  1. thanks RIP !! so he is a dutch pied with NO opaline! thanks so the pied mutation was playing a trick on me, making me think it was opalescence, but it was just 'frosting' which is typical in pieds! got it! thanks again. now i know for my genetics when i breed!
  2. thanks dave, she is still pretty, opaline cinnamon green is a fantastic mix it looks great! thanks for the picture.
  3. thankyou all for your help. so it looks like you can get thes varieties. now some pictures would be good! does anyone have pictures of: -green, cinnamon opaline. (both dark and light green) -D/F violet cobalt -AND a mauve with violet, D/f or S/f ...... ps< is this possible? is the violet visual on mauves? ???
  4. okay so once again i was thinking.... surprise surprise anyway i was thinking about mutations, as this is something that interests me. an all of a suddenly rushed over me.... can you get double factor violet cobalts?? as i have heard of s/f violet cobalt (tru violets) and d/f sky blue...... but NEVER a d/f cobalt if there is one it must be xtremely purple in colour? so my challenge is for who ever wishes to accept... find me a picture of a d/f violet cobalt please! oh and another proposition..... can you get Green oplaine cinnamon in the one bird, as i have never seen these beofre. only blue opaline cinnamons if there is can anyone find me a picture. the reason i ask this is you all have alot of experience and would probably know. and you may most likely have bred one and have pictures of your own. thanks for your help grant.
  5. wow wow wow!!! they are all so lovely robyn very very pretty birds. not to sound superficial or anything but not one of them is ugly or undesirable they all have lovely colours, great mutations opaline, cinnamon, yellowface and spangle! wow and gentle features and happy faces. you are very lucky if i was allowed to pick 3 it would be.... aquarius no.2 hulk no.2 and either queenie no.1 or aquarius no.1 congratlautions i cant wait til mine have babies!
  6. hmmm... hey maddy this is a tough one im going to go with both males. the violet on vinaka is a boy i think. they are a tad adrogynous atm but time will tell. alpaca-boy
  7. congratulations houman! i hope you and tammy have many fun times together for years and years to come! tammy. and well done to GB you should be proud of yourself for taming such a good little budgie. i commend you on your efforts ! from alpaca-boy
  8. hurry up and put some damn pictures up. we are all waiting, and we have waited so long. pictures... pictures... pictures...!!!
  9. i love to horse ride! i really like the palamino colt :laughter: very pretty
  10. PICTURE 1 he has white flight wings, sorry about that here you can see in this picture Kaz that he has white flight wings. and his main tail feather is white and black down the centre, and the other tail feathers underneath that are a navy blue, if that helps at all? PICTURE 2 and GB you can see his full wings here in PICTURE 2, the other side has the same markings =] there is no blue present anymore.... which is my point as before he had traces of blue through his wings. as seen in "PICTURE 1" ^^^ *if you read this RIP, my questions for you are on page 1 down the bottom, thanks :laughter: *
  11. lucky you houman, hope you have fun with your new birdie. so what did it end up being?? boy or girl and is it a sky blue normal, or skyblue violet???
  12. Has anyone seen RIP i hope she is okay, she hasnt replied and she usually is really quick? RIP have you gone on holidays ? i guess i wil just have to be patient. no probs. alpaca-boy
  13. hey ratzy, having blue around the vent.... doesn't that usually mean that they are split for blue?? if it is a green that is. thats what alfalfa has, so i am hoping she is split for blue as this gives me agreater range of colour options when breeding! i think from what i have researched it may also be a green violet, as violet is added to the original colour, but it shouldonly darken the plumage so im sticking with the idea that dude is a split for blue PS: THANKS KAZ FOR THE PICTURES, HELPS MORE WHEN YOU CAN SEE IT FOR YOURSELF, THEY ARE LOVELY.
  14. oh wow cool! so i guess that answers all my questions! 1. You can get violet opalines 2. You can get violet pieds 3. violet is added to the base colour (violet+cobalt= true violet) and greens can get violet it just darkens there colour like another df but there is one query unaswered and that is whether violet truly does show on the wings of a violet opaline if anyone can answer this or has a picture i would be extremely grateful, thanks. PS: violets must be rare as you dont see them thta often. well i dont anyway. and know i really want one
  15. Hi all, well i have answered some of the questions myself as i did some research on the net and found a var yhandy site. which i beleive maddy got her information from as it sounds very similar: http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html#violet this is an excellent site for mutations but it does not answer Q2 so could someone please clarify Q2 for me! thanks heaps. oh and also does the violet truly show throughon the wings in an opaline violet??? thanks A.B.
  16. Hi all, i once again have query about genetics and possibilites. okay so, i was thinking the other day if it were at all possible to acheive: 1. A violet budgie with opaline, and if so would the colour in the wings be violet or not???? and. 2. Is ther such a thing as violet pieds?? and. 3. Is violet added to the base colour (ie:cobalt + violet) or is it a colour in itself?? and can greebn budgies get violet?? or only blue? thankyou for your time Alpaca-boy.
  17. RIP . could you please please answer the following questions. 1. Does my blue budgie have opaline or opalescence or split for opaline??? the pictures above i hope will help 2. Is mortimer a dutch pied or an australian pied, and what does this mean? 3. Are both these mutations dominant over normal? 4. What type of YF does he have? here are more pictures to help you:
  18. vinaka, well thats definately different. was this inspired by anything in particular?? i am a fan of wierd names! my two are called alfalfa and mortimer. i am envying you, i am now starting a search for a violet hen with a white face. no other mutations. maybe one day i will get another. sigh.
  19. agreed RIP, i just noticed the patch on the back of the head, this is pied isnt it. i think your spot on anne101 ps: i commend you on your efforts for saving these 2 budgies and your attempt to save the hen you are a really nice person Pps: and your efforts have rewarded you with two lovely birds! and i think what dean from NZ said is correct about the grey but would be cobalt, as i can see a blue tinge coming through.
  20. i agree with catherine. i had a little girl budgie at first by herself, she was quite and rarely sang and just sat on the perch alot, not really inquisitive or curious but then i got her a friend and she started to be more lively and chirpy and now she does all sorts of acrobatics around the cage, and they follow each other everywhere. just a word of warning if you get a second they are less likely to attach themselves to you as they have each other but they still like you. when i got my 2nd they still hopped on my finger but preferd to stay in their cage with one another. good luck, and enjoy your budgie! Ps; pepi is very cute.
  21. i think that you have a sky blue opaline CINNAMON looks brown to me so it looks like your wish was granted and the other is absolutely adorable, and i think she is a recessive pied, violet, cinnamon and i am not sure due to unclear pictures but she may be a spangle! as i can see brown rims not the usual black with white rims?? ps: with the violet, is it a colour in itself OR... is it an adding factor so in this case a sky blue or cobalt with violet added on top?? very pretty though alpaca.boy.
  22. OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is so cute! i am very jealous, i wish i could impulse buy but, evry time i go to the pet shop my mum is like "no more grant, we already have a zoo at home" lol... =[ but congrats. is it a violet or cobalt??
  23. ah ha! you are right! thanks nubbaly :fingerscrossed: why didnt i think of that, the cinnamon decreases the intensity of the chest feathers! so then i dark green would look like a light green, but not quite, therefore giving the colour that alfalfa has! we have solved the mystery so i have a cobalt boy and a dark green girl, what colours could i get from this?? only dark green and cobalt ?? or could i get sky blue, light green, cobalt and dark green?? PS: i should have figured that out, as i posted a topice on a powder blue, and people replied saying it was a sky blur and the cinnamon had diluted the colour on its chest. oh well there you go. so alfalfa is a normal dark green, with cinnamon wings and mortimer .. well i need help on that, if anyone care too its under "opaline or not opaline?" but i know he a cobalt, pied and split for opaline. what pairs could i posssibly get?? from thes two?
  24. okay RIP thanks, ill be patient and wait for you. good luck at the races.
  25. oh okay thanks ratzy, i see. well good luck with it all clancy
