Wet Perches.

Just Interested....
The temperature-sex thing, wouldn't be due to the heat the eggs are at during incubation, but before fertilisation, because heat doesn't change your chromosomes. This is true in mammals too. Male sperm prefer cooler temperatures to survive, whereas female sperm are more tolerable of heat. So in hotter months, more females are likely to be created as more male sperm would be destroyed or weakened by the heat and thus a female sperm is a little more likely to reach the egg than a male sperm. The same goes for cooler weather but in the opposite direction. This method, is one that is used by humans too. Potential fathers who want a boy, will wear shorts and no underpants, to keep it cool down there.

Identifying Chicks In The Nest
The two middle tail feathers of spangles will be white or yellow rather than black or blue So you can see that in the pin feathers

Spoons For Toys?
Well spoons are used for humans to eat from, so they should be safe. Just not knives or forks. (Laughing out loud).

Blinky Just Sits .. Doesn't Play Etc
Hi. Perhaps you could post some pictures of her so we can see if she really was indeed a 12 week old budgie when you bought her as young budgies are easier to tame.

Rspca Called On Me!
Perhaps you should put in a complaint about the RSPCA, saying that they unnessecarily overstressed your birds etcetc

Budgie Colour Help!
Yep if you breed him to another DF dom pied then you will egt the same looking babies. If you breed him to a SF dom pied thn half will look like him and half will have a slightly different pied look to them ( the look of a SF dom pied). If you breed him to a normal budgie, then all his babies will be SF dom pieds which will look slightly different.

Hurt Budgie In Pet Shop
We are only supposed to have 3 registered avian vets in New zealand, but at the vet teaching hospital there are 3 all together and none of these are included in the list. So what I'm saying is don't trust the list.

Rspca Called On Me!
Goodness, me. Sometimes the RSPCA really annoys me. I mean they mean well. But half the time the staff don't actually know anything about the proper care of pets. For instance if you have an old animal that is skinny because it was old, they would say you are neglecting it. We have a neighbour who calls out the SPCA on any stupid little things. Once they called because our sheep were lying down too much!!! How stupid is that. Another time they called out the SPCA because "our dog was barking" too much. It was actually the other neighbour's dog that was barking heaps grrr. We don't know for sure who it is calling them, but we have our suspicions. Walked past their property to see that they had hardly any grazing for their cattle!!! Call the SPCA out on them some time and get them back for it. Only thing is the SPCA have to follow up on every claim they've heard. Don't worry, you are a good budgie owner. People who assume that they know the best care possible really bug me and they never take the effort to actually go and investigate first before passing judgement. I suggest you approach this woman and talk to her.

Ant Problem
Maybe you could try pouring boiling water down their holes, that should kill them instantly.

Breeding Budgies...some Of The Disappointments
Oh no Kaz that's horrible. It really makes you wonder how killing your own babies to make way for more, really fits into the scheme of survival of the fittest . It's sad when you get your hopes up and they are suddenly dashed like that. Norm, I'm really sorry to hear about your father, but that is great news about your first granddaughter

Clearflight Pied?

Rescue Bird Needed A Home
okay 1. You can not do much about it if she freaks out when you feed her. She needs food and water, so you can't prevent that, so don't worry about it. 2. Perhaps you could put a bit of rescue remedy in her water. Some members on here have suggested it, I personally haven't tried it yet. 3. Perhaps you should clip her wings, this would prevent her breaking more of her feathers and flying about in mad panic <--err on caution here though. I think it would be a good idea, others may disagree. It would be best to consider both sides of the argument for this one and form your own opinion.

Tired Hen?
Aww what sweeties. Yup brocoli is great stuff. I don't feed corn on the cob, but others here do. Raspberry cordial is a health benefit for all Your nest looks very good there.

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...
Yep that sounds good Sounds like a little chickee in side that one. Sometimes eggs can take upto 25 days to hatch, depends on the temperture and how tightly mum sat on them.

I Don't Know What To Do
Perhaps put her in a room where there is a lot of human traffic. Just have limited in cage interaction with her for now i.e. changing water, food and paper. Interact with her from across the room, talk to her constantly. Try that and see how it goes. Make sure all your interactions with her are positive eg "millet miraculously appears in the cage after that big scary monster tried to eat me, hey maybe this ain't so bad afterall" The boys might just have too move!!! Good luck and let us know how it goes
