Ratzy's Breeding Journal
I have more pics on my new camera.... I'll sort them out tomorrow. Chicks are doing well and have been introduced to gum leaves. Youngest now belongs to my brother for an early birthday present from sis. Would you believe he called it Dude? I'll show bro around the forum and get him to join. Yesterday the whole family went on an outing inside to cool down. They had a bath and a spray and dried off on top of the curtains.. Marigold was great with the chicks.... feeding and preening them. The only worry I have is the chicks don't seem to be able to fly downwards. To my surprise Skye actually hopped on my shoulder, then followed by the rest of the family. Have you ever played chase the birds? It is a game where the birds don't want to go back in and let you pant while they sit on top of the bookshelf looking down at you. After a while they got bored and came down though. Dude flies to me, sweet. I have a mystery for you to solve. When I bought Skye he had a ring on his foot and now I've realised it isn't there. Would he have been able to chew through it?

Pink Budgie
That 'pink budgie' in the last photo looked really pretty.... fake, but pretty. If I had a pink budgie I'd probably hand it over to expert breeders to breed.

I'm A Bit Confused With This Chick.
I originally thought my eldest chick was a violet, because of the violet coloured tail, then I thought she was a mauve, because she looked grey and her parents don't have any grey that I'm aware of, but I just read that mauves have blue cheek patches and her's are grey. SO now I'm really confused. If you could clear that up I'd be happier. Thanks in advance.

There is food on the ground and up off the ground. I'll try to get more pics of the bubs out of the nest box but I have an issue with the camera.

Thank you. All chicks seem to be eating except the little one who can't really fly.

Pink Budgie
I wasn't saying that hybrid birds don't exist. Personally I've seen a few. BUT...... Budgies are single species. As in there are no subspecies I have heard of. With the galah and cockatiel, a cockatiel is just a small species of cockatoo and I fully agree that they can hybridise. The chances of a budgie and a bourke liking each other and being compatible are not big. I have never heard of a budgie hybrid. I agree with LILBABYBUDGIES. If we keep hybridising then the species will become rare. The dingo is an example of this.... too many have hybridised with dogs and so the pure species are rare. Hybidising happens accidently, as with the galah and the cockatiel.

Back Into Breeding
Great! I honesty have no idea on what you could get but some wound be albino split.

Pink Budgie
They all have a similar genetic make up. There is a lot of difference with a budgie and a bourke. It is impossible for them to breed as I understand. With cross bred dogs they have all descended from the same creature. See..... even 12 year old kids know stuff.

Nest box is out... everyone is perching. I'm a bit confused. You see, Skye is courting the youngest chick, who looks exactly like Marigold except for the chick features. And he was mating? Should I remove him too? The eldest is copying him by jumping on her brothers back. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, New Member
Is it just me or is the one in the last photo a spangle?

Is This A Good Breeding Setup?
I personally wouldn't use those kinds of cages for breeding.....but wait for the experts before you change things around.

Beautiful! I really have no idea on the black winged one but it does look a bit weird.

Marigold isn't very happy now..... she doesn't like being alone. Mum and Dad made me put the babies in the nest box, not the ice cream container. I will just put in some low branches for the chicks then I'll swap back. Really, I'd be lost without this forum, and, even if I'd managed to get some chicks I'd probably lose them to Marigold.
