Mealworms
Sorry Charly......disagree with you totally here....and when others higher up in this topic have said they have fed them and the birds ate them too means it doesnt pay to say no categorically. Read other topics on our forum.........especially the meat protein topic If a budgie dies during the night in my aviary, by the time I get to it in the morning,,,,,,,,,they have cracked open the skull, eaten all the beak, half the head, the brain, the eyes, the tongue, most of the chest, the feet etc. Proof budgies do seek meat protein and eat it......all kinds.

?correctly Feeding? Help!
"Breeders" and most people dont feed pellets. Most breeders feed seed and extras like vegies, and additional seeds. Its people who get told by their vets to feed pellets, on the most part, that end up giving their budgies pellets. Read the topics in our food and nutrition forum on pellets and make an informed decision. I disagree with the theory that seed diets are fatty etc..............its all down to balance...........you need to feed the extras. Most vets assume people just feed seed and water and therefore promote pellets.........the fact the the pellet producers give them bonuses to promote their product also has a little to do with it.

A secret weapon to getting a dog to eat apart from chicken, chicken and chicken is often gravy syringed into the side of their mouth.

The Great Yf Symposium
So the hen above is the mother to the hen and cock I have now from you ? At the auction today when I bought the grey green spangle cock who is "split for "YF for want of a better term or not someone came up to me after and made a point of telling me the bird could not be "split for" yf. It seems it was not believed and therefore limited the interest in bidding for this nice bird. I know better, and now I am going back through this topic to teach myself some yellowface basics I should have learnt a long time ago PS this is the Rob Dunstan hen ? as ( if it is so ) I also now have its relatives thanks to our forum admin Liv.

Mid 2011 Breeding Journal
Sorry to hear about Tess, Dave. Please be heartened by the fact that our cavalier Cricket had the same condition and its treatable and not life threatening. I hope its the same in her case We have to weigh her food and put enzyme powder on it for her to be able to digest and process her nutrition...there are negatives to this condition but it isnt a death sentence.

Swbc Auction Western Australia
Some very nice birds went for low prices at todays auction. Some destined for "over east" also. I came home with about 8 birds, two of which my husband chose. I dont think there was a dearer price than around $450........so bargains definitely.

Chidel Auction
Talking about struggling on a pension. There's a pensioner in our clubs over here........deaf as a post, gotta say everything to him ten times before he gets it ....bids on birds and bids against himself and doesnt know where he's at bidding at auctions unless someone helps him, but he spends sh*tloads on birds....pensioner and all. People will and do find the money for things they really want.......even if buying that special budgie means living on weetbix for 6 months LOL

R&t's Breeding Journal
Just a little aside for you Renee I had what I thought were 4 greywing chicks currently in a nestbox...One grey greywing, One green greywing, one mauve or grey greywing and youngest ( I thought ) was a sky violet greywing........Then I noticed its markings were coming in differently. It seems I have a sky violet spangle in the nestbox. Same as you, I racked my brains to figure that one out...then it came to me..........I quickly put two eggs of a not well hen in that nest ( pulling her out of the nestbox and into a hospital cage ) ...and this chick is the result. A sky violet spangle from two very good birds, but fostered in the greywing nest.............why ? because I knew I would recognise it when it feathered up. :D LOL

Should I Clip His Other Wing?
He will need the other wing clipped so I suggest you match the already clipped side

R&t's Breeding Journal
We all do this and then scratch our heads wondering who is who. Even when we foster to a nest that we are SURE we will be able to tell which chick will be the foster, there are surprises we did not consider. You are not alone.............this happens to us all here and there.

Feather Plucking Hen Advise Needed
I agree with Dave....this action is a pre cursor to the hen attacking this chick.....remove to an icecream tub on cage floor..........dont worry about the head feathers...........new ones will grown in very quickly all on their own. Read this http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=15720&st=0&p=182883&hl=icecream%20&fromsearch=1entry182883

Surrogate Father
I would leave them in the breeder cage on the floor of the cage for about 2 wks and then into a kindie cage.
