Hi If your aviary has a closed in section that is damp & draught proof then you should not need heat unless you live where the winters are really bad. Yours B.J.
  4. Hi. Owning a bird for a week isn't enough time for either of you to get to know each others body language . The bond between bird & owner is built over time. Click on the post bellow, you may find it will help you. Yours B.J. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=31805

  7. Hello Provided you used plenty of disinfectant. Stripped it into various parts & left it out for the sunshine to kill off any little nasty. It should be okay. Just make absolutely sure new bird is healthy.. The longer it takes you to choose another bird the better. Yours B.J.
  8. Hi Why not treat your bird to a proper cage bird bath less mess & wont tip up. As long as your birds indoors he can bath as often as he wants, if you let him. Yours B.J.
  9. Hi Here's my opinion for what its worth. Colony breeding problems are almost always the owners fault. Overcrowding colony birds need about four times more space per pair than cage breeding birds who's personal space is governed by the walls of their cage. An aviary of breeding budgies should almost look empty . .Nest box arrangement & number. Never enough & too close together. Care in the selection of suitable compatible pairs. Allow birds to select their own mates & remove the rest. If you want to breed big numbers, Stick to cage breeding. Yours B.J.
  10. Hi When animals/birds etc are kept in in unnatural conditions, ie. captivity. they do unnatural things. Yours B.J.
  11. Hi Got to agree that different sizes/shapes of perches are required in an aviary. If you put together a dog type obstacle course. That would be a GYM worthy of the name, you could then interact with your birds on a proper gym. Yours B.J.
  12. Hi Lactose free Cottage Cheese is the only one considered safe for birds. Just because no bad symptoms have shown yet. It's the long term effects, like life shortening that you have to think about. Yours B.J
  13. H Not unless it was mouldy old seed. Seed falling on damp soil under normal circumstances would sprout. Soil in an aviary is soon contaminated especially under perches. You would be better off with paving or concrete That can be cleaned at least weekly. Seed is best confined to a feeding station with trays to collect husks, dropped seed etc, Yours B.J.
  14. Hello Funky. Your aviary budgies interacting with each other will be to busy to need a special gym building. If you have a special bird as a house pet Then build what you want. The gym idea was to redirect the birds energy to one specific place, rather than wrecking the house. Swings ,ladders branch to chew on etc Yours B.J..
  15. Hello If your following my bonding post. I would advise you to re-read the, "Fear of hands" section again. If you don't understand any of it. I will be happy to help you.Yours B.J.

Hi Funky. Re baby budgies. Any babies will add to the total number of birds in your aviary. If you have 4 breeding pairs & each pair has say 4 babies. The hens will want to lay their second clutch & won't want 16 inquisitive chick hanging about in the aviary. Your total number of birds now will be 24. If you do as well 2nd round, your total number of birds will 40. If you don't remove the chicks. You will end up with dead birds.okay.....Yours B.J
  17. Hi lover. I would hazard a guess its the source of the problem you have to deal with . Empty the aviary & give it a good clean out with disinfectant. Remove the top soil & replace with fresh. Clean all item used even your shoes. Then only return birds that are well. A sick bird can reinfect the aviary. Yours B.J.
  18. Hi Don't tell me you can't buy cheap Chinese toys over there. Our cheapo shops are full of them. There a mine of suitable kids stuff that can be used or converted for budgie use. My Super Car, In Save My Puppy was made from a pull-a-long plastic bus. Yours B.J.

Hi Got to agree with post above. I reckon 4 pairs of birds max as permanent residents. Supply 7 or 8 nest boxes all at same hight as far apart as poss. Any chicks born should be removed as soon as weaned.. Pictures okay
  20. HI, just spotted some budgie size skateboards at £1 each. At my local paper shop. (News agents) As most of you know they make a great toy for budgies. I would grab a couple if I were you. You never know how long this toy will be in stock. If you don't need one now, you never know you may want to teach your bird to use one in the future. Thinking ahead.. B.J.

Hello. Can't get your link to work. Why not just give us the measurements? Yours B.J.
  22. Hello Just like to point out that you don't have to use seed as a treat, you can use any fruit/veg or anything the birds like. even cake or cookies in moderation. Millet Spray, millet still on the stalk can be had from your seed supplier. You can grow your own if you want to, just plant the seeds. Yours B.J
