Eyes
The recessive pied affects the eyes, buty I would say that the clearflight pied wouldnot haver any effect on the eyes. So in a DEC they have no iris rings. However I have a feeling that Dom pied gene affects the eyes, due to DF dom pieds having mismatching eyes.

Lacewings?
You are right bea. Howcome, then, can lacewings produce both Ino's and cinnamon babies, when they are both on the same gene. Very silly.

Help! In Desperate Need Of Assistance
Was there an obvious nest box that he came out of? If so you should put him back in, but keep an eye on him just incase you got the wrong nestbox or the mother doesn't want him anymore and attacks. Although if you get the right nest box he should be fine and the mother is most lkikely to take him back. In regards to hand feeding him, you should buy some handraising formula from the petshop and follow its instructions. Does he have pin feathers yet? If not he is under two weeks. For a newly hatched chick you should feed it every 3 hours. I would feed him and then check on him three hours later to see how his crop is. If it is empty or nearly empty , feed him and remember how long it takes in between each feed. Do not over feed him though as he can get sour crop. But that generally only happens if you just keep topping him up. Wait til he is empty or almost empty before feeding him and filling his crop. Feed him as much as he wants. It hope that helps. Some people with more experience with handraising babies should be on soon. :ausb:

Rust
That thingee isn't part of the cage. It is a little bridge that you can connect to and pull off the cage. As can be seen in this picture: I have just been doing a bit of research on metal poisoning. Apparently the zinc in galvanized wire has white rust. This is poisonous. Now I know that iron oxide (rust of iron) is red in colour. Iron oxide has varying levels of toxicity and according to this website ingestion is not dangerous: ...to humans http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:zC0SKZ...clnk&cd=1&gl=nz However because it is galvanised it has other metals that are in the corrosion too. I just did some research on heavy metal poisoning in birds. Apparently avairy wire mesh can be quite toxic.

My First Show Budgie Babies.......... Arrivals
That's really sad to hear Karen. It's no fair. I'm thinking that because of the calcium deficiency and rickets, that when the baby fell, it probably broke a bone in a vital place. Breeding budgies is full of heartloss.

Budgie Hates Us
All budgies can be tamed, no matter what age you start them at. I would go to eterri's site. www.budgietalk.com for some really great taming tips.

Is My Budgie Crazy?
Sometimes new budgies, have what is called the houdini stage. Where they continuosly try to escape from the cage. This will pass, don't worry. Just ignore him when he does it. Re the Alexandrine. DO NOT house them in the same cage. The Alexandrine has a huge beak, that it can use to easily attack and decapitate a budgie. You can however let them have free flying time together, but only under supervision.

Yay Saffy's Fostered Egg Hatched!
Sad news unfortunately. The little baby was taking food so well. I was feeding him every three hours. And I set the alarm clock to wake me up every 3 hours. Then at 6 am when I went to feed him, I opened up the nest box and found him at the other end away from the other babies. I picked him up and he was cold. I was sure he was dead. Anyway I took him out and looked at him, then his mouth started moving! I couldn't believe it. The baby was still alive and it was stone cold. So I breathed on him to make him warm. It warmed him up. He was so cold though that my breath created condensation on his skin. Any way as soon as he was warm, I put him under the other chickies as I went and prepared his dinner, making sure it was nice and warm. I managed to feed him okay. But soon his breathing became quite laboured and I noticed that his sternum was sticking out. In that space of 3 hours he had used up all his reserves to try and keep warm that when I came back he had almost no muscle left. Then He started to throw his little head back and stretched out. And I watched him take his final breath. He passed away in my hands. I was so sad and annoyed. Because if he hadn't been kicked out of the warmth, by whoever, his mum, or the other chicks he would still be alive. Poor little fella. Rest in peace :angel1:

Rust
I don't know. I have had it there for a whole year. It used to be inside the cage too and some of the budgies would sleep on it. And before that my mice used to live with it and I have never had any sicknesses or illness.

Yay Saffy's Fostered Egg Hatched!
Another one hatched today. Same scenario. It is still alive. I have to feed it again in 2 hours. I'm feeding it warm milk for now. That I mix up from dried stuff, so that it is thick, but thin enough for the baby to drink it.

Blink, Oz, Cook And Bails
Cute as always Bea. I especially like the first picture of Ozzie. I love how Blinkie has little dots of violet every now and then. Like under his wings. Very pretty. Could you get some flight shots of the teils?????

Budgie Gender - How To Tell.
I think that is a great idea. This is a baby girl 6 weeks old: See how she has white around her nares. This is a baby boy at 6 weeks old: See how he is pink all over and has very little white at all (excuse the red dot on his cere, he banged into a window) This is Isis a female out of breeding condition: See how on the outside of her cere it is kind of bluey white and tan in the centre. The blue on females is never as intense as that on males, which you can see below. This is her in breeding condition: Notice how her cere is also very crumbly and wrinky. This is Arkady (male) at 10 weeks old: This is Arkady at about 14 weeks old, when his cere is starting to change colour: This is his adult cere at 15 months: This is Izzy another adult male: Note: Male's ceres are always smooth: Note on Inos and recessive pieds. The male's cere looks like Arkady's at 10 and 14 weeks and the little 6 week old boy's cere, for their entire life. It doesn't turn blue. Female's ceres look the same as other females. I hope that helps
