  1. Thanks Robyn. The green hen is a cinnamon opaline light green spangle but apparently the cinnamon alters the body colour and makes it lighter and he is a DF spangle. They are doing a lot of mating so hopefully eggs will come soon. Sounds like you have your hands full again. You must have very happy birds. You'll have a full aviary.
  2. Pair 1 have 2 little pinkies now and that's all they will have out of their clutch, unfortunately the egg I found with the heartbeat was addled. I did have to help chick 2 out of the egg, it seemed after 8 hours it was still only breaking the shell in one spot and when I got it out it was wedged sideways. Pair 2 have 4 eggs, I think they will only be having 2 chicks as well. the first 2 eggs are no good. Pair 3 still waiting
  3. Sorry to hear Its always hard to loose one of your birds. You did your best.
  4. I hope she keeps improving for you. Did the vet give you any medication for the rest of the birds as a precaution or just the male?
  5. Yay everything is coming together. I agree with Robyn about the cold, I have a 3 day old chick and one hatching at the moment and they seem to be coping and its gotten down to -1. I do pull a cover down on them over night though.
  6. I'm from Sydney, Australia. I have about 20 birds. The only thing I do when it is rainy here (my aviary does unfortunately get wet)is I treat them for coccidiosis for about a week as a precaution because it can wipe out your birds very quickly. This summer here was hot and wet and my club members told me to do it.
  7. I thought she was a he for a long time until all the black pigment went from her cere and I got a shock. Poffpoff is beautiful, I can see why you bought him.
  8. It's at about 5 days after they start to incubate the egg you can see the heartbeat. The chick in my photo is a show type and was about 3-4 weeks old, she doesn't look so fluffy any more and she's going through her first molt at the moment so not looking her best
  9. Hi Paulie, yes it is very normal for them to keep mating

    Sorry for your loss
  11. I bought the cabinets from a local pet shop.
  12. They can die from not being fed especially in a large clutch because the older, larger more forceful chicks get fed and the little ones (definitely newly hatched) get left out. If you do every breed more than one pair at the same time and one pair doesn't have many chicks you can foster the babies out between the nests. I recently discovered a heart beat when I candled the egg which is when you hold one of those mini led torches on the egg and you can see the heart beating. It is amazing to see Sorry I don't know about your Lovebirds
  13. Update already pair number 2 laid their first egg today
  14. Your pieds to me look recessive not dominant. Do they have iris rings? Pair 3 are both opaline and the hen to me looks cinnamon.
  15. Yay. It's so exciting when you discover an egg in the box. Good luck, I hope it all goes well
  16. I just thought I would start a new journal because all the old pairs and the last chicks have been put back in the aviary and I now have 3 new pairs This is my new double cabinet I have had for a week, yay I now have 2 of them (the other is in the aviary) Pair 1 has 6 eggs of course there was a set back she went off the eggs and they went cold and 2 embryos died but was very happy to discover a heart beat in another egg I thought didn't make it. Pair 2 were put down a week later but the hen didn't bond with the male and I changed him for another one and they mated after about 10 seconds, so fingers crossed. Pair 3 is a new pair given to me 10 days ago and I was told to put them straight down to breed so I did and she went into the nest box the same day I put her in there This is pair 3, my new birds They are so cute together
  17. Green ring is also 2013. R&T would be the breeders code. I don't know about the W.A. budgerigar society but you might be able to contact the ring registrar and tell you how to get in contact with the breeder.
  18. The only thing I can suggest is to put some seed and a millet spray in the nest box with her so she doesn't need to leave the nest to eat and make sure the food and water outside the box are not to far away from her. It is very rare that a baby will be trampled to death, they usually have died and then gotten walk on which makes them look like that's how they died.
  19. They look fantastic!!! Great job
  20. Sorry to hear about Whitey I hope you can get some answers.

It looks amazing!!! Well done again. You have some beautiful birds
  22. As amum4children says it depends on where you are breeding them. I have a couple of Canberra people in my club and they have just paired their birds to breed but they are indoors in their bird rooms. If yours are outside I would wait until spring
