  1. What great topic to show off these beautiful birds,,,,,, 2nd clutch from YF Cobalt Cock and Light green Hen Before After Lime - Opaline green (very pastel green) Wattle the 2nd - Opaline green Berry - Normal green
  2. Oh my they are just so beautiful, what wonderful colours
  3. The hen is light green and the cock is YF cobalt. Im not sure where the opaline comes from, as from what Ive read the hen and cock do not carry a diluted body colour in their wings, just the normal black and yellow. Im only new to breeding so I hope to be able to answer questions better in the future! In the first clutch I had one opaline but sadly she passed away last week. Here is a picture of dad THis picture gives a better photo of mum & dad markings on their backs 1st clutch Little wattle (RIP) who was green opaline As the new babies grow over the next few weels.. I will post pictures to show colouring.
  4. It is with sadness that my youngest budgie of my 1st clutch has passed away...........wattle was a beautiful girl
  5. It is exactly one month since my 2nd clutch was born. Three again in this clutch and it appears they will all be green at this stage. They are so adorable,,,not long till they fly the coop! I finally got a good picture of mother hen too....I just love her light green colouring
  6. Spot on Finnie! Seems someone is well up with their YF genetics Thanks for all your comments,,most helpful for me in this learning stage. cheers
  7. I have read a few of the colouring topics on colours for beginners, the great YFsymposium etc and at this early stage find it all a bit to hard to digest so as I know the colours of the parents can someone help me by naming exactly what colour the babies are: I got the hen and cock from an aviary with all green varieties and blue budgies. Hen-light green, has blue tail Cock-YF Cobalt, has blue tail All the babies have purple cheek patches and blue tails Here are some pics Budgie 1(green one) is he a YF Cobalt as cock is? Budgie 2-is this a Cobalt? have found over the weeks that he has purply tinge around his neck and above his tail Budgie3- is she a light green hen as the hen? she has alot of yellow on her cap and extending down the back into her wings

Hi,,no they don't and in better daylight I have seen the hen has a blue tail not green at all (so a big apology to other members).
  9. Yes two levels, it was $59 which I thought was a good price as it will last a very long time and has a solid carry handle on the top (photo doesn't show it too well)..
  10. Last weekend I gave my first baby budgie (polly) to my nephew and wanted to transport him safely with as little disruption as possible. I came across a top budgie accessory in a pet shop which I have called "the budgie transporter" and thought I would share it ...

My pair's first clutch of three produced 2 green and 1 blue... The first green (polly)looks very similar to the dad with his colourings and the second green has alot of yellow on her cap and back. The blue one is a cobalt colour but I have noticed a purply tinge around his rump.I have posted some photos previous of the babies on this topic,,,I am so fascinated that as they are getting older their colours are changing slightly..This afternoon Bolt (blue one) and Wattle (the green with lots of yellow) were sitting beside me on their perch nibbling at my skin as well as the seed i put down for them,,,they are just the best little animals

I took the liberty of taking a few more bigger snaps of "dad" budgie as to working out his colouring- YF Cobalt? I really need to read more on colours, mutations, variations etc dad budgie from behind for colouring purposes--being the great protector of mum and the pinkies!!

I got some photos finally of the mum and dad budgie, below Rainbow cock and Apple green hen Can't be sure but it looks like a light green or dark green hen to a green opaline split blue cock. Any bigger pictures? Cute looking birds, welcome to BBC! Thanks for clarifying my budgie colourings,,,as Im new and there are so many different colour types it confuses me!! I shall get some bigger photos for you to view this weekend, thanks
  14. Thanks finnie,,just where i needed to be directed ...
  15. I have noticed some breeders have a muesli type of substance on the floor of their nest box once the eggs have hatched ? what exactly is this bedding? my hen ditched all the bedding I placed into the box before she laid her clutch so i decided she preferred a "unbedded" nest box. I have read some breeders place bedding in the nest box once the pinkies arrive...Can someone provide me with some tips about what to use and does this alos alleviate the poop getting stuck onto the babies feet as the second clutch should be born about the 3 oct.

  17. Since joining this forum it's great to see others' little pinkies hatch and grow up. It must be such a rewarding feeling when you put all the hard work in and it pays off with lovely healthy chicks Finnie!
  18. Hi Im new to this also and your budgies are lovely,,I found that reading alot of books has help me initially and this site is excellent as well (thats why i joined it too), my two favourite books are Beginners guide to Buderigars by Paradise Press and The complete book of budgerigars by John Scoble. In my first clutch my budgie pair had three babies and they are now having their second clutch (5 at the moment). There is nothing better than seeing how budgies come into the world from egg to fledgling stage,,I have purchased an aviary as my budgies are producing alot! I think after this clutch though it will be rest time for the hot summer months here where I live... All the best
