  1. Yep, right on schedule. Has she probably stopped laying?
  2. I oringinally thought that Skye was a normal blue split violet but today I noticed that he had some blue going through the wings and on the flights, does this make him another mutation?
  3. No pythons round here. The snakes usually stay put in the vegie garden or shed.
  4. Thankyou. A fourth egg arrived today! I'm not allowed to candle the eggs. Marigold has been a good mother today, putting up with the heat!
  5. Nope, nobody really eats porridge here, but I could check the cupboard. I got some pics of mum and dad Marigold wouldn't let me see the eggs, but as soon as I can, I will get pics of them, too. Sorry for the late pics, really should have got them earlier Here is Dad. Here is Mum. And Skye again. Here is a good one of Marigold. Marigold is looking for something to eat.
  6. I'm so sorry for you and Buzby.
  7. What kind of snakes Ratzy? Teeny green grass snakes that like grasshoppers and insects or something that might find your budgies a tasty meal? Maybe it is time to let your Mum in on the secret and get them removed by a professional? How would you feel if they bit one of your other pets or even you?! Renee, basically they are part of life here. We have poisonous snakes like tiger snake copperhead, brown ect. The only non-venomous snake we get in Vic is the Murray River Python. If we get a removilist more will just move in so why bother? We live next to a bit of bush too.I don't have an avairy, just a massive cage outside! They can't get in. The snake has moved to the vegie garden in the compost heap.
  8. okay, but I may have to use some newspaper for now.
  9. okay maesie, what nesting material do you suggest I use?
  10. Well, I do think it is time for pics, I'll see if I can get some tommorow! The cage can be seen through the window and the nest box is position so we can see inside the hole. She can't see us because of a piece of newspaper!
  11. Thanks! Will post if another egg is laid.
  12. I think Marigold is split to blue, too
  13. Marigold layed another egg!!!
  14. I have a sheet of paper which has number of eggs date layed, date should hatch, date hatch, date grow feathers, date fledge and date weaned. Well, I would, if Marigold's eggs had actually gotten to those stages. But that is the plan.

Sorry , I guess I believed it. But they don't talk as much as males, do they?Thankyou nubbly5.
  16. Not back at school for a few days, Robyn! Today they were mating when Marigold got out of the nesting box. Since Finnie didn't get an answer, I will ask for him. Is it normal for the male to switch from side to side?
  17. thanks, Finnie. She wasn't properly incubating when she laid the first egg, but is now.
  18. resting after laying her egg most likely although some do incubate soonish she may not be. Didnt I tell you to stop checking her ??!! I'm not. You can see from the house, though she can't see me. She started to incubate when the first egg was laid and last night she was in there the whole night.
  19. I doubt she is.....its what I was saying about it seeming like they are but she is only in there to pass the next egg. No, sorry if I made it sound that way. She has been out four times today, for a few minute each time. Normal behaviour for a hen about to lay an egg which is whats just happened.....and not incubating yet. and since another egg isnt due for another two days now can you stop checking her please ???????????????????? Sorry for being so persistent, but it does look like she's incubating, she has 2 eggs under her and she is all fluffed up. Of course, I may well be wrong, you have more experiance than me.

  21. okay.... Skye is at the nest hole, waiting for his chance to feed Marigold. Marigold is about twice as fat, sitting on the eggs. Beepa is annoyed at being forced to live away from the budgies.
  22. I'm keeping records of the eggs and such. I have no more wood shavings at the moment, Marigold chucked it all out, would it be okay if I just shredded some paper?
  23. All my birds come from pet shops but 2 because I don't have any breeders around here that I know of. I have only owned 2 english budgies and Boofer was one. I think Boof was 11 years old when I got her.
  24. As I told you before, I only peep once a day. Today, she happened to get off her eggs while I was around, so I got the camera to take some pics, but the battery went flat, so I just looked.
