  8. Yes she is growing up when a hen's cere starts to turn brown it means that they are going in to breeding condition (kind of like a dog in season) it doesn't mean she needs to breed but this is a time where they will get bossy, cranky and start looking for places to nest. Provide her wth more stimulation like letting her out more of her cage for fun, change the cage around and give her different things to chew and play with if you provide extra stimulation you can help her through this stage. As she comes out of condition her cere will start to turn a light brown or a very pale blue.
  9. they are all so super cute, I would pick a favorite but I just can't

Welcome If you go to the FAQ on top of the site, and click on them and then go to the Welcome Center it will give you instructions on how to load pictures on your posts it is very simple. We also have a great read on How to Tame Your Budgie and more articles in our FAQ sections to learn more about how to care for your budgie. Glad to have you here and look forward to updated and pics.
  13. We are not avian vets here so here is the BEST thing you can do for her before she gets sicker, take her to an avian vet, they should do a gram culture and a poop smear to check for any germs that could be causing infection or anything else. Also have you noticed if she has lost weight and is her keel bone sticking out? Another thing, birds that are quiet, tired looking for long periods of time are sick, birds don't act lonely, they don't act depressed it is not in their nature when they change personality like this drastically they are sick. Birds can go down quickly it is not like us we get sick and get over it they do need immediate medical care. Please keep us update. For now...also keep her very warm, either in a room where you can keep it 70F- 75F degrees or we have a post on how to make a hospital cage, warmth DOES and HELPS pulls them through sickness along with correct medical attention.
  14. I would try it and see if you can use the same training system as they recommend for other types of birds, it may take longer but you won't know unless you try some budgies I am sure are more willing then others. If rabbits can be potty trained and they seem to poop with every hop lol (at least mine did) I can't see why you can't try and see if a budgie can. The key is for them to understand when they have to go and when they feel that need to get them where you want them. You will really have to observe their behavior and watch when you see him going the most.

  16. Linda, got me thinking it has been a while since we had an Off Topic Contest so I thought that since we all seem to have more then 1 pet let's have a contest for the reminder of May called "All Others" BUT Budgies. RULES: 1. submit ONE photo that you have taken of any of your pets such as lizards, cats, dogs, horses, parrots but budgies, fish etc.... 2. Make sure the photo is NOT a link and no larger then 480x640 3. All photos will show up here in the post BUT we ask no comments just photos, all comments will be deleted we want to keep everything organized. 4. The contest will end on May 31st, American Eastern Standard Time, that means for those in AU that gives you almost a whole extra day depending on where you live. Then, I will put up the pictures in a poll for voting by our membership. If you have questions please PM me.

    She is beautiful

beautiful birds, a wide array of colors.
  19. I would remove the mirror it has been written in many books that mirrors are not good for budgies because they see their reflection as another budgie and when you find seed caked on the mirror it is because he/she is feeding the mirror, once they believe it is their mate they can get very bitey, defensive to others. This may have not happened to you but it can and most likely will. From what I am reading she is going probably to the water so she can feed the mirror and how cute it all is it can get obsessive. So take out the mirror is my opinion and if you let her out for playtime out of her cage you can use the mirror only outside of the cage for just temporary play.
  20. To answer your question about how to get a fallow click here http://www.budgieplace.com/c_fallow.html I would explain it but it is well explained here.
