Yeah, Matt......where are you ?? Posted and ran- Spangle Sky Blue Cinnamon Hen X Spangle Sky Blue/cinnamon
Lovely Great feather on them all. The DF looks female to me. I wouldnt be too quick to be rid of her if I was you- Budgie Eggs
The saying YOU NEVER COUNT YOUR CHICKENS UNTIL THEY ARE HATCHED rings in my ears. Thats why I dont go to the trouble and fuss of writing on eggs. If I write on the card the date they are laid then I have an idea of hatch dates anyway. I do however, throw out any clear eggs where possible halfway through full incubation period after candling. Did I say THROW OUT ??!! No, I dont throw them out....I give them to my dogs shell and all. They love them Thats another saying of my mothers that I remember WASTE NOT, WANT NOT- My New Breeding Season
Another one hatched today. That's three chicks in two days Here is the mother on her babies and her babies 7 eggs and five showing fertile Four babies hatched now, one egg to go.- Greywing To Dilute Pairing
All six eggs fertile. First chick hatched a few days back...too early and died. Second chick hatched today and looks fine. Four more eggs to go. Mother let this one die too. She has had a habit in the past of laying eggs and having chicks and sitting back and watching them. She is doing it again. I will transfer any other chicks to another nest....- My Aviary....start To Finish
Finally started making the corner cabinets for the birdroom. Motivated highly by the urgency of many birds pairing up in the aviary and wanting to make babies. I have a huge workload on right now ( leadlights ) but have to try and fit some things in between jobs. Stage one of the corner cabinets........... Made a kind of L shaped cabinet but cut across the corner diagonally so it fits a cage front better. Measurement is along longest back section 1m and the other way is around 580mm. Each side where they join the rows of modular cabinets is 450mm depth. Height of whole unit is 1800mm or 6 ft. To the right in these photos you will see holes cut out........that will be the entrances to the nestboxes which will be located on the right. Then all the other vertical units will butt up against this corner cabinet once its finished. Yet to do is the cage fronts, another perch in each cabinet, and adding the modular unit to the right for the nesting boxes. Once I have this corner cabinet finished and the one that goes on the right side of the romom as well, all my cabinets will be complete in the birdroom. Making a total of 40 cabinets. There may be two vertical units ( 8 cages ) in the middle of the room as well. I will decide on that later on.- Singles Thread
and he's pretty cute as well I lucked out with Ken too. He is a YES MAN and he also is my support. He isnt into the budgies as much as I am but pretends to be interested some of the time and is interested some of the time. He allows me free reign. He doesnt do the woodwork part of things...I do, but he will assist. We are told many times by other by other breeders that the best breeders are when a partnership works together.- Greywings?
Breeding splits to splits usually gives you 25% normals. 50% normals split for greywing and 25% greywings- Greywings?
Greywing isnt sex linked. It is recessive and both parents would have to be split for it - Greywing To Dilute Pairing

Kaz I just did my first crop feed, and although It felt a bit clumsy I got the spark into his crop  I only gave him 1ml is this enough and how often should I give it to him? I'm going to give him your mix next in about an hours time, how much should I give him and how watery should it be? Heaps of questions I know, but I really what do to try my best for this bird. Cheers, Geoff Yoghurt consistency for my special recipe crop feed. Not too runny or they regurgitate it up. About 4 CC's on a syringe. I would do this early morning and nightime till you see signs of him getting better or eating for himself.- Struggling Baby Budgie
Good news - Struggling Baby Budgie
The Mums spend less time in the box once chicks begin to feather up and also when they can keep each other warm. Have you tried removing the older chick at feeding times so the younger one gets fed ? Also by what you are saying about the younger chick its weak and may be past that point of saving. If its body temperature feels cold, it is likely dying too. Check the chick and get back to us. Photos ? PS How old is the mother ?- Struggling Baby Budgie
Is the chick sick or just hasnt enough food in its crop ?- Singles Thread
When I met my "now" husband Ken While we were dating, he had an aviary with a couple of Eastern rosellas in it. he sold the babies and he sold the parents and he tried to sell the aviary. When it didnt sell and after hearing me say I liked budgies, he said........'GO ON THEN, FILL IT FULL OF BUDGIES"!! That was the beginning of me and budgies. The aviary was right next to the swimming pool and I would spend many a hot day in the pool just staring at the budgies a few feet away. When we moved to the house we are in now we had 17 budgies and now I have around 400. Ken started all this - Food For Chicks
I use it in my soft food as above. I also use it in finger drawers for parents feeding chicks ( dry powder ) and served dry to babies in the kindie cage too. No cooking necessary. Thank you, just checking. (Raw egg-salmonella-food poisoning). Raw egg does not in most cases create salmonella poisoning...........its one of those scary stories people tell. Anyway the powdered egg isnt raw egg.- Food For Chicks

Looking good Liv Exciting isnt it ?- Splats Df White Spangle Cock Breeding
He has started his moult now too- Budgie Eggs
I dont write on eggs. I prefer not to handle eggs and all I do is write the date it was laid on the card. Also, many an egg has been cracked or broken handling it more than necessary or trying to write on it.- Next Brisbane Auctions?
Can you crop feed ? If so I would give him a crop feed with handrearing food in it, some powdered whole egg, some whey protein powder and some triple C. Works every time for me here. That little recipe crop fed has made many a bird turn the corner when things were grim.- My New Breeding Season
At least all matings werent on the floor. The cockbird is borrowed from forum member and staff member Libby as he wasnt getting any girls at her place and she wanted him to have a show budgie type gal for a mate. He's been here for awhile....was in quarantine and then moulting in the aviary. this was his first chance to breed since he has been here. Looks like he was very keen. - Singles Thread
