  1. Thank you world33 Birdlove I hadn't either, she was my first show bird and none of my pet types ever went blue. She wasn't in a good condition, she had bad scaly mite but I treated her and gave her lots of TLC and touch wood its never happened again and she's had 4 chicks. World33 if it is a male it could have a hormone imbalance. Another member on here Robyn has a male bird that gets a brown cere and she treats him with iodine, hopefully she will read this topic and might be able to help
  2. I think it looks and sounds female. Hens when are young or out of breeding condition they have light blue ceres. Do you have a picture of the bird before it went brown? This is a picture of my hens blue cere
  3. I don't think there is anything to worry about, especially if he is healthy in every other way. Maybe it is just the way his feathers grow. I have a bird that has very similar feathers and I've had her for years with no health problems, I just think that is her feather structure.
  4. Hi, if that is what her cere looks like it would be scaly mite and you need to treat her with ivermectin.
  5. I have no idea but i'll give it a go yf, sky blue, grey wing, hen
  6. Sorry to hear about your losses. I hope things start to pick up for you and find happier times. BIG hugs from here.

Great you introduced yourself, welcome to the forum
  8. Hi and welcome to the forum
  9. She may have French moult which is a virus usually contracted in the nest box. Sometimes the feathers don't grow back so they never fly but I had one that lived a very happy life in my aviary with the rest of my birds because budgies are excellent climbers and that's how he got around. Mine did fall occasionally but he learnt to flap his wings fast enough to fall softer (I know that sounds silly but he did). If her feathers don't grow back she can have a great life she just has to learn her limitations.

Hi and welcome to the forum
  11. Hi, Do the feathers look flat at the end or rounded because her wings may have been clipped and she won't be able to fly properly until the feathers grow back. If you could you post a picture it might be easier to give you an answer

That I do remember that a hen can't be split only visual we're getting there
  13. Some times they come out while they are looking around and can't get back in, just put it back

Thanks Robyn, you are right the dad is split which if I'm starting to understand the chick will be a hen? I still get sooo confused
  15. Awww sorry to hear about the chick, maybe it got squished between all those eggs. It sounds like you are going to have your hands full
  16. Sorry to hear she died but it's NOT your fault you did what you could. If she was not weaned she should not have been sold to the petshop and you only had her for a week she might not have been well to begin with. Just a heads up for next time you get a new bird, you should quarantine them away from your other birds for 30 days just incase they are carrying any diseases which might not be visable at the time you buy them.

Thank you Jenny. The eldest is a foster (there were 2 of them) that weren't being fed. I took a bit of a gamble but I didn't have a choice. Plus it was one of those times that things went wrong, the hen who has them now her cock died after she laid 2 eggs so I put in another and she missed one lay day then laid 4 more and her first 3 were clear (2 from the first and 1 from the 2nd cock) so the gap was big.

Just adding my new bubs. I'm very excited I've never had so many babies at once I have lost my eldest chick which I thought I might (pics of it in another thred). Very surprised at the ino baby and a little plum eyed surprise

Sadley the chick died in shell
  20. Sooo cute
  21. Have you got any photos of the father and baby? It might be easier to get an idea of what it might be if we can see the problem wings.
  22. Hi and welcome to the forum. We always love another budgie lover
  23. haha L_J I think hubby would rather they fly away, he doesn't like them. One step at a time I'm not to concerned about the wild bird. The only thing I was warned about (I asked members at my club how to do the extension) was to have strong wire or double wire at the to because of predators.
  24. Thanks L_J. It's just started to rain for the first time since it was done and they are all out sitting in it I wanted a safety door too but I couldn't push hubby to much
  25. Now that's what I call a family holiday, birds and all
