You are up for a massively detailed cage clean now. They look like specks of pepper and hide in every conceivable crevice........the joins of cage fronts and bars, the slots in perches, in every nestbox crevice, on the plastic on the drinkers and drinker clips. They hide in the ear canals of the bird too. A.I.L. works well for this cleanup. For the birds and all cleaning. Make sure you get them all, spray and soak everything.
  20. Could also be an internal egglaying. Catch her up, turn her over and take a decent belly photo.
