Ripoff Pet Shops
Agree with GB .............never remove food. No need to mix seed with baby food mush either...it will just go off quicker.

Bush Budgies
Actually true bush budgies are often sold in pet shops. There are people who breed nothing but bush budgies at home and they do supply pet stores every now and then. Over here the average price for bush budgies is $30

Some vegies are okay to leave in the aviary a little longer but most fruit goes off quickly.......I do half a day for most fruit except citrus...that can stay in the aviary a day or two.....lemons and oranges and mandarins cut in half. Sweetcorn goes too fast to worry about but if left too long can go sour ( off ) . Soft food fed late afternoon and left overnight and removed. Fresh batch again later afternoon. Some fruit and vegies doesnt last long enough to be worried about. The budgies eat it fast

Some Chicks
Good thing I have houseguests right now who are budgie people too. My friend checked the birdroom while I was out and saw the Dad to these babies pinning a baby to the ground and attacking it....saved it just in time. So, he moved the chicks into a cage of their own. They are all eating bar the spangle baby and it isnt far off feeding itself either so today was a good save I reckon. Thanks Rob PS the mother has 3 eggs in her nestbox.

Best and easiest way is by crop tube and in that way its straight into the crop and no chance of aspirating. But to crop feed food or meds you need to be shown how the first time or two. A budgie being caught and held often is breathing hard at the time, and these times if you dont allow the bird to settle down anything given by beak ( especially liquids ) will be breathed or taken into the lungs ( aspirated ) ...........

Junk food for budgies..........dont waste your money anyway Do you know they are glued together with animal glues...........all they have to do is add a quarter teaspoon of honey to call it a honey seed treat

New Owners New Budgies
WHITE ceres and ceres white with blue are females. Young males have a bright pink to pinky purple cere. A proper breeder should be able to tell the difference. check this out http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=19173

How Old Are My Budgies?
Blue rings in australia are from september 2009 through to sept 2010 Red rings are 2009 black 2008 you didnt post photos so we cant see which sexes you got. Important not to breed with hens too old. Often older hens sold on have had issues and hence the reason they were sold.......depending on who you bought them from and level of trust.

New Owners New Budgies
If you used a flash taking the photo .........the cere colours will not be showing correctly ( as they are ).......................BUT if the cere have a white look that makes them female, even if the white is with blue.

I will try. My other better camera is hiding someplace and the camera I just used for some reason is doing a slow shutter speed thingy...........a settings issue

Some Chicks
Well since we moved house trying to breed the budgies has been terrible. I have had EVERYTHING go wrong. Birds that acted like they were ready to breed ended up not being, and any chicks I got previously were killed by their parents. Only now do I have a small handful of chicks...........4 fledged a few days ago..........three greywings and a foster spangle. Only other chicks I have is 6 in a nest with a single mother ( watching her carefully and supplement feeding the babies here and there to help the Mum out ). No other choice. Some of the greywing babies ( not a patch on Splats babies but they are greywings after all ) eldest second eldest and youngest and the Dad a foster spangle baby and the single mothers 6 chicks and the single mother

New Owners New Budgies
I think since its a baby you are really giving up on it too soon. Babies play and females bite. Having two budgies instead of one makes training harder. By buying two at the same time you limit the ability to train either or both. But offering it up so young and so soon is ( in my opinion ) giving up too soon as a bird owner.

What About Your Other Little Buddies ?
Posting in OLD TOPICS and start "new threads" when already covered is what "new people" do until they learn to use the search function Remember the "conversation" we had Charly ? No need for a new thread...................find the appropriate old one and add a post putting your pets which will bring it back up and other newbies may then add theirs if they are so inclined
