  1. isnt colony breeding just what birds do in the wild???? it would be the same thing in thw ild if two related birds mated right?
  2. thanks Nerwen and Nubbly so sounds like he is a dutch pied, and not opaline, but probably spilt. iwill inform you if he gets iris rings. calling RIP.... calling RIP. please come and help me, i hope you can hear me. okay fine i will just send a pm
  3. what was the approx. temperature today down your way??? if it was cold, maybe the did freeze a little, and are still cold, keep them warm, and bring the other one in side just incas this is the reason. wait a day or so and if they still seem sick, then you will have to take them to the vet. try and make a booking ahead of time, to prevent having to wait. let us know how it goes, ps it is a bit hard to diagnose there problem over the net, so maybe the best thing to do is to get them proffessionally checked. pictures might help?? is there any other sypmtoms? hudling usually means they are cold and are trying to keep warm, by body heat from one another. good luck ratzy. alpaca boy.
  4. so nubbaly, what defines a dutch pied and a aussie pied? what are the differences, visually? thanks for your info
  5. what is a dutch pied?? i have heard of recessive, dominant, and australian but dutch? so are we all adiment that it is opalescence, and mortimer is split opaline??????
  6. mortimer has NO iris ring.... YET as he is still a baby only 4 months old i will post a picture of the front, to help you all figure out whether he is a receesive or dominant pied. N.B he has a white tail and white flights if that helps bu the rest of this feathers as you can see are black here is his front and his side profile hope it helps
  7. okay dean from nz, your saying he may be split for opaline, and he is just showing this split. so if i was to breed him with a hen with NO opaline, would there be any chance that the chicks may be opaline as i have heard somewhere that is is sex-linked. so a female cannot carry it unless it shows opaline, and a male can have it (split) and not show it due to chromosome xx and xy so if i did a punnet square it would be (with xy and xx and o= opaline) ....... X .....Xo X.....XX.....XXo Y.....XY.....XoY which would meant that i would receive; -25% male with no opaline -25% male with split for opaline -25% female with no opaline -25% female with OPALINE. is that correct??? so if i bread him with hen with no opaline, i would get 25% of chicks opaline. if gnetics paly out well.??

  14. Yes nubbaly this is that same discussion. so a dark green, see that the thing is, i thought it was definately not d/green, i thought it must be olive or light as it doesn't have that emerald green intensity that d/greens have?? i will try get some new pictures in good light! umm definately. i will definately post a breeding journal, i am so excited to do so. it will be my first time breeding. but i have to wait til the end of the year as they are still young, i have to wait for Alfalfas cere to go brown and crusty that means she is ready right? and then i will put in the breeding box! :emoticon112: but if i do breed her will that give us extra info on her colouring the bird that i am pairing her with "mortimer" is a cobalt blue, y/f not sure which one i think ty2, and he is opaline, i think as he had blue on his back before, but as you can see in the picture on page 2 of this forum he has lost it?? dooes anyone know why? thanks alpaca boy

ahahha houman, dont worry too much. that used to happen to me, and youd sit there at the hairdressers thinking in your head when is she going to stop cutting? "god stop cutting already", but you dont say it for some reason?? you just let them keep on going and then the guys at school tease you, "ahahh look at his hair". oh well they get over it by the next day ooh post a picture, show us your great hair-do, please!

well the decision is up to you. but im sure what ever decision you make your little friend will totally understand as you obviously love him, and any decision you do make will only be for his best. sometimes these decision are hard to make, but we sometimes have to make them let him know your there for him, and enjoy his compant for as long as it is there
