I will have to put i sign near Blinkie's cage saying, "Ladies with lippy, STAY AWAY from my oh so cute head!!!"
  4. A clothes horse works like a little washing line. It's very useful for those rainy winter days!!!

When you first get a budgie they are usually quiet. They're probably a bit shocked at the sudden change in environment!!! That's why your suposed to let them settle for a few days. So they can adapt. :fear

I would love to have Blinkie climb on my head! He's more into fingers, toes and shoulders!!! My first budgie Tweety used to greet people by flying onto their head. We got our house extended and she flew onto the boss guys head!!! :(Laughing out loud):

The aviary size sounds really great!!! As to breeding, you may or may not have success with just hanging the boxes in the aviary. If you do this you will have no clear idea of who the daddy bird is. Also hens can get really aggressive over nest boxes. Mine did some serious damage to each other when i tried colony breeding so i have to separate each pair into breeding cages if i want to breed. If you are going to colony breed i've read that you should have 2 boxes for each hen and twice as many cocks as hens. Not sure if this is totally correct. How many birds you can have in your aviary depends on perch space. Each bird needs like 10 inches of perch space. They spend most of the day sitting around remember. As to temperature i don't think it should bother them. Hopefully your aviary is in the shade. I live in Canberra, Australia and it can get both very hot and very cold during the year. My budgies don't seems to get affected by either extremes. Bea

Do all your birds have names?
  9. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Cage Discussion
Cool cage. It's a great size!!! I personally prefer the normal type of cage bars though. Ebay's great isn't it!!!
  10. I hope your budgie gets well soon!!!

Blinkie's favourite vegetable is celery leaves! He also enjoys picking at brocolli buds but not as much as the celery.

WE wouldn't run for cover!!! Then we would have a face other than the smiley face in your avatar the picture when you humour us all about feeding koalas!!!

I let Blinkie join me in the shower the other day and he really enjoyed himself. He much prefered showering with me than bathing in the sink by himself!

Very wise words Chirpy. I agree, if there is hope of them having a quality life then go for it. They deserve the best!!!

I get so embarrased when people call me pretty. Thanks though.

I decided to post some pictures of myself. I'm gonna post 3 cause i couldn't find one that i particularly liked so i'll post a few which are okay and you can decide what i look like from all of them. I look like a boy in some of them but i'm not. I'm a girl. I love horse riding more than anything and have been riding for nearly 7 years. I don't have my own horse despite almost daily attempts of begging!!! I've owned budgies since i was about 9 and got my puppy when i was 13. I am 15 now and turning 16 in September. I love all animals (except spiders, they don't count!). I really would like a pet corn snake but mum is terrified of snakes. I would like to be a zoo keeper or a vet nurse or a famous show jumper when i'm older!!! Now for some pics..... no laughing. Here's me with my little birdie Blinks. Me in New Zealand last year. It was this cool puzzle place and this thing let me stand on a weird angle. And this is me horse riding. The riding school got rid of the horse i'm riding cause he bolted too much. I thought he was great and i really miss him. Sorry if this was boring. And no laughing. Bea
  17. Those pictures were really helpful Rainbow. Jess, are you getting your bird from a pet shop or a breeder. If you can get one from a breeder they should be able to pick a male for you.
  18. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Yes, i breed but i have researched a lot and i wouldn't be breeding if i had nowhere for the babies to go. Please consider everything devvle said and be sure to either have plenty of space for more birds or know of people who can give the babies loving homes.

I had never heard of this but thanks for alerting me to it. I am very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to make the decision to put him to sleep.

I've never used nest box material before and i've never had any problems with breeding. I agree with Rainbow. It sounds like you're hen needs some time out from egg laying. I've never seen a budgie lay an egg but i've heard a chicken lay one. It sounds like hard work!!! :(Laughing out loud): I imangine it wouldn't be any easier for a budgie.

He was so cute. He looks just like my Limey.

The first 2 pics look like the babies spine isn't straight. I hope i'm wrong. I have never seen a splay legged budgie before. It's horrible. What happen's to the bird if the legs can't be straightened? Can it still have a fairly normal life?
  23. Don't inbreed. The babies probably wont be as strong as normal babies. There is also a defect where you get "feather duster" babies. They have twice the number of feathers as a normal budgie and only live for a max. of 3 months. Here's a link that has a picture of a feather duster budgie... http://www.hokonuigold.co.nz/images/whippe...okonui-gold.jpg

(Laughing out loud) (Laughing out loud) (Laughing out loud) You had better hope it's not the long lasting water proof stuff It'll come out with time. Using a mascara brush is a good idea!! Keep trying!

How close to the bathroom is Snowy's cage??? If it's at the other end of the house then i don't think there should be much of a problem. If he's near the bathroom can you move him as far away from the bathroom as possible??? I doubt the stress caused from travelling and being in a new place would be any good for Snowy either.
