  1. hehe neither do I, ...well about sports stars anyway.
  2. Moulting does take a lot out of birds as they have to put more energy into producing feathers and thus will resource it from their weight or by eating more. Do keep an eye on him though and if anything looks out of the ordinary take him to the vet. Perhaps you could feed him a little extra egg and biscuit soft food and some pellets for protein.
  3. Birds sleep at night, so you don't have to worry about singing during the night if it is dark. I would say that budgies are quieter than cockateils as they don't screech however they tend to sing and warble for a lot of the day. Boy budgies are very much fun to watcxh especially when they are doing their happy dance. 2 boys would probably be a safe bet
  4. The green gene is dominant over blue, that is why if you have one green parent you will get 50 or 100% green birds
  5. but he wouldn't grow his feathers until next moult any way. Clipping not plucking :yellowhead: Yes I'm hoping that it is just a sprain
  6. He is a little lucky thing then. How about being named after a soccer player who scored a really hard, almost miraculous goal
  7. About 6 comfortably, pushing it with 8.
  8. You can, if you do a search find instructions on how to do it. If you do decide to do it, have some cornflour with you to blot up any bleeding that may occur from cutting a blood feather.
  9. Quite an interesting story. I think you'll have to give this chick a soccer related name for starting out life as a soccer ball. :yellowhead:
  10. Well for the past month I have been wondering why Arkady hasn't been flying around so much and been gaining weight. Usually he is in good shape. And then I figured it out after seeing him flick his left wing up and hold it sometimes. Just listening to him fly, he sounds quite different to the others as if he is flapping as little as possible so as not to use his wing. So I took him out and palpated both his wings and I found that when I palpated his left wrist he squarked and was not happy. So I have taken him out of the big cage and put him and Isis (for company) in my little hospital cage and have put him on cage rest. Until after exams when I shall take him to the vet. He seems to be quite happy now that he is not being bullied by the others (cause he is less bulshy than usual with a sore wing) I was wondering though, whether it would be a good idea to perhaps clip his wings to further prevent him from using them so that his wings could have a better chance at healing and thus I could also rebond with him (the babies, well they are almost a year old now, take up most of my time hehe, little brats). However I have never clipped his wings before. But if it's what helps him and is for the best, then I shall do it, cause he still flies to get from A to B but after flying he holds his wing. What are your thoughts? Ps. I know how to clip wings that is not what I'm worried about, I would just like to know your opinions before I decide to do it.
  11. Bah is a cobalt, look at his tummy and you can see him in the 4th picture that was posted of him front on too.
  12. Its not a bad cage, even obne half that size is good for one or two budgie, she just now has extra height to have extra places to put toys, yay. The doors are a great size an the black colour is good as it makes it easier to see her. You should get some gum branches and stuff in there for her, she'd like that.
  13. Might be a boy. But I don't completely agree with the sexing of the bald green bird. It has a lot of brown crusting over its cere, be this scaley face or not, it is very confusing. If you expand the picture to full size you will see what I mean. I'm not sure what sex it is but I would be more inclined to say female, but I thought I would just point that out. It has a fairly "masculine" look though
  14. Hmm, I think some natural branches would look cool too.
  15. I would say, if you want to sell them, then sell them from your home rather than a petshop as that way you can screen your buyers and you will get more money back for your birds

They might have to be shown how to use the cuttle bone, by another budgie.
  18. I have discussed it with my avian vet and he says that the red rust is not the rust to look out for, it is the white rust that you should worry about. Cause he was commenting on my cage. I also researched ironoxide last time over the internet and couldn't find anything on it that suggested it was toxic
  19. Quarantine usually lasts for 90 days although 30 days is the length of time that most members here use. It requires putting the new bird in a separate cage from all the other budgies preferably in a separate room for this length of time. This allows you to observe the new bird for any signs of potential disease that can ofen be brought out by stress or moving to a new home. It also allows you to bond with your new bird and tame it.
  20. Iron oxide is not considered poisonous to birds, it is the white rust of zinc oxide that you need to watch out for. You can coat the rust with a little olive oil to prevent it rusting further. The budgies do like the taste of it tho. I think if you paint it on and then wip off the excess you'll be fine. That is what i have done.
  21. My newest baby, does it just for fun. He'll often zoom around the room, then land on the cage and hold on for his dear life, while still flapping madly away. he loves it.
  22. Actually I would say they are both girls. The blue is definitely a girl. The yellowface is blurry, but I would say girl.
  23. Don't chuck them out just yet. My Saffy abandoned her second clutch after she had been incubating them for a good week. left them for three days and theyw ere stone cold. i put them under another budgie and all 4 that were fertile hatched. Unfortunately 2 dyed because the foster mother couldn't feed more than 5 babies and she already had 2 of her own and another fostered babies. But the two that did hatch and survived are Alo and Kito. So candle them and give them another chance.
  24. Hi and welcome to the forums :bluebudgie:
  25. What a lovely avairy, I'm jealous. I love how you've put the perches in coming up out of the ground, it sorta llooks like a jungle like that. I think you should get a golden pheasant for the aviary too, they are lovely.
