  1. Birds do have emotions but not like the ones that we think. Going to the vet, being handled and having your wings clipped is stressful. Right now your bird is under stress and he just needs to readjust to his enviroment, and the feeling of his wings. If you get your hair cut you feel different right well a bird does too but he can't understand why so he just get quiet and stressed. Unlike humans birds do not have the understanding of hating or getting mad as we do. They live in the now and right now he feels different. He will come around, leave him be and chill and within a couple days Zeke will be back to his normal self. As long as you start to see him eat and drink that is good. The first time he tries his new wings he may stress out too especially if he is used to flying so make sure you have him in a small area that is carpeted so he doesn't get hurt.
  2. Birds don't really show submissiveness like a dog would your hen is sick. First and foremost, I noticed you did not do a full 30 day quarantine when you first got your hen that should always be done before you bring any new birds into your flock. I advise you get your hen to an avian vet ASAP so he can diagnosis her properly and help her I can imagine she is probably suffering and that is not humane. Keep her seperated from the flock in a hospital cage. I am sure you will receive more advise too. I will move this to the health section of the forum.

  7. None of us are qualified to diagnosis your budgie over the internet first and foremost we are not avian (vets) so when you feel your budgie is sick please do take him to your avian vet to be diagnosed and treated correctly.

    great picture Kaz
  9. fingers crossed everything will heal up with no complications.
  10. Glad Len is still hanging in there. I wouldn't change his diet at all until he is eating consistently on his own it is hard enough to get a budgie to eat when sick let a lone changing their diet which puts more stress on them that is just my opinion. I continue to pray that Len pulls through. Oh, can you tell us how they know it is liver disease? Thanks

A well balanced diet is all you can ask for in budgies you are doing a great job. I live in the US too so pellets are advised as the main course of food vs seeds. I know there is an article here on the site that talks about the pros and cons of seeds vs pellets you can read. Continue to do what you are doing it is working for you :hooray: and they are doing well. I would add some good quality seed though into the diet it is good for them to continue to husk seeds and there is benefits to seed as well as there are to pellets. You already have them on a good quality pellet that is what my avian vet recommended too. As for the feathers and size of the bird that is probably due to breeding and genetics. There are 2 types of budgies there is the pet type which are the smaller budgies that you often see in the pet shops and then there are the show budgies or here in American they are referred to "English" budgies they are a larger variety and have longer feathers. Pet and show budgies can be combined to have 1/2 pet and 1/2 show variation too. I hope that answers your questions :hooray:.
  12. Mites, worms?....we don't find this in singular birds at least here in the US. In fact, I have never even heard of worming a bird until just a couple months back on here. I am not even sure if they do this in US.

  22. as Kaz said and stress can trigger an on set of illness too being moved from one place to the next, I hope she is okay. Keep her very warm that is key too.
  23. Congrats on your new baby, you can blow gently on the seeds too and if empty husks blow off then that is a sign that he is eating, please read over our food and nutrition section this is also an ideal time to introduce veggies, fruits and a variety of foods once he is eating his seed well.
