More Scaley Face
I also have mixed feelings about buying scalyface, dodgy or injured birds. Yes you " saved them" so they could be treated. BUT petshops pretty soon figure out they have buyers for all their birds no matter what.........people who dont know or recognise ill birds buy them anyway. People who do know there is an issue and buy them and treat them. People who feel sorry for the lame, crippled, scalyface, or malformed birds and buy them thinking they are doing them a favour. Not criticising what you did as I totally understand what you did, BUT saying.............pethops learn they will sell all the birds they buy in to one person or another for differing reasons. There then is no reason they should say no to the crappy birds being offered to them for sale and the standards of the shop and the people they choose to buy off becomes very very low. They then buy off the birdmill type breeder who breeds en masse, with not thought to health or condition of birds, whether the birds breeding are of age or not, related or not etc. I have seen some of these breeders that breed solely for a few bucks from a petshop. They dont care and once a petshop begins to take anything crappy offered to them the petshop then doesnt care. Why do you think he wouldnt give them to you for free ?? Aside from the fact that he had paid something for them ( lucky to be $10 each ) he did know there was something wrong with them and also he did know he would sell them to someone who felt sorry for those birds. He absolutely knew from his experience that even those ugly afflicted birds with various complaints still sell. In a way, its better to walk away from places like that and never return and let others know of your complaints about such places. Let your feet make your choices not your heart. Saving or rescuing birds should be for a better place and not be a "pay money over at a petshop kind of thing" . It becomes a sale when all said and done. At the end of the day you went home with second rate unhealthy birds and he went home with the money in his pocket.........and he still made a profit off you.

Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
Greywing to greywing pairing wont get you far for long. You need to pair to good normals to get better splits and then put them back to the greywings.
-
Big Blue ( Aka Kd ) And Spice
Three good hens and all normals..............must be an omen to use them in my greywing breeding for some good splits.

Female Feeding Male?
Yes they should have. If in doubt take out the budgie in question and put him in a cage with white paper under the perch and monitor droppings and eating.

What Might The Results Be?
Beautiful !!!

Aviary Vs. Indoor
I agree with Dave

Budgie Sounds Seed Stuck After Eating Only
Birds rarely get food stuck or caught. The advice about canker would be valid if there was more to go on that the "symptoms" mentioned. I would prefer to view a piece of video on what you are describing FIRST before either dismissing it as nothing or diagnosing an illness.

More Scaley Face
I dont think you should use superglue or anything like that. Ivermectin for sure and if the beak is also badly damaged or split all the way through it may cost you a vet visit too.

What Do You Guys Think?
This isnt about YOU. It isnt PERSONAL either. Everyone has an opinion and sometimes more experienced people have their say it most likely will contradict someone else's opinion. Noone says the opposite of what YOU say just to be different or difficult. You need a thicker skin and not let it bother you that someone has a differing opinion to yours. Like I said.......it isnt personal.

What Do You Guys Think?
When you have a photo only of a budgies HEAD it makes Identifying it very hard

Number Of Eggs?
Cage size and amount of food ? NO. I dont think so. I think each hen just seems to know what she can manage or not. My best hen used to lay dozen egg clutches and more or less that amount for a long time. The least eggs I have ever had in any clutch was 4-5 out of any of my birds. Some hens laid as many as 8-10 as well. It varies. It cant be cage size or food, as I have same large aviaries they are taken from and same food situation ..............even when they were in holding cages and a smaller flight before the aviaries were finished it stayed the same. I truly think its a feeling the hen has about her own clutch and egglaying. Omelette was exceptional. Her breeder has never had any related to her that laid that many eggs FERTILITY however is genetic.

Paralysed Feet ? Never Experienced This Before
No I dont have a retirement aviary. Some of my retirement budgies are okay in the main flights, but he wont be so he can stay in the breeding room. Maybe I will try him out in the kindie cage and see if he goes okay in there.

Paralysed Feet ? Never Experienced This Before
He seems happy enough for now. I have many retirement budgies in my aviaries. They deserve to live out their lives somewhere.

Paralysed Feet ? Never Experienced This Before
Just because I am a breeder for show budgies does not mean I would euthenase him the second he outlived his usefulness to me as a breeder. In fact I never got to use him at all and he cost me over $400. The fact I sought vet care indicates what he means to me...and thats not just about dollar value. I just need to say that ........when you asked about what I would do with him...............were you thinking I would euthenase him ?

Kindie Cage Babies
I only have a warm lamp on for babies newly fledged and newly into kindie cage. As long as any look fluffed up or not eating well enough yet, they have the lamp on one end of the cage. Any that need it go to the warmth. Its hasnt been on the kindie cage for over a week now. It was on before as two new babies went into the kindie cage. Also, having a lamp on the kindie cage at night encourages them to eat more through the night. Gets cold in the breeding room at night lately too.
