  1. I saved the pik and zoomed in.....looks like an iris ring to me....got a better picture ? and I should have looked closer...these guys would be dom pieds.
  2. Corect and your NOT SURE is a greywing.
  3. If Cricket is 4 weeks old she should be fully feathered by now. Did you put seed in the nestbox as per my topic about adding seed ? If so she would be eating by now. Best move would have been as Dave suggested a tub on the cage floor ( seed for bedding ) and see if dad feeds her. I would remove the mother out of sight and hearing.
  4. Very true...having more pairs breeding gives you opportunity for fostering.
  5. Wow........really fast :happy-dancing:
  6. I dont know Shannon....I have lost count. I will check all of them when I put them in the new flights in a week or so. I agree........its very attractive in a budgie :DLook what I found when I checked the nest earlier :happy-dancing: So I put it outside for safe keeping :ohmygod: Another egg. I removed the two eldest babies to the kindie cage and added three of the plucked babies from another nest.
  7. Firstly remove her to a cage to rest her and stop the egglaying cycle. Remove the nest, and put her back in the aviary in a fortnight or so.
  8. This "friendship" is ongoing :happy-dancing: and some others... one of Omelette's babies doing his first moult
  9. I think the hen is immature...I dont mean by that actual age but she is too silly right now to be breeding her. I personally would retire her for 6 months and try again later.
  10. The first lot are good, so fingers crossed for these guys :happy-dancing:
  11. Doesnt NUBBLY suit her ?? :happy-dancing:
  12. Yeah :happy-dancing: Poor little blighters..................could have been worse I guess...they could be dead. Happy to report they are fed in their new foster nests and the angry red skin is settling a little. Is there anything you can put on the raw skin to help soothe and help recover? :ohmygod: Most things have a smell to them and make the bedding and seeds stick to them.
  13. We are a budgie forum ...............its OFF TOPIC for quails...some members have posted that they have other birds in the off topic area. They may be able to help.
  14. Give her a couple more drops before bedtime, make sure the warm lamp is right by her, and she can sit on a perch ( low perch is fine ). Warmth and calcium should help her pass the egg. If she is worse in the morning take her to the vet.
  15. Yeah :happy-dancing: Poor little blighters..................could have been worse I guess...they could be dead. Happy to report they are fed in their new foster nests and the angry red skin is settling a little.
  16. AHA..........then he also seems to be greywing spangle as well :happy-dancing:
  17. Do a phone around and race off and get your calcivet. Ask about the avical and see if it is glucose based anbd vit D3 as well. This is important...you havent time to talk quails.
  18. Another plucking disaster !!! Different hen different nest...between last night and this morning the hen savagely plucked all five babies. Would have called her a perfect hen before this as she was so good !! But not now. I put two chicks in a foster nest and the other three in another foster nest.
  19. Good..be careful giving her the calcivet in case she breathes it into her lungs.
  20. You can candle eggs at age 5-6 days old. She is better without him if she is struggling. Put seed on the floor around her so she can pick at it. Calcivet is a MUST HAVE when you start out breeding, especially since you knew you were breeding an older hen who likely would have issues. If you cannot get some calcivet into her along with the warmth she most likely needs the vet. If she has been struggling for a day or so she will need the vet. Action is urgent when hens become eggbound. CALCIVET is available from most good bird supply stores.
  21. Good move putting her into a hospital cage with warmth ? got any calcivet ? If so get a few drops into her as well. Take him out. If the eggs have been incubated and are now cold they may well be no good anyway. You can try warming them in your hands and adding them to another nestbox. Candled them yet to see if fertile ?
  22. She's a lovely bird and one nubbly was thinking of keeping for herself. Others on the day certainly didnt want to see her leave W.A. thats for sure Glossy fluffy feather, great bodyweight, flowing feathers out over her leggies, frontal rise and a great length of mask. A beauty like this deserves a name. PS Liv forgot to mention she got 12th in the Nationals.
  23. Excellent buy for $20 and with your VISION you have the best indoor cage around.
  24. Blue on a cere means nothing if the cere has white on it............Female.
