  1. Pretty died after a year of being together with Merlin. Merlin called for him but in the end which is now 2 years later he remains a single bird and he is doing fine. He is so tamed and talks it is wonderful. Would he love to have another companion I am sure he wouldn't refuse it but is he unhappy I don't believe so. He sits in his cage right by me when I am on my computer and comes out here and there when I put away my dogs and cats. Getting another bird is up to you but I advise same species if you want to house them together and same sex if you don't want any accidental breeding.
  2. I can't believe that it is already December. Once the December Budgie of the Month winner is voted for and won I will put up the votingfor "Budgie of the Year". Budgie of the Year photos are compilations of all the monthly winners. As long as the monthly winner kept their photo up and it is not a broken link they are entered. The one with the most votes will WIN "Budgie of the Year for 2009" You can enter now for January 2010 if you like . Everyone can enter monthly, starting in 2010 though there will be 1 new rule which I will add to the post that once you win a month you will not qualify to win again so it gives others a chance too . Voting will close in three days - please no comments if you have questions feel free to pm me.
  3. Put in your best entry for Budgie of the Month. Every one has until the end of each month (U.S. Time EST) to enter a picture. Members vote at the beginning of the month to chose who will be the winner. You can win only 1 time within the year so for example if you won March Budgie of the Month then your pictures can not be qualifed to win again. This prevents 1 member winning all the time and makes it fair since each and every one of us have different talents with our camera . One picture per member per month. Please remember to keep to the board rules of maximum, pictures should not exceed 480x640 AND links will not be accepted ONLY images. If this is not met then you picture will not be accepted (notification of non acceptance is not guaranteed). Any post you make to this thread will not show up so please do not repost. Do not post questions on this thread if you have a question you can either PM me or post in the Competition Area, thank you. Good luck to all that enter. Winners are recognized for the whole month and a Budgie of the Month Picture (example below) is is added to their signature line and it is removed after the month is over and is added to the next winners signature line. Click HERE to see all the different emblems that are used. They have been created by our own BBC members and we appreciate their help. created by mysixbabies Also note that all monthly winning pictures will be automatically added to the Budgie of the Year fpr 2010. To check out "2008 Budgie of the Year" CLICK HERE and feel free to congratulate them. Budgie of the Year 2009 will be decided after December Budgie of the Month is Voted in. Important Information: if you are the Budgie of the Month and are entered in the Budgie of the Year your original photo most stay up and not be moved, deleted, or link broken, this is the only way we can verifiy that that photo was the winner, if you decide to move, delete the photo your photo is disqualified from the Budgie of the Year Competition. Interested in our Monthly 2009 Winners? CLICK HERE and feel free to look, this is a readme only post, to congratulate the winner feel free to click on the CLICK HERE to Congratulate Link in this thread under the photo. Read here on how to post pictures within guide regulation Photo Regulations/How to Post TIPS on taking good pictures that WIN Make sure you have good lighting, the best is in the daylight without a flash Try and take your budgie's picture without the bar cages, many camera's will let you zoom in and you can put the lense between the space If it is a close-up use your macro setting (symbolized on some camera's by a flower) and then press the shutter button 1/2 way and let it focus If the picture is blurry check your setting and try again Make sure you resize your pictures to message board size (640x480) too small of pictures are hard to see

Fingers crossed he rebounds and is healthy this time for good
  5. Can you get a better picture of the 1st bird? The front and the back in natural light but enough were we can see the coloration. All I can see is that he is a spangle. The 2nd bird is a Cobalt Recessive Pied and they will have plum eyes for their entire lives, a pink cere (if a cock) and the iris rings will not be visible. You can read more about this mutation in our FAQ section under mutations.

Questions: How long have you had him? Has the biting just started? Is it hard and the bird strikes out or flirty where he is dancing around? Are you opposed to wing clipping for training purposes? Flight feathers will grow back within a couple months. What have you done to gain your birds trust? feeding food, sitting by the cage etc.... How old is your bird?

  10. can you please post a picture of your bird, thank you. Make sure it is in good lighting (natural preferably) so we can see what you are talking about.

Congrats Renee, what a wonderful accomplishment
  12. A hens cere will be a pale blue with white nasal rings and if it is older bird she would have had a cere change where it will go to a crusty brown look, I am going to assume if the bird in question is a very bright blue and never had a cere change that it most likely is a male.
  13. they could have been going through a molt the feathers that replace the older feathers will still have a sheath on them and then that comes off showing off a more softer feather. It is very comman for the same sex budgies to bond like your females have and they don't need to be related at all.
  14. It is probably because you are still in the study with him but he is covered so he can't see you. Merlin will do that if hei s covered and I am by my computer, he is looking for a way to see you. I would assume he stops it after you leave completely.

A lot of attention and warmth will bring a bird back and of course love. Everyone says it is just a bird but you proved otherwise. I am glad he is well. Yes always keep an eye on him especially during the molting or cold spells this is when they can get sick quickly.
  19. Do you have a picture of his cere so we can look at it to make sure it may not be anything else (we may or may not know more from a picture).
