  1. I have had a couple of sick birds lately, one died and the other is starting to get better after a second lot of antibiotics. My question is what can I give him to help put his weight back on as he is just feathers and bones?
  2. Devastated to say the baby died today It aspirated. Feeling very sad and guilty that I should have done something different

They are beautiful Robyn. I'm glad to see everything turned out I love the colours, it makes me want more birds l.o.l.
  4. I'm just using the eggs to prop it up like it would in the box, they were addled. I think the problem was she layed the eggs and then went into a heavy moult. The box is full of feathers and she has pin feathers all over. It's been tough, I think this crazy weather has something to do with everything happening. Sorry about the splayed legs I hope you can fix them.
  5. Hi Robyn, No it's just me. I'm trying my best. I couldn't believe Iv'e just ordered a incubator that can be used as a brooder but it hasn't turned up yet. So this is how I'm keeping it warm with a mini heat bag, the sleeve of a warm baby jumper and a stuffed dog (not ideal but it seems to be working). At least i can take it with me, it slept next to me last night and is with me now at the computer. I was lucky I already had some neocare. Finger and toes crossed. It seems happy, healthy and loud so far. I hope all is well with your birds
  6. thanks Kaz, I got it out nice and healthy but mum abandoned the eggs last night and i was hoping once it hatched she would show interest but now wont go near the box and is sitting as far away as possible
  7. I have a egg due to hatch. Yesterday afternoon I noticed the first crack and another small one this morning in the shell but it stll hasn't hatched. There are peeps from the egg, should I leave it or does it need help? My others didn't take this long to hatch from first crack.

It's great to see everything is going so well after all the trouble you have had It really was a big egg (ouch). It amazes me what a day can do, ANZAC looks good.
  9. Wow she sounds like a great mum. I can't wait to see some picture's. The only visable difference with the egg was its size, it was bigger than the rest.
  10. Just a quick question, how do you get them to stop biting or will they grow out of it?
  11. That's great Robyn about the chicks . I was going to post you that question today, you must have e.s.p. It's strange what they do with their eggs, my hen layed again and threw out her first egg and now she is sitting on 4 and I know it was her because I caught her rolling it around like a marble.
  12. Just a couple more photos
  13. I'm glad everything is working out Robyn I know how frustrating it is to break a fertile egg, I did it with one in this clutch and could have kicked myself.
  14. I love the cinnamon and mauve too, i was hoping for one and ended up with two of them. It's just a shame the the photos don't do them justice. My mum who doesn't have any pets has put her hand up for the little boy and already got herself a cage.
  15. Just thought i'd show my babies up on a perch Soooo cute
  16. They were definitely red.
  17. It would have been interesting to know what the chick that died would have looked like because it was going to have red eyes, so all 3 were different. Genetics confusing but very interesting
  18. Thanks Kaz. I might sound stupid here (probably will) but i was doing some reading on dominant pieds, could she be a double factor dominant since she has so much white and very little markings? It also said they look like recessive pieds except for the iris ring. I would love some to look like her with out her O.C.D for being clean.
  19. Thanks Kaz . It's more like an iris ring. She only has a ring in one eye does that make a difference?
  20. His wing are blue Finnie. This is the best back shot I can get. That's amazing I am sure it's a girl but I could be wrong
  21. Thanks B.J. I worried because I have had 4 chicks hatch and only 2 have survived and there is no harm in asking if you don't know something, that's why I love this forum . Dad looks like this
  22. Sorry Finnie I'm not very good with colours and genetics, I try to read them but then i feel like a idiot for understanding them. She is cinnamon, here are some pics (maybe you could tell me what she is?) All I know is I think she is beautiful ; )
  23. Hi Finnie, they are great. They started to put on weight after about 2 days, and now you can tell they are being fed again. They now look like this is this a boy? I still can't believe how fast they grow, it is amazing
  24. Thanks Robyn, this is what they look like They do nible the oats on the floor. I was wondering if the are too small for the igloo that Kaz makes out of an icecream container with seed on the floor?
  25. Thanks B.J. They look good. I think they are getting fed but only small amounts by they hen and the loudest (which is the youngest) is getting the most. I will weigh them in the morning and keep and eye on them. I do have hand rearing food if I absolutely have to.
