  1. She lives in a very large cage outside with her partner and has the chance to get loads of excercise, but only really flies around when she has had enough of her mate feeding her. Before I got Skye ( my beautiful male) she was pretty much normal size. I don't think it is over sized, no.
  2. I have noticed that my female budgie is plumper than usual. Not fluffed up, just fatter and has a rounder chest. I think that this is because she feeds herself as well as my male budgie feeding her but I'm not sure.

What does trying to mean ? Keeping them seperate even though Mum and Dad think it is silly.

They're fine now. He has settled a bit and since it is so hot today I bought a spraying bottle.

I've finally finished quarantining my new budgie, Skye so I have put him in the same cage as Marigold. All of a sudden he has been feeding, preening and singing to Marigold. He hops onto the same perch as Marigold and does all that. She pushes him away and he flies around the cage screeching. I'm starting to think he is in breeding mode and she isn't. I saw him trying to mate with her and she flipped upsidedown on the perch. Is that normal, should I be worried?
  6. So sorry for you. treat yourself well today.

I am quaranting and I did say that I was planning on breeding them but not right away. They are both more than a year old! You said in your other topic that you werent quarantining and that your parents wouldnt let you or something and that your parents put them together I'm trying to quarantine anyway.

I've only had to go to the vet once and mum and dad paid.
  9. I'll see if I can look them up! Macka was trying to say Victoria is a big place and when someone asks where you are they mean what suburb Oh, sorry, I'm a kid.
  10. I'm only 11 years old, I don't have any money unless you count the dollar that I've lost. Though I really really want to, I can't take the bird to the vet.
  11. Thanks GB, I heard that egg binding is less common in warmer weather?

  13. We didnt have a spare cage inside anyway and the old bird relied on the other one to preen her.
  14. Yeah, I meant getting them to eat other stuff apart from seed.

It's fine. Maybe put a few low branches in? At 4-5 weeks budgies fledge and start to come out of the nesting box. Have some food and water on the ground. If you are really worried put it back in but if it happens again just keep an eye on it and leave it.Also recently in a public avairy I spotted 2 chicks on the ground. They are fine now.
  16. I gave both bird seed first. When I changed the food I added powdered cuttlefish bone to the seed(the hen is picky and won't eat it whole). Next I added corn. I'm going to leave it like that for a while before I add broccilli. Is it a good diet? Eventually I'm going to add apple, carrot and maybe some lettuss. Am I doing O.K? Please correct me if I've got the wrong food, also if you could tell me any other fruits or veggies I could add.
  17. Yeah, none of them are in my area.
  18. I've shown Mum but not Dad now. The female is active and sits on a perch with one leg except if she's flying around or eating or even moving up and down the perches.
  19. I first thought of breeding last year, so I've researched everything that could go wrong, like sour crop, splayed leg, egg binding and the nutrition and the housing. But this is my first go at it.
  20. I'll see if I can look them up!
  21. I know, but Iwent to my friends house and while I was gone Mum and Dad let them back together. I try to tell them about quarantine but Mum just said that my female was lovestruck!
  22. so sorry for you, mate.
  23. I'm trying to keep them seperate as much as possible anyway. I only let one of the birds outside and I'm very careful with her but thanks anyway.
  24. I'd keep her but you won't be able to breed her, maybe use her to foster chicks?
