  1. Yes, I had a female once, and though it was fully grown when I got her and she had a mate and was quite wild after time I could leave the cage open all day and she came out almost every night for a cuddle.
  2. Victoria :hi:
  3. Once I took my budgie to a vet to have its ring removed. When we were filling out forms for surgery she asked us what species it was and was it a cockatiel? She didn't even know if it was a budgie! and she couldn't tell what sex my bird was! Can you understand why I need to know if there are any avian vets in my area? Those vets near me don't know a thing about birds and my bird was frantic when she came out!
  4. I tried to quarantine but my Dad asked me why they were seperate and I told him I was quarantining but he just said that it was a waste of money and that they weren't spending $400 on a big one so that one of them could sit in the smaller cage and put her in with the other one! I really did try to ague Kaz!She's only fluffed up when she's outside, her poops have returned to normal and as for the closing of her eyes, I haven't seen her close them at all. She's very chirpy and energetic, at this moment she's screeching because she can't see her new buddie and dancing on my shoulder! I think I must have been overeacting, but I'll keep an eye on her anyway. She did have a bit of a shock yesterday, she was outside, sitting on my finger, suddenly the wind blew, and her mate screeched and she took off! She flew higher than the roof and I thought that she was going to land onto it, but thankfully she didn't. I suppose some of it is my fault so now she is only allowed outside in sight of her cage(she flys back to it if she can see it .)
  5. I know, I just want everything ready and to check if I've got everything.

I agree. Think what happened to the other birds he was selling, Boof was the healthiest there and I'm starting to think she died from megabacteria. :hi:
  7. I recently bought a beautiful new budgie. I was starting to quarantine him but my parents didn't let me for some reason. I have them together but I have noticed that Marigold, the female, has been acting oddly. She sometimes has slightly puffed feathers(only slightly) though this may be due to the sudden change in the weather ( I've only just moved her outside) and her droppings have also changed from darkish to sort of greenish. This may be due to a change in her diet ( i recently introduced powdered cuttlefish bone mixed in with seed). When she thinks I'm not looking she closes her eyes a bit. Am I over-reacting? one of my budgies died during the holidays while staying at a friends place and I don't want her to be sick.
  8. Hey, can anyone tell me how to start breeding? I've got the light thing, the budgies, the nesting boxes, the bedding, a huge cage, the nutrition, the calcium and natural branches, is there anything I've missed?

Hey, I'm new too. Welcome to the forum. If I were you if you are going to breed I'd get the birds off different breeders.

    Sweet birds you got there.

No, I'm not in Perth. Out of all of the birds that the breeder put up for sale Boofer was the healthiest.I hate to think what he would have done to Boofer if nobody had bought her, she was useless for breeding.
  12. Yeah, he's a boy all right, with a clear forhead and a bright, smooth blue cere.Nope, sorry, but as soon as I work out how to post pics I'll post them. Thanks Kate, might use killer.

Hey guys, my new budgie has completely fallen for my hen, he screeches whenever he can't see her, so I'm planning on breeding them.

My budgie Boofer ( now deceased) had three safety spots where she would cuddle up in. 1. Her cage. Though I never shut the cage door she only got out twice, the first time it was an accident and the second time I forgot to put some fresh food in and I found her scavanging. 2. My bed. She would often fall asleep on my hot water bottle under my blankets. 3. My dressing gown. I couldn't train her till I found that though she wouldn't sit on my fingers, she loved cuddles, in my dressing gown. She would sit in the front of it and sometimes fall asleep at night in it. Have you ever heard of a budgie who actually liked to be squished?
  15. My old budgie recently passed away, leaving Marigold without a friend. So I bought a new one, a beautiful boy. The old budgie died of illness and I didn't seperate Marigold from it because the old budgie would have died from loneliness, so I'm worried about Marigold's health. I'm quarantining her now since she started closing her eyes a bit when she thought I wasn't looking. She also started slightly puffing, only slightly, but since I have kept her inside tilll now that may be from cold. She still cheep and is active, but I've lost a few birds due to not catching the illness early on.
  16. Hey, I brought home a new addition and I can't think wahat to call him. It's a blue colour with a hint of violet with a white face and it bites really hard.
  17. I hope they found those creeps, they're just cowards, breaking into an elderly womens house and killing an innocent little budgie!
  18. Lucky you, my two birds flew away due to an open door and some clever beaks. Trust me, I didn't see them again.
  19. Hi

Breeding must wait until the bird is both quarantined and acclimatised to your space. Couple of months. I'm quarantining him now but I've got everything set up and I know about egg-binding and the diet and stuff like that.

    Cool birds you got there!

    Thanks.
  22. I recommend gum tree. It's the natural tree that budgies nest in and it is non-toxic.

She was. She was fat when I got her and she had scaly mite and a problem with her wing and a swollen leg and raggy tail feathers but I really loved her. It's just hard knowing I won't see her again.
  24. I'm so sorry for you and little turbo, it's tough losing someone that close to you.
  25. I'd seperate him from the rest of your budgies, fast. If he gets any worse warm up a hot water bottle or put him in front of a fire or heater, also keep him hydrated. Sick birds often die, not from the illness but from dehydration. If he hasn't touched anything apart from seed, maybe his previous owner only fed him seed? Are you sure he's actually eating seed, not just picking up whole ones and dropping them? Just keep him in the dark and quiet for now and if you have a good avian vet I would consult them.
