  1. Hi all, Will budgies still breed if their ceres are not in breeding condition? Some of my females go out of condition while still raising chicks, will this have any effect on the babies? Thanks
  2. Hi, I am just wondering if I should add egg into my birds diet? They are fed a wide variety of fruit and veg already including corn, broccoli, bok choy, apple, orange spinach. If I start to add egg to their diet, how long should it be cooked for and what part of the egg should be fed to them? Thanks
  3. Hi all, Sorry I haven't been on for a while, I bought the albino and I believe both parents were albinos. She also had another spangle looking baby but i'm not sure what it's mutation is. here it is:
  4. Since spangle is a dominant gene, it is always expressed visually. So at least one of the parents of those chicks is a spangle bird. If neither parent is spangle, then an extra cock has gotten himself into the picture. Neither parent is a spangle and I do not have any spangles in my aviary. The mother is an albino and the father is a dark blue. Is it possible to have gotten a spangle? Thanks
  5. Hi, The lutino lace wing is a yellow lacewing, sorry for the confusion, i'm not that good with mutations either. Thanks
  6. This male has been paired with 3 different females, one pair produced spangles and opalines, another produced violets and cinnamons and now he has had 3 clutches with this female ( lutino lacewing ) and they have produced male and female cinnamons, violets and greens. Their has been 2 or 3 cinnamon females from him. Also I didn't want to start a new topic but i have gotten 2 spangles from another pair. They had only bred once and produced a opaline dominant pied yellow face mutant two grey female. I know that the fathers father ( grand parents of the spangle babies ) was a spangle, would his gene have come into these babies? Thanks
  7. Hi, I have just pulled the albino out of the box for the first time to notice it has brown wings, so I believe it is a lacewing. I have one male split to lacewing but he has only produced lutino lace wings, could this still mean he is the father? I do have another male split to cinnamon but not to ino so he couldn't be the father. Thanks
  8. The yellow and green pied starts off yellow and blue but as it grows older and goes through its molt it turns into yellow and green. Would I be correct assuming that the albino would be female? Thanks
  9. Hi, The parents of this clutch usually have blue opalines, golden faces, violets, yellow face pieds and white pieds, but this time around they have produced 1 violet, 1 albino and 3 white pieds. Why has this clutch produced so many white based birds and no yellows? Thanks
  10. Do you just add those two things together you do you add something else to hold it together? What fruit and veg would you suggest to give them? Thanks
  11. Hi, I have a pair of budgies that have produced an albino baby, the baby is around 9 days old. This pair has bred previously and produced golden faces, pied's and opalines. I don't know the proper names for their mutations but the father is a yellow and green opaline pied, and the mum is a white and blue pied. I do colony breed but I do not have any males split to albino, I only have split to lutino lace wing males. Could the father be split to albino even though he is a yellow based bird? My main question is, how did I get an albino baby? Thanks
  12. Hi all, I have 20+ breeding budgies and I give them bok choy, spinach, apple, corn, broccoli and carrot, along with their seed, cuttle bone, calcium bells and egg and biscuit mix ( brought from pet shop ) What else would you suggest adding into their diet, what do you give to your birds? What plants/flowers/trees do you give your birds? Thanks
  13. He has only had one lace wing chick, his son paired up with another female and produced the other lace wing. would this mean that both of them are split lace wing?
  14. Thanks, I have 2 of those lacewings they are half sisters. I always had a feeling they were lace wings but I thought the brown markings were to faint and it was just a normal lutino. Their father must be split to lacewing. What is he visually? The father is a bright green grey wing, he is also split to lutino because he has produced these lace wing babies?
  15. Thanks, I have 2 of those lacewings they are half sisters. I always had a feeling they were lace wings but I thought the brown markings were to faint and it was just a normal lutino. [quote name='Finnie' t Thanks
  16. Thanks for the answers, I have tried taking some pictures of the yellow face mutant two cobalt. Here is it's back. These are the cinnamon's parents, I believe the dad is split cinnamon because he has produced cinnamon's with another partner and the mum is a lace wing because previous cinnamon babies have turned out male and female. These are the cinnamon babies, you said this one looked to just have normal black bars, when you see it in person it is defiantly a cinnamon And here is the opaline dominant pied yellow face mutant two grey. I hope these pictures help, and thank you for your previous answers.
  17. Many birds have blue eggs with speckles, canaries do but they have small eggs. Starlings also lay blue eggs, do you know which birds are around your area? Thanks
  18. Hey all, I have 9 baby budgies ranging in ages. Three have left their nests but their are still six in the boxes. Here are a couple of pictures. This is a opaline and the other is a white and violet dominate pied These 3 are all going to be cinnamons, the mum is a lutino and the dad is a violet split to cinnamon. Will these yellow babies be lace wings? and is the blue a normal cinnamon? Does any one know what this mutation is called? This is an opaline but is it a violet opaline? Is this one a yellow and blue dominant pied? Thank you, if you could please answer my questions on their colors that would help. Thanks
  19. I'm no expert in color genetics but it looks as though it is a normal cinnamon. Looks like a really nice bird. Thanks
  20. These 2 budgies have taken the longest for their ceres to color, but now I can definitely say they are both females meaning the dad is split cinnamon and the mum is a normal lutino. She is having her second clutch before being stopped and now has three cinnamon's again. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks
  21. Hi, I colony breed and it is very easy, as long as you place extra breeding boxes in your aviary to give your females options they should be fine.
  22. Hi, I am currently attempting to hand tame a young budgie, it is just under 3 months of age and is going really well. It looks as though it will be a female, it likes to bite my finger but not hard only in a friendly way. Is their any way this can be stopped? Thanks
  23. The mum must be a lace wing because it has very faint markings along the wings and the baby looks like it is almost 100% male.
  24. One of the cinnamon's seems to be a male, so far it looks as though I have 3 males and 1 unknown.
