  1. Looks like some sort or crow?
  2. You forgot the "and fart whenever she wanted" part. lol
  3. Might be time to lay down some toddler law. Talk to the girl then. Teach her. Hopefully that will help.
  4. But the budgie breeding is your hobbie and how you relax
  5. Oh that's okay then. Slap on wrist retracted.
  6. Seed bells are great for holidays as you don't have to worry about husks. The little water containers that poke through the bars of the cage are good as they have a smaller surface area so are harder to poop in. I also double attach them with wire so they are less likely to fall off. I've left my budgies for a week before. I always overstuff the cage with seedbells, almost one per budgie sometimes almost two, a giant bowl of seed and give them at least 2 different water sources and often 3. Making sure that at least one is attached inside the cage so if a drinker does fall off they still have water. When I came back I found they hadn't even touched the dish of seed, they had so much food.
  7. Haha, don't you love how puppies eat anything and I mean anything. Ours tried to eat the carpet!!!! And then they discovered the latest TV guide and destroyed it, leaving the old one perfectly untouched. We once had a newfoundland puppy that was locked in the bathroom (for being naughty or it was puppy room can't remember) and he ate his way through the wall, because it didn't like being locked away!
  8. No! Naughty AV. Don't put them on Broad spectrum antibiotics unless told to by the vet. Bad girl. Slap on the wrist. Not to mention resistance, but antibiotics also kills off commensal bacterias in the gut and may predispose her to gut problems if the wrong type of bacteria recolonise her gut and also make it a little harder for her to digest her food in the meantime while she waits for more bacteria to grow. Therefore making your added vitamins and goodies void or not work as well. Thus unless there is a pathogenic bacterial infection you will be doing more harm than good. I've fallen off the bed before and I'm still alive
  9. I LOVE the tail surfing picture. What is the giant seed ball?
  10. That is great news. New birds won't eat in front of you because they are scared and may not start eating for 3 or 4 days.
  11. The petshops now have your pictures up on the wall with the strict instructions of : "Do not sell birds to these people!"
  12. Hey MB, I know of a couple of... 70million possums you can have!!! I love Aussie Animal rescue, we get it over here on Sky (equivalent of Fox, in fact is exact same channels, advertises both Aussie and Kiwi times, cheapos) I want to come over to Aus for a year and work with the wildlife. NZ is sadly devoid of the little fuzzy mammal wildlifes. We aren't allowed to have pet possums here - being they pests and all. I don't think vets are even allowed to treat them apart from euthanasia. If you want a pet one you need a special permit. Not to forget they prey on birds and chicks (almost as bad as rats!). I do like ringtail possums though (we don't have them in NZ)
  13. Take the splayed baby in at the same time, because then the vet won't charge you two consult fees. And it should be cheaper. Yes he definately needs a vet. A wound that extensive can become easily infected. I'm sorry but I don't think your aunt has any right to take him off of you, if you spend too much money on him!. She does not care about him and does not deserve him. Plus you were the original owner and you had to seize him to take care of him, therefore you have more right than she does in my opinion.
  14. Yes AV I think you need to lay down the rules. This is YOUR house so that means anyone living or staying in it abide by YOUR rules. I don't know how understanding 18month olds are, but are you able to teach her to leave the birdies alone as well as locking her out of the bird rooms? Just incase father doesn't respect child barriers and what you say. Father should also be paying for the broken cage no matter how old it was. His lack of care resulted in damage of your property.
  15. That is soooooooooooo adorable. I love it. And the little babies with their cheeks puffed out waiting for a feed: my favourite budgie expression.
  16. Take him to the vet. I don't know much about wound care yet, but sometimes drying wounds out can actually worsen it. I guess because you kill the rehealing layer of skin. It looks a bit gooey, maybe infected.
  17. Libby, have you checked his teeth? (mainly his back teeth, you'll have to stick a pinky in there (risky) or get a vet to have a look with an otoscope) He could have malocclusion or overgrown molars making it harder for him to chew. This can be fixed.
  18. She doesn't sound so good to use as a final breed. But you could always go for the 1 cock to 3 hens method. But BG will have to be up to it for breeding. f you only want him in with 1 hen, I would choose a different hen. Option 2 or 4. You should probably put him with an experienced hen.
  19. My chinchilla does that too. She really freaks me out.
  20. Well I haven't heard from them. My flatmate is also a vet student in a higher year than me and managed to bump into the vet crop tubing Arkady last night while she was treating her cat. Apparently they have been trying to get hold of me. And apparently they are going to use Arkady as a teaching case. Which will be pretty cool. My little boy will be famous, well not really as they will have to change his name and my name etcetc. Apparently the vet also thinks he has arthritis too So I'm waiting on their call. Remember how he used to be 70g the fat tennisball. Well now he is a much healthier weight of 44g.
  21. That's awesome Chryso, sounds like you had heaps of fun. What is that animal in the first xray? Is it an echidna? Looks like a kiwi head on a wombat/armadillo body lol. Good to have you back.
  22. Yay. I'm almost coming up for a silver medal!!. Almost a year to the day I bought Emmett. Does Emmett making babies count?
  23. Looks like you had a fun week. The bandage prac looks awesome. We Watched a video on bandaging a little while back and the Robert Jones bandage gets huge. Almost like those plasters they put on thumbs in the old cartoons. lol. Isn't the twitch used also as a distraction so that the horse thinks about that rather than what's going up its nose? How do you get round posting pictures? Our uni sent out an email saying that we can't post pictures on the internet of people, their animals, uni staff and students without their (the people and animals in the picture's) permission.
  24. And I started off with one budgie at the age of 10. He was called Budge (imaginative I know). A sky blue normal. 2 years later Budge got a friend called Sage, a DF yellowface cobalt. No quarantine took place !!!!!!! Then when budge died at the grand old age of 5 (complete seed diet!!!!! ), we got Aqua a lovely little cobalt recessive pied male with violet shading. Then when Sage passed away we got Saffy my sweety grumpy pie who only recently passed away at age 6. Aqua sadly passed away from a heart attack which caused him to fall off the cage and then die in my hands. . Saffy was alone for awhile, but she amused herself by chewing up my movie posters. Then moved in a little baby Izzy, who was actually quarantined!!!! He would let me scratch his head and hang upsidedown from the perches. Upon moving in with Saffy, I wasn't allowed to give scratchies anymore. 2 years passed and I discovered this awesome forum!!! And my addiction began to grow! A baby Arkady moved in about 2 months after discovering the forum. The little monster was quarantined, but managed to break it and fly over to Izzy and Saffy. He became an absolute goo monster. So then I thought "Well I'm going to need a bigger cage" I didn't just get a bigger cage, I got a giant sized patio aviary in my room!!! Then I felt sorry for poor Izzy who had his girlfriend stolen by the suave Mr Arkady. So I thought why not get him a girlfriend and along came Isis. A year later and 3 clutches later I had 13 budgies!!!!! Some of the babies (1) were given away. Then when I thought my addiction was gone, along came Emmett. Emmett and Saffy decided I did not have enough budgies and decided to make more  :!!!!!!! They produced Butters who was given to my brother to accompany Cereal who was given away from the first clutch. Now I have 11 budgies. which is far too much for my bedroom and now 8 of them live outside in the patio aviary where it should be... ON THE PATIO!!!!. And 3 monsters live inside: Bacardi, Arkady and Izzy. (Izzy might end up swapped for Alo, he's very noisy!). And just the other night the thought entered my head of getting another inside budgie!!! : Hi my name is Sailorwolf and I'm a Budgieholic.
