  1. Hi all, my budgie has grown one yellow wing feather? he usually has all white and black feathers, and now there is ONE yellow and balck feather??? what does this mean? why? muchly appreciate if someone could explain! thanks alpaca-boy
  2. hey evryone, i dont know if you remeber but last time i posted a question about my budgie > alfalfa < she had a greenish coloured body with blue dispersed through the feathers... many thought it was yf2 and the yellow seepeage had caused the blue to turn green but then many argued that she was only a baby and this was impossible as she had not gone through her first moult, it was apperently to early for the yellow to start to seep. so we were all puzzled and i promised i would post again after her first moult well she his either midway or has already gone through her moult and there are some noticeable changes the green is no longer diffused with blue , but instead there is a great blue spot on her chest and the green is by itself now??? im so confused can someone please tell me what mutation, and colourings she is? thanks alpaca-boy ? GREEN BLUE? here are the pictures...
  3. Question? what happens if you cross breed a rosy bourke with a budgie? would you get a pink budgie?? or is it impossible to cross breed these birds? if so how come you can cross bree dogs and.... cross breed lions and tigers? - and donkeys and horse and zebras? just wondering.
  4. wow thats really nice i really like the bag, how did she do that? did she paint it on the bag? or is it a transfer? tell her she is really clever from alpaca-boy! =] oh and my suggestion for the painting.... it costs 10 dollars for the canvas she wants to make some profit and she has put alot of work in to it but on the other hand although their are lots of budgie breeders around here there are not such high concentrations of budgie lovers in the public and it may be hard to sell if not at the right price so i guess it depends on where you are selling! for a market i would say- $25-30 (as an impulse buy) for a budgie lover who really desires these sort of things i would go a little higher maybe $30-35 (as they would be going out of ntheir way to find budgie art) try ebay, or even here!! or a local market? hope this helps alpaca boy
  5. oh that is good to hear joy4me =] nice story where abouts did you live in the 'outback' i agree i too could never kill an animal, how horrible, to whack them in the head if they were in any terrible pain though i think i would have to think twice, but i would never do it otherwise.
  6. here are more pictures ... here he is at one month here he is at one and a half months here he is at 3 years old- where his wing markings have reversed the tips going from green to yellow and the main part going from yellow to green???? how is this possible? Pickle was 4 in the first picture i added in my first post. How could his wing markings reversed????????
  7. Hi all i was wondering if you could help me in classifying the mutations of this budgie is it a light green? i thought it was spangle but then i realised its yellow is where it is supposed to be (on the rim of the feathers, like normal budgies) and then i realised the green is where the black is supposed to be! and i though hmm doesnt opaline only replace the colour on the rims of the feathers? so how can this be possilbe, what mutations are they? can someone please explain thanks grant
  8. Hi everyone, just curious, as i have been reading a bit around the forums and this term keeps on coming up! culling? what is this? from previous knowledge of the word, it think it means to kill to reduce numbers of a species but i doubt all these budgie lovers would dare do this! right??? it sounds awful, this isnt what it means is it? in some forums people say im thinking of culling a few budgies? could someone please help me out and explain? thanks, grant

  15. oh sorry i will try and get a full picture of him soon, also if it helps his tail feathers are white, and his flight wings are also fully white? but i will do my best to add photo =] also what sex? i am dying to know thanks for the quick replies, grant =]
  16. Hi all! here is my new budgie =] i am unsure of what colourings and mutations it has? i would greatly appreciate it if you could inform me =] also what sex is he or she? thanks oh and if it doesnt bother you to much... i am tossing up between two names mortimer and vovo which name do you think suits him/her best? just a little bit of information on th wings, it is normal right? not spangle, but i can see some blyue spread through it, not alot just sparsley, in some spots on the white part of the feather ive heard of opaline, but isnt that when the white part of the wings is completely covered with the body colour? thanks for your help! grant :happy-dancing: in the picture below you can see at the top of the wings a small patch of blue this is spread sparsly over the wings ps: why are the wing markings so clear in some parts but then go hazy in a patch?
  17. This is my budgie of the month entry for februar 2010 =] her name is alfalfa thanks, oh and could you please pm me a quick message to tell me if it worked? im a first time user and unsure if this was what i was suppose to do? thankyou, grant :emoticon112:
  18. Hi all, alpaca-boy here just wondering what mutations does my budgie have?? and is it pied if so which one and what is the difference between dominant and recessive? also what sex is my budgie??? and what colour is it?? thanks guys, =] =]
  19. Wow all your cinnamons are fantastic i too am a fan of cinnamon wings =] im not sure if its the name or the look that we find desirable though... i mean it looks good but the word cinnamon, makes it even more enticing well here is my little pretty girl cinnamonwings =] ps: kazzy i love your dominant pied so pretty ! and ciny is soo cute =]
  20. yeh you see do we really know? i assume most of us made a guess right? man they make a quid on a bird 5-7 dollars and they sell for around 25-30 about $20- 25 dollar profit =0 id sell privately for sure, problem is finding the clientel better treatment for the birds, and more money in your pocket, makes sense! thanks for all your comments!~ grant
  21. yes this is what i had also considered so why are some people so certain it is a yellow face? many have said so in this forum but if not a yellow face type 2 how do we explain the distinct MUAVE markings on the chest? thanks for your reply =] vote stands at: -normal grey/green x3 -olive x2 -y/f2 mauve x6 -y/f2 grey x2 ps: what is golden face? is this the same as yf2 ? or is it another name for yf1? thanks =] grant
  22. Hi all, the other day i was wondering.... what happens to budgies, and other birds, if they are not sold? do they just keep them til they die? i thought that it could be many years before they do or do they get rid of them some how? does anyone know the process ?? i dont really agree with the whole pet shop thing , though im sure some shops do the right thing by their birds grant
  23. they are all so very beautiful my favourite is chupa chups, but i really also like starburst it is interesting how most are spangle but on is normal =] the dominant pied is so cut and unusual congratulatiuons i cant wait til i breed for the first time how old are they? grant
  24. wow! this is so interesting as when i bought it i thought it was a normal green budgie you know, yellow face, green body, but i knew their was something different about it so i started to investigate, glad i did current vote stands at Cinnamon girl -normal grey/green x2 -olive x2 -y/f2 mauve x5 -y/f2 grey x2 so if it were to be y/f2 mauve does this mean if it did not have yellow face type 2 it would be a white faced totally mauve budgie ? that is so wierd, as now it is the total opposite green and yellow =] does yellow face t2 turn the white parts on the wings yellow also as well as the face? as i thought it only affected the face? thankyou all for your help for a beginner it is exciting so it is definatley a GIRL ? as i am planning to get another soon and i want to breed them, so i should get a boy? thanks, grant PS: nubbly5 i will post another picture after the moult but when should i expect it to occur? PPS: i also thought it was to early for YF2 to affect it so greatly! why has it had such a rapid affect? is this possible PPPS: how old would you suggest it be? the photos are very recent it still has its head markings and its cere has not yet changed colour, what else dtermines the age ? PPPPS: dave-mcminn, what you said i found very interesting PPPPPS: thanks for answering all my individual questions KAZ
  25. Hi all, thankyou so much for your replies !! very interesting to someone like me who is puzzled at how to identify the colourings so i have a few points - from what all of you are saying alfalfa is a cinnamon and this means its wing markings are brownish in colour, right? - ITS A GIRL oh wow, so please tell me how do you know this as i had no clue i know it has something to do with the nose or cere, which is purplish whitish and i read somewhere females are brown, and males are blue. so how did you decipher this so easily? -from this forum i have been left with 4 different options of the colouring of my bugie all with equal votes -normal grey/green x2 votes -olive x2 votes -y/f mauve x2 votes -y/f grey x2 votes so i am still very confused so i thought id supply some further information which is more detailed, im hoping this will help you proffessionals identify the colouring of Alfalfa oh and additional photos that have better light so here it is... information- CHEST- at the top of the chest it has yellow plumage which fades down into the green, this is limited to the very top of its chest, the green is a light green colour wheni look really close in good light i can definately see that the colour mixed in the green coat is mauve, not grey, definatley mauve and as you will see in the pictures below possibility cobalt? so it dissolves down the chest from yellow into a green which is then sparsley mixed with mauve in between, the mauve is seen in large amounts near the feet and cloaca? the rump is a green colour, light green though darker than the chest green colour. thats all i have to describe, here are some additional pictures. also i have a suggestion, could it have violet factor?, and could it possibly be dilute, or not possible? sorry i have so many questions, im a curios person and is mottled a chance? also is y/f yellow face type 2? thanks for your time grant =]
