  1. Sun Conures are very loud. Maroon bellied conures are quieter, I also think they are cuter.
  2. With the scalloped and baked potato, personally I interchange the terms. Its like jam, jelly and Jello NZ, Aus and england USA Jam = Jelly Jelly = Jello The NOT HAPPY JAN one confused me lol. I had no idea what you guys were talking about. I call pop/soda "fizzy". We have "Chilly bins", Aussie have "Eskies". I called our chilly bin an esky once just to annoy my mum. lol Oh yeah and the whole Mum/Mom thing. Every other English speaking country uses Mum instead of Mom. I watched "Summer Heights High" last night, it's hilarious!
  3. Ivermectin works by paralysing the parasites. It does not usually cause this in vertebrates because of the blood-brain barrier. If for some reason the blood brain barrier was compromised (inflammation I guess) then ivermectin can get into the brain and will cause paralysis. This happens in collie dogs as they have an inherited defect which allows Ivermectin into the brain. The paralysis isn't permanent. As long as the animal does not die from not being able to breath they should be able to metabolise the drug and clear it out of their systems. This is what happened with a collie dog was was paralysed for about 6 days (he was on ventilation to begin with I think) and then the affects slowly wore off and by about day 14 he was back to normal. Your budgie looked like he had a really bad mite problem. Poor little dude. But he should be fine.
  4. Yes. My boy lost a lot of weight aswell. He used to be obese! But before he passed away he was quite light. It sounds like a testicular or kidney tumor, just by going on how similar he sounds to my little fella. But there are many things that present similarly. I think you should bring up the possibility of tumor next time you see the vet.
  5. Yeah, I'd be worried about hens wanting to nest in it.
  6. Sailorwolf replied to **Liv**'s topic in Pest Control
What about a fake owl? Some buildings put up strands of really thin wire/nylon/string on their rooves to prevent birds from landing. You could try that. Or those mini-electric fences you can put around goldfish ponds
  7. My budgie had "watery poo" and he had a testicular tumour. Polyuria is excess urine production, which makes a budgie dropping look watery. The testis are right up next to the kidneys so they can also put pressure on the sciatic nerve.
  8. Well looks like us Kiwis share more with you Aussies than we thought. We use pretty much use most of those sayings and slangs. The Fair dinkum one though, that is definitely Aussie. I always used to laugh at it whenever I visited Aus. Now I use it, cause I like the sound, hehe. Good on ya mate, pride of the south! One thing I like though In Aus Thongs = jandals In USA Thongs = G-strings LOL!!!! Yea Elly, we use all your sayings, they are old ones Cause we get American and UK TV
  9. I just Love the name Atlas (not really an Elmo fan). He carries the world on his shoulders! and you carry him on your shoulders he he he. (ooo ooo plus the world is green and blue, and what colour his shoulders are???? Green and blue!!!!) lol You stress out about so much! bad girl, go take a lie down! I'm sure your new edition won't mind playing on you while you do.
  10. Good idea Budgie lover. Although an unattended envelope may be considered suspicious. Maybe just a letter without the envelope. Address it to them and say: "I enjoy eating at your Cafe and enjoy watching your birds in the aviary. But there is something that concerns me. The use of fencing wire is not considered suitable for perches and can lead to problems such as pododermatitis (bumblefoot). Pododermatitis can result in bacterial infections and your birds will most likely succumb to illness. I advise you use natural gum branches or at least something with a 1cm diameter or larger to prevent your birds from developing pododermatitis and to insure they have good welfare. The birds and your patrons will thank you for it. Thank you" Then maybe you could leave a pile of suitable gum branches next to the aviary and say to them in the letter that you have left gum branches there. Unfortunately you can not always take the direct approach, that was also suggested, as these birds are not our property and it is not our place to interfere with other people's pets and family, only educate and advise.
  11. Haha soo that was the other one. Whoops. :hap: Couldn't remember. What about Megatron, then if he's a girl you can call him Meg lol. I can't remember the other Transformers' names. Atlas is cool. ooo ooo what about Jupiter!! He is the king of the gods (well in Rome anyway, he is the Roman Zeus) and his planet is red!!! and big
  12. It could either be kidney or testicular. Budgie testis are right up in their abdomen next to the kidneys so you can't feel them. My budgie died from testicular tumour recently. He had terrible polyuria (lots of wee) and drank heaps. He also favoured one of his legs too. He did a bit of wing flicking as well and would sit on his perch as if he had sunk into it. All hunched over.
  13. That's good to hear Merlin is okay. :hap: I've been try to get my budgies to eat pellets. I finally did yay!!! What I did was wait for their seed to be eaten, then put pellets in and left them like that. So they were hungry enough to try the pellets. Then after about 2-3 hrs I give them their normal stuff. So hopefully this means they will get pellets every 2 days.
  14. Optimus Prime !!!! I like Kaiser ( I think it means king...well caesar any how) Caesar Orlando Maestro Leonardo Raphael Donatello (the teenage mutant ninja turtles, can't remember last dude) Cashew Pistachio Phoenix Rosco Atlanta Arizona Nevada King Leonidas!!!! Because he's a king parrot. *Tries to think of more famous kings* This is SPARTAAAAAA!!!! :hap: Louis, Henry, George (some kings have boring names!) Ulysses Paris Aeneas Ramses Rex lol Regulus BasilĂskos I like classical themes as you can see Lol at Caesar, Sunnie, you posted same time I did
  15. Hey, don't feel like you are whinging! We are a budgie forum, we cater to all budgie needs. And we know you are a very caring person who loves your budgie dearly. We are here to support all. Plus you aren't being annoying or whinging anyway! :hap:
  16. Maybe she is just a wee factory. I'm sure even if her babies are sick you'll find loving homes for them.
  17. A lot of toys have cotton rope too, which can build up in their GI tract and clog them up. Which is a shame as some of their favourite toys are cotton rope ones. I just clip the tassles off now. A mention on the copper bells. The penplaxx ones... I don't think they are actually copper as they never turn blue, they stay permanently shiny. My one I've had for 3 years and it is still a coppery/brass colour not blue. I like the little toys that have wood and paper and twizely string stuff ooo oo and the acrylic ones. They look like lollies :hap:
  18. Yes. I believe that if a budgie shows opalescence then it is more inclined to carry opaline. I've made this observation from my own birds and only my males have opalescence
  19. Unless the mother is a cinnamon also. In that case the cinnamon babies will be any sex
  20. That was a very good post with very good pictures. Thank you very much.
  21. My Arkady just recently died from a testicular tumour. He died during surgery. He was apparently tender on one foot, which I didn't pick up. It took him about 7 weeks from when I first noticed signs till his death on the table. His symptoms got progressively worse as the weeks went by and he spent about 4 of those weeks in hospital. He was a little fighter. He had been through about 3 anaesthesias before the last one took him, but he was quite ill at the time.
  22. That is a very good point
  23. See, I covered my bases by saying "most likely". But I didn't really say that anyway. Fresh sperm is always more ideal than stored sperm. So if she can mate in between then she probably will. Although 1 mating will probably be enough to fertilise all the eggs, subsequent matings will fertilise the more recent eggs. Like in dogs, where a b*tch can have several puppies in the same litter that has different fathers. But I would not think that she would need to hang on to Banjo's sperm, if she is bonded to Pedro, and mating with him. Don't know too much about the mating and hanging onto sperm habits of budgies yet. I didn't think I would be able to write b*tch
  24. And you can just keep on top of the water by doing frequent water changes at this time.
