  1. I'm no expert but I don't think DF spangles should have any colour patches, maybe he is a DF Dom pied?

You can get fraternal twins out of one egg but you can't get identical twins. It is very rare that they make it to hatching due to restricted space. So if this egg is fertile it is highly unlikely to hatch but it can happen
  3. Tracy, I found this in the FAQs http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/index.php?action=artikel&cat=8&id=25&artlang=en Nadene

L_J you can have twins hatch but it is very rare, they usually die in the shell because they run out of room. These are Kaz's twins http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=31357&hl=twins
  5. Bugger everything was going so well Sounds to me you've done the right thing taking her out and leaving them with the father. They shouldn't take to long to grow back as long as she hasn't damaged the feather follicle. Great news about pair 4

Just thought I would share a photo of my first double yolker. I'm not holding out hopes to get anything out of the egg but I just think it's amazing that it can happen

    Welcome to the forum
  8. Hi CasB, You're allowed to be nervous, it's because you're a caring and loving owner. It does take some birds longer to settle, especially when they are young as they may still be getting partially fed by a parent or older sibling and they have to then fend for themselves. That is why we quarantine new birds for a minimum of 4 week to make sure they are healthy. For the moment i might stay away from fresh food at the moment especially green leafy ones because the can change their droppings. You will find the they will try and chew on anything in their cage, what they are chewing on sounds safe. If in doubt and you are really starting to worry take them to your vet or ring the breeder (sometimes they are really nice and helpful) I know there is a fee but if it gives you peace of mind or he does have something that is treatable it might be worth doing. Good luck, I hope he gets better soon
  9. I think she did Robyn, I've never seen one where the red was all over their body (it doesn't really show in the photo). I find that my young birds like it when it is greated so if you have a kindy cage put it in there and they might start eating it and grow up with the taste. The older ones eat the leaves and I leave a little bit on the ends which the sometimes have a nibble at.
  10. Yeah, she did look like she was part of a crime scene
  11. How are the other nests going?
  12. Just thought I'd share a funny photo. I think she had a bath in the beetroot, she was covered from head to toe in red literally
  13. Hi Cass, Congrats on the new babies, they are very cute. It all sounds pretty normal to me. Sometimes it takes one a little longer to settle in than the other, just keep an eye on his poos and that he doesn't become more lethargic. You will find that there is always one bird that is the boss and sometimes it can switch depending on what they are doing e.g the two birds at the bottom of my post are the first ones I bred (my mum now owns them) and one is dominant inside the cage and the other is the boss when he is with people. They learn to groom and feed each other in the nest box because even though these two might not be brothers there can be a week or more difference in age in the same clutch and the older ones will feed the younger ones and thats what these will do too. Good luck with them

Hi and welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy reading through the wonderful information
  15. I don't know what the jerking movements are but sometimes the hen will tap on the box for the male to come and feed her. She might be trying to move the wood shavings because a lot of hens try to get rid of it and it won't hurt her if she has a little nibble as long as they are just natural plain wood shavings. Just keep in mind that they don't always get it right the first time, sometimes they don't get it right until the second round. Don't panic they will figure it out and you have to give them some time and space, I would only check them once a day or otherwise they can get stressed.

Congrats on getting them, they are soooo cute Good luck with the name picking. Some of mine don't have names, I could barely pick them for my kids Just be careful with the sandpaper on the floor because they can hurt their feet on it.
  17. Wow! That's amazing Jenny. Thanks for sharing. I often wonder what people put in their soft food mix, some people seem to guard their recipes like it's a matter of life or death
  18. I could be scaly mite and you can't get rid of it with a spray. You need to use ivermectin, it's the best treatment to use. It looks pretty advanced it may take a while to clear up. This is a new treatment that can be bought over the counter or on line http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/AVIMEC-50mL.html

Hi and welcome to the forum You will find a lot of useful information what you need to know about cages and training. Here is a link on cages. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=17858
  20. It's very hard sometimes to get the violet to show up in photos. Make sure you don't use a flash and try and take the photo in natural light.
  21. I like the 3rd one. It looks like it will have good air flow.
  22. You've had an amazing first breeding season That chick is definitely cinnamon. I can't wait to see him fully feathered.
  23. Nadene replied to robyn's topic in Budgie Pictures
Absolutely beautiful birds Robyn. How big is your aviary? (hope you don't mind me asking) I have decided to extend mine a little so I'm glad to see what you used for your corner posts
  24. They're looking great, soooo cute I love seeing it when their colours start to show. What colour were the parents? (I can't remember sorry)
  25. Here is a really good link on eye colour in chicks because plum eyes darken as the chick gets older http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/index.php?action=artikel&cat=8&id=315&artlang=en The chicks are looking fantastic, sooo happy for you
