I agree there with Robin if you need to find an avian vet here is the link http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...=138&artlang=en
  2. they are looking good can't wait until they feather up even more
  3. They are gorgeous Nerwen, it is great to see your birds again. I love your rainbow of color and mutations.
  4. I forgot the dominant pied it was late last night sorry about that 50% dominant pied 50% norma I thought her marking where light because of the spangle gene if she is a greywing she would be a fullbody because her body coloring looks bright. Hope Ken's dad is okay today and look forward to pics when you have a chance.
  5. Doesn't that put your existing bird at risk and breeding so soon if they do bring out any unknown illness in the new bird? I know to each their own doesn't seem like a very good way to quarantine. We give advice to quarantine for 30 days and then this advice is given Feathers they are very cute, like the last picture of her peeking.
  6. Oh interesting, I know it is very difficult to find exhibition birds there is only 1 shop that sells them here that is not a large chain store. I know of know budgie breeders in my area at all. I asked the avian vet staff and they said they know of none just tiels and higher.
  7. all the babies will be bue the males will be split to opaline 50% normals, 50% spangles all will yellow faces and be type 2 Of course you have your surprises in the nest from the dad if he has any sex-linked genes he is hiding and any recessive genes that both parents may have. That is my prediction
  8. thanks for the understanding Yep your right she is not masking opaline she is beautiful girl
  9. ahh that is what I meant I meant if she was masking opaline, too fast typing and not thinking - I knew that. If you pair her with another opaline yes you would have 100% opaline and you have done that and have gotten non-opalines? Yes then you are correct she is not making opaline . Your right...I was probably just misunderstanding. So all your babies in this clutch are opalines? And they are all hens for sure yes? (Laughing out loud)...just love the net and communation . Sorry about that.
  10. well she sounds like a character and she loves you and wants you to be somewhat involved
  11. I love the glasses part She probably comes out to see you
  12. yes she is sitting, but she will continue to go in and out until she is done
  13. Awe I love those BIG beautiful eyes, I bet the nurses LOVE him. I love the look he is giving that port skeptical but a GOOD boy. Hugs to you Shawna and your family.
  14. here in Ohio too (we are neighbors) Are you enjoying the heat PAdoula, my Merlin came from Chicago ...LONG....story . Beautiful clutches.
  15. amazing little bugger aren't they
  16. When can I expect her to actually sit the eggs and start the incubation process? Hens will start to sit usually when the 3rd egg is layed. Every hen is different. The hen will continue to come out and mate until she has decided her clutch is the right size for her. How do you know when she is finished laying her clutch.? The egg laying is finished when no more eggs show up with 2 days between each egg. by Kaz from our FAQ sectoin I hope this helps
  17. To really see if she is masking opaline wouldn't you have to pair her with an opaline male a couple times (maybe you did and I am not reading it right) because if she is paired with a non-opaline male then she would be giving her opaline gene to the male but he would be split and not visual. Beautiful clutches.

Exhibition or "english type" budgies like your Boah are larger then your pet type budgie or "american" like Bloo. In budgies males and females can vary in size and is not determined by gender like in other animals. Here is article to read Is my budgie English or American? As for quarantine, it is never too late. I would think at this point you will have more problem of them calling for each other. It is one of those lessons learnt and I would at this point watch for any signs of sickness. Signs of a Healthy Budgie As for nails if you have no experience cutting nails on animals then I would take your bird to the vet for the first time so they can show you how. Here is a guide on how to Trimming and Care of Nails. If you like you can post a pics of him perching with a close up of his feet and we can let you know if he needs a trim. Always visit our FAQ Section? as there is so much information. Of course always feel free to ask
  19. Wikipedia - Explanation - Dieffenbachia I have a couple of them and yes they are not ugly in my opinion. My birds stay away from my plants so I don't have issues. But if your birds are free flying all the time or curious I would suggest a room that they are not in or out of the house. Poinsetta's are toxic not only to birds but cats too so I never brings them in.
  20. sounds like something is going on with them keep us updated
  21. Congratulations Here an article from our BBC FAQ section Handrearing Budgies Also Care of Budgies in the Nest by Kaz Most breeders will not handrear budgies they will let the parents raise them and during this time will hand them a lot (especially if this is for taming purposes). If I am right Bea took Blinks at 4 weeks when he was just starting to learn to eat on his own. Play with him, give him attention and then I believe she put him back with his parents to do the regular feedings. There is good nutrition in the parents food vs ours . Kaz has a lot of experience about handrearing and I am sure she will let you know what is best for them. In medium and bigger parrots it is actually debatable on handfed vs parentfed and handle by humans because a lot of what a bird learns on how to be a bird is from the parent not us humans. But that is a different topic all in itself. Again great job.
  22. This is actually a good FAQ question, what is the purpose of cod liver oil and wheat germ for breeding and non-breeding budgies?
