My Improved Flight / Breeding Area B)

well its been along time and its not all finished but

................................................................................

..here it is

 

welcome to Avalon house

where magic happens and tranquility is found

 

my aviary started out as a tin 3mt by 3 mt by 210 high gabled shed that was converted into one flight space

it was great ,..well so i thought until my birds kept dieing and for no apparent reason

after almost one year of deaths and 5 autopsy's and a lot of unnecessary waste of money and medicating of birds for certain things as precautionary measures

i finally got a result from scarifying a sick bird by getting it anesthetized and a micro autopsy done after crop and poo samples were taken before it was put to sleep

the result was pneumonia ( airsacatitous ) caused by condensation and humidity of the aviary going from

very warm during day to very cold at night then as morning would come back around as it was warmer inside the condensation would drip off and onto birds and floor

the humidity it caused making the birds get fungal infection in airsac and dieing very rapidly of pneumonia

 

 

 

so the solution was to line the aviary

so i decided to do what was meant to be done from start and section off two flight spaces

only now one space has become a breeding area and the other flight space

its all very smiko looking

birds have been in a week now but here it is before they entered

theirs a opening shade cloth covered door on open wire so can be closed permanently in winter and opened right up in summer it latches to out side aviary

its quiet warm in their now staying regulated at around 8 to 4 deg at night and 25 durring day

still got some things to do like ventilation for breeding side to take extra dust out

and need to do something about breeding side as floor stays bit damp the pavers are sucking the moister up so maybe a drain out side along side i dont know yet

 

anyhow here are few pics birds in

its good nice amount of room i was worryed it would be to small

here is a three teared seed platter i made for birds

first platter has their budgie/finch mix

second has small parrot horse chaff and hulled Otes extra sunflowers

third has small fresh shells from sea side and small shell grit

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

theirs also a seed dish with budgie/finch on other side of flight

 

 

theirs a ledge for them to sit and play one

 

 

and a swing

 

 

 

 

 

i placed some nice water in the sun today

and.....

I love it Gb it looks great, when you attached the wood to the gable roof how did you go about it. Because you know how I am getting one the same size I am trying to work out how to attach my ceiling because there really is any frame work in those garden sheds.

 

My shed will be 3x3 with wall height 210 and gable height 245 I think.

@ splat,..

i just put some blue n silver builders instillation on the roof with liquored nails and then we secured 5 beams across up toward gabble not length ways then a lining of bubbled warped instillation to that then screwed straight to the beams they are not big thick ones

measured and cut the wood to size at the very top i left a gap under the wood lining and over lapped the last peace to the others with screws as so their was room to drill my ventilation holes

as i have a vent under the wood but are yet to drill the holes that will take the heat out through it as its winter i want to keep warmth in till their accustom to being outside

all the wood was screwed straight to shed to maximize room lose and strengthen shed

the out side looks like a mod punks jacket i will get some snaps

 

we drilled from outside in and then grind-ed off the points

i will get some pics if you like to show you

if not for you i would not of known where to start you gave me the infomation i needed to start convisations with others regarding my aviry and birds health so

i can not take the credit of the aviary's production however i can say it was me who held the whip and if not for that it would still be as was and birds would still be dieing

its been very hard to get this done as i dont know a lot of people and the ones i do well not the type who would bother to give anything but a offer then renege when time arrives at last mini

i almost hired a hire a hubby

but my dad came to my rescue as did a friend ive made outside my club

all the supplys came from local tip wood and screws even the tools used 90 percent were from tip

its amazing what people toss out as junk

so the total cost was for the wire and the wood to make the frame to the divider at a cost of $135 .oo that got me 12 bits of wood mouse wire a 10 meter roll

5 meters of normal square bird wire some u bolt nails and delivery

 

the untreated pine boards came also from tip

i guess their was a reason we had all toughs big storms here in Melbourne after all :D

timing is a good thing and benefited me greatly

all i can say is thank you god :D

i do feel sorry for toughs people whos homes and sheds buildings in general that were damaged and had to be taken to tip due to council regulations and safety laws but part of me cant help but be glad for their loss as it was my gain

is that wrong ??? cause i would have never been able to do all this if thoughs storms had not come about

my breeding area in the flight is not set up or started as yet im trying to measure what height three cages need

it will fit around 12 breeding cabinets compatible with room for me to move

but if you see the skylight where it joins top of gabble you can see what i mean

i had to do dodge job of filling small holes so birds cant get into the cavity

 

just did a trimming and rolled wire

these are wood screws we drilled hole into aviary first then straight through into wood

yes and no yes its screwed into roof no not straight through

see the small thin bit of wood its about half a centermeter thick

their are 5 of them going up toward roof

the boards are screwed to them at intervals but boards are long ways beams are other way ,..sorry i can not explain it any other way

well i did in parts but thats as im not a builder but then a friend helped and the rest was done properly

i just got to get up their and silicon seal the ones poking through so they do not get water running down them now

and as someone kindly pointed out to me

my rope swing needed fixing

normally i would plat the tasseled end and cut the excess but i forgot with all the excitement

so i have now fixed this issue as they can become more hazard than whats worth if a bird got caught in it

which is not irregular happening many a poor bird has died due to ring getting stuck of feet toes and done alot of damage flapping to get out

the birds need more room as i cut of 6 meters of their normal space so im extending with a pop out of about 1100 and 1210 and 1490 a crossed

i think thats just estimated guess

i just divided the flight at the door 3 cm away from where door hinges i extended a pop out to allow the birds the lost space at the moment my computer is down and im on my sons so none of my pics are able to be put on but if he lets me ill see if i can get some snaps of the pop out and all

my pop out its still not finished i have a blind for it and i have two clear plastic panels to stop draft at night to yet be installed and a window to and from flight so i can close it at will

That pop out is a great idea. I think I might look at constructing something like that myself, but I think the window needs to be bigger

What size is you (shed) bird room/ aviary GB, is 3m x3m . Love the pop out idea too.
