  1. Hi Steve A slip of the finger on my post. It should read Boxes removed if full nests are raised in 2 rounds. 3 rounds if only 1 or 2 chicks raised... Well you've got 2 opposing views about breading in winter. It's up to you...B.J.
  2. Hi I've no idea what the weather is like where you are. But its normal unless you have some sort of heating to restrict breeding to the late spring early summer. Nest boxes should be removed after 2nd or 3rd round of chicks if only few chicks are raised. If you can supply no heat then your problems are not with the breeding birds but with chilled eggs & dead chicks You can remove the boxes it wont harm your birds....It's up to you....B.J.
  3. Hello With any poo problems. It's better to take your bird & a sample of poo For examination. Pet shop are on the whole not very healthy places. No quarantine for instance....B.J.
  4. Hello George Sorry about your problem. Picking up the odd tip on taming is not really the way to go. You need to follow a complete a program. where one step follows another. & you keep at it till each step is complete before you move on to the next one no matter how long it takes. So I urge you to select one of the Bonding Taming posts on here & follow it through.....PS Your vets advice of sitting on the floor is not as comfortable as sitting on a chair with your cage on the table & you wont be looming over your bird like a giant predator.....B.J.
  5. Hello Click on the link bellow for a colour chart you can save.. okay...B.J. http://budgieplace.com/colorsguide
  6. Hi Just to remind you there are different degrees of FM. From cont, loss of lots down to few feathers. Birds usually have a scruffy look. You can see evidence of mites from there little black droppings at the base of feathers or even a mite or two....B.J.

  15. Hi. Dillster . Separate the bird with scaly face its catching.. Get cure from good pet shops or on line. It's easy to apply in fact you may be better doing all your birds just in case. It soon clears up..B.J.
  16. Hi After some thought on the subject. I can't think of an easy way to control a behaviour without your presence. Be it, a wanted or unwanted action/reaction. Without the aid of a concealed accomplice, to administer or operate a mild distraction or punitive action... Personally I would stick with the mirror & leave the radio on........B.J.
  17. Hello If you examine the internal Skeleton & muscular organs of the Budgie & the Parrot You will note that that the parrot has the greater ability to reach his beak with his foot. plus having the more dexterous foot muscles. The budgie reaches up to his beak area with more of a side lift, useful only for scratching & preening.....B.J.
  18. Hi The obvious choice would be a mirror & bell. I know there frowned on by many people with the excuse they cause many problems. Which in reality are caused by the birds owner. Such excuses as he wont bond with you. When no bird would want to bond with anyone who wasn't more interesting to play with than a lump of wood.....B.J.
  19. Hi A, boy. Yes of course your bird can have a friend. But why would he need one when he;s got you??? ......B.J.

  21. Hi. Budgie show people probably transport more birds than any on else. Taking a tip from their travelling box. It is usually a suitcase type box with air holes. designed to hold a number of show cages. ranging from the small holding 2, to cases holding up to 8......B.J
  22. Hi Biggles Glad you've decided to do it right. Don't worry about the birds & hot weather. After all don't they come from some of the hottest parts of Australia. Don't believe all the stuff you read on the web. Ask all your questions on here. There will always be someone to help you.....B.J.
  23. Hi Biggles. Budgies can be kept at low temp in a draught free place.during winter, But it is not ideal for breeding. The eggs could chill & if they hatch the babies are susceptible to cold. They are Budgies not Penguins. Why do you wan to breed budgies in winter????? It is not a good time. I would remove the nest box& wait till Summer...B.J.
