The Mikado
Hi guys, This week, I'm in a musical called 'The Mikado', and the trouble that we have is there are no nights sold out! In fact, we have at least one night that's practically empty! So what I would like to ask all of you who live in Perth, is if you might want to come to JSR mirrabooka from 7pm to about 10pm from tomorrow to Friday to watch? Tickets will be on sale at the door, and it's $16 for adults, and $8 for consession... A program (if we're doing programs which will be likely) will be great of you can come I'll be Pooh-Bah (for most of it I'll be wearing a teapot hat) my brother is Nanki-Poo who is the main lead Invite yourselves, invite your family, invite your friends, invite your neighbors, it'll be awesome if you wanna chat, just wait around and start talking to me

Very Sick Baby Budgie
Poor bird..... It's kinda funny in a very sad and sick way, the City farmers only a 5 minute bike ride from where I live, stocks perfectly good birds (although they don't really sell many, they're just handtamed and usually only two or three in the shop at any given time)... in fact, they're likely to never get sick in the shop! Across the road, there is a XXXX (I think it's an offbrancher of City farmers?) and their birds are in terrible condition! Not once have I seen a clean cage, in fact, not once have I see a spot in the cage that's not covered in poop! Their birds are likely to die in a week of the buyer buying them The only reason I go to XXXX is for the bird toys, because they have a massive section for bird toys

Taming 1 Year Od Budgies
Finnie, there's a possible problem with getting the female trained to get the male to follow her... She might become undertrained and start biting, which would lead to the male biting and very sore hands... You've got to take every possible situation that might occurr

Taming 1 Year Od Budgies
Sounds to me like you could use some one on one sessions... This basically means out one of the birds in a room with you and slowly train each one to accept you as part of their flock and slowly reintroduce them to each other until they have no problems with sleeping and living in the cage... It might actually be solved by making their cage more inviting, as I have no in depth information about the situation, I'll just say to make sure that firstly its a decent sized cage, an has plenty of toys from foraging to foot toys, and weave some nntoxic plant tigs and leaves between the bars, your fids will love the cage and will love it note than the tree

What More Can I Give?
I did a quick google search and i found a site that says to use 40% Canary seed, 50% millet (Mixture of white, panicum, japanese and yellow) and 10% whole oats... Not sure if it's balanced, but it seems okay to me

What More Can I Give?
Hmmmm.... let's see if I can remember what I give my birds I put hardboiled egg (with shell), wholegrain pasta (i like the one that looks like yellow rice), veggies, some pellets, some seeds, veggies, raw pistachios and anything else that I can find in the fridge that's edible for them They really love it... I make weekly batches and use a food saver to make sure it doesn't spoil...

A New Budgie
Hey KAZ I'm actually really surprised you didn't have a pet budgie The best thing to do for starters, is to clicker condition Stanley... This means that you click a dog clicker (I bought mine from City Farmers in the dog section of course for around 6 bucks but I'm sure there are cheaper ones) and you click and reward (millet is the obvious choice, but it's good to have a fruit and nut mixture that he likes)... The best way to clicker train a bird, is to actually do it while he's doing something that makes him happy (For Sparta, this is when music is on, playing on her boing, chirping softly, shaking her tail feathers, scratching her head, perching on one foot, beak grinding, etc. There are so many different things that make different birds happy and content, it just depends on the bird Anyway, after you've clicker conditioned him, get a chopstick, and put the tip of it near him but below his head, and as soon as he touches it with his beak (must be a touch with the beak, not the foot, not the butt, the beak) click and reward. Once you can see that Stanley's anticipating the reward, you can make him move around for it... As many bird trainers suggest (I think B.J. does this but I'm not sure) put him on a training diet, it's not about the food you give him, it's about taking out the food at night, and training him the next morning so that he's slightly hungry and willing to work for the food. Soon, you'll be able to get him to step up Get your chopstick (from now on I'll refer to it as a target stick) and hold a finger out from your other hand and put it near the perch, but not too close or you might scare him. Put your target stick on the other side of your finger so that Stanley has to step up onto your finger to touch the target stick and when he does step up, say step up After he feels comfortable on your finger, inch by inch, move away from the perch, and still with the step up command, get him to perch on your finger... After a while, you'll be able to have him fly from his cage to your finger across the room This is the basic part of training and will lead to a very lovable bird I would suggest getting birdtricks.com courses because they are great people who you can trust If you're really dedicated to get Stanley's full love and attention, I'd suggest taking a trip over to America, and take a birdtricks free flight course (very very costly, as the course costs about 5 grand, but you can remember what you learn on the course and teach it to any future pet birds) this'll mean that Stanley will be able to perch on your newspaper while you have a cup of tea on the porch It also means that he'll be able to be very fit and strong and live a long life If you want, once Stanley becomes very tame, I can mail you a copy of one of the birdtricks tricks that I've got It was in the halloween package that was given out last year I can also lend you the dvd, but I'll need it back The dvd has tips on target training your bird (demonstrated with a pacific parrotlet off the top of my head). I hope you find my advice useful, and I'd suggest joining the birdtricks facebook page, because they have some very good tips, and have monthly competitions where you can win some cool prizes Goodluck

Building An Aviary
Good thinking Geb, I think it's a great idea You should get a few more dog dishes so that you can have spares, so you can just switch them over from time to time

Cages ? Right Or Wrong ?
A petsone or Avione (I think that's the brands name) flightcage would be about the minimum I would give a budgie... I've got a pretty similar to this one I'd say that it'd fit 2 or 3 budgies comfortably, but I wouldn't go putting anymore in, because they might get territorial Hope I helped

New Aviary - When Will They Start Pairing Up
I'm not sure if budgies pair like finches, but once a finch is comfortable, it can as less as a week till you see fertile eggs being pooped out, but it can also take up to two months... For Budgies, I'd say around 1-3 months is your likely bet

Breeding Pair - Finches
Well, I had a three day year 9 camp, and I just checked the nest, and hey presto, THEY'VE GOT AN EGG Oh and they're in a flight cage now, one of the small ones that don't come with a stand, but they're really happy with it

Finnie's Website
I think that it would be a good idea to try and get a focused shot, because it will mean that you'll get a bit more publicity... It's an awesome site, it's just that a few of the photos on the main page aren't focused, I'd say to try and only use the focused ones, and if you don't get any, try learn a bit of photoshop to get it slightly sharper Hope I helped

Cages ? Right Or Wrong ?
I was only saying that if you have to get a tall cage, only use it for a parrot, because they only really climb in cages in me and my families experience?
-
Cages ? Right Or Wrong ?
What I find, is that budgies in a cage will only climb around, and they will fly when in an aviary... and KAZ, I'll have to disagree with you when you say that taller cages are more suitable for finches and canaries, because finches and canaries, like any other bird, fly horizontally (although I have seen my finches jump up vertically and flapped their wings once or twice to go up 90 degrees) If anything, a taller cage is more suitable for a budgie/parrot because they're more climbers than flyers in captivity unless you free flight train them

Food For Recovery
Chamomile tea is especially good for if you want to have a quiet day from your birds It's kind of like alchohol for birds except no bad side effects... only good ones
