What Sex Is My Budgie!
My girls are red (they are sisters) with black tails although they are both going grey now. Their mother was red and the father was black and tan so they are a mix both parents.

Wessiri's Budgies
If it wasn't for Finnie and Robyn lately not many questions would be answered. The forum seems to have lost some of its fun. Getting back to topic for a sec, I recently bought a double version of the breeding cabnet and I don't think that one of my hens can figure out how to get in it so I'm glad to see I can fix that. Thanks for showing what you did wessiri

First Attempt At Breeding Advice
Hi rachelrose, Congrats on your first baby. The eggs should hatch every 2 days just like when they were laid. The eggs hatch between 18-21 days. You can often tell if an egg is fertile by the colour of the sell,if it is fertile it will look whiter and shinier and the others will look pinker and opaque. If you are concerned sometimes people can tell if you post a picture of them. Hope this helps. Good luck Kathryn and I posted at the same time I will add, if you do only get one hatch it is better to leave an infertile egg or two in with it because it stops the hen sitting to heavy on the chick and also retains a bit of warmth and give it something to prop itself up on.

First Ever Clutch
Hi, Sorry to hear about your baby. Unfortunately I can't help you with why it died but just to give you some hope, because the exact same thing happened to me with my first chick in my first clutch and then the hen went on to raise the other 2 chicks she had perfectly. I also did with another hens chick what Jenny said with hand rearing formula. Good luck with the rest of the chicks.

My New Additions
Thank you Robyn. The chicks are great and I'm really excited about the one out of the last clutch (the one I put the band-aid on) because I finally have a spangle. He is a yellow face grey and he is so cute.I was going to take the older 2 to my meeting this Friday but they've started there first molt and look terrible. How it your bird that was having trouble with is flights? Did they grow back?

My New Additions
Thanks Birdlove and Finnie. They are great people in my club (especially the ones on this forum...hehehehe). It's just nice to go where people have the same interests because i'm the only one in my family. I even told a family member after I had joined the club and she said "Oh don't become one of those people" .So I replied sharply I already am one of those people and always have been now I just have somewhere I can go and be with people that feel the same!!!

Budgies And Bushfires
Hi Pebble, I've only had 1 experience with with smoke which also had ash falling due to back burning and the only thing I noticed was 1 bird sneezed for about a week. He was fine before it showing no other symptoms of illness and then just went, it was like it gave him sinus (I don't know if they can get sinus but thats was it was like).

My Babies
Thank you Robyn, although I did have a oh-no moment when I realised the hen had eaten all the shell and I had to look for the band-aid (which I found). There has been no more fur balls but the other chick that was fostered in that box often does the same motion of being sick with nothing coming out so I don't know if it has some in his crop. I've gone back to thinking it was the father, he wasn't very good at looking after the chicks.
