Egg Question
You can normally hear the chick chirping too... If you listen carefully you will hear a soft chirping from inside meaning the chick is still happy or you will hear a distressed chirping sound that is when you will need to help the chick hatch...

New Egg With One Near Ready To Leave The Nest?
If eggs are clear still and you do not want her to have another clutch remove the eggs as she lays them and make sure she has a supply of calcium to keep her strong... :laughter: Once the young that are in the nest have left than remove the pair or remove the nesting box... She will keep laying while she has a nesting box available to her... Another idea is to foster the eggs out to another hen at around the same laying dates... :laughter: I should also state (as I was kindly reminded) that removing the eggs will encourage the hen to keep laying, so maybe allow her to laying and once the other young have left than foster the eggs out if fertile... I assumed the young in the nest are leaving very soon that is why I suggest what I did above... Sorry to anyone who disagreed with what I said...

Cec's Aviary Tour
Well, today some of us from the MBC we special enough to be welcome with open arms to the aviary of Brenda and Cec Gearing... It was a all day trip with lunch and drinks provided and many many laughs aswell... We had a few hick-ups along the way but we got there... Cec had a number of beautiful healthy show budgies up for auctions (mostly Red and Blue rings, with a number of Adults available too) and his cull cage was also raided by some... Nosey people we were... I was blown anyway by how many birds he had and how large the set-up was but it wasn't overly large but had everything in it and still more... It was great to see a big time breeders set-up and realise that your set-up is just as good but smaller and you can make something of this great hobby too if you put the work and effort into it... To Brenda and Cec, you have a lovely home and family (dogs too) and thank you so much for inviting us to spend the day with you both... And a big thank you to those who put in the effort to make it such a great day... Thumbs up to you all... I purchased 3 beautiful Albino's while I was there, 2 hens and 1 cock, and I look forward to using them in my breeding room when the time comes... Will try get photos up soon... Oh and anyone who missed this trip, I highly recommended you go next time around...

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
Wouldn't this be breaking quaratine... I'd never want to expose my healthy birds to anything a pet shop may have hanging around them and their birds. I would have no intentions of taking my birds further than near their front door and counter and certainly not down and next to any petshop birds. I think that would be safer. This when you could use a small number of birds (2-3max) as birds that are ONLY used for this reason... But cared for just as good as our show birds are... This may help reduce the risk of bring anything home with us... Some good tips GenericBlue and we can always hope they do know what their doing but it doesn't and hasn't stop sick birds being showed... Maybe all it takes is someone to say thing and offer a helping hand... Many hands make light work... And how could we hate you GB... We can do rip off tabs for a customer poster, not a problem... I do have a slicer that makes the dots in the paper making it easier to rip off...

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
I would defaintly do leaflet (for shops to use, training staff) on sexing, adult or baby, basic health and medication. The others like Kaz said the new customer can come here for extra help, info and support... Totally agree with that Kaz, too much and we may go nowhere with it... Start off slow, go in a pet shop, look around and than talk to staff about the birds they may have, say who we are and offer help and if they like we can leave them the info leaflets... Later on down the track when they are trusting us we can ask to leave info for the customers and advertise the BBC website... I found working if retail if you push too hard or do long speachs it lose's interest... I have a pretty good printer, and it only cost me $10.00 for my ink... So I would be more than happy to print things off to get us started when need... Changing BBC to Budgerigar Breeder Club Inc, can easily be done Amy... Maybe in the long term we can get bigger pet shops to change their ways on how they deal with birds and customers... Oh and i forgot to add that if this becomes a success we can do fundraising actives to raise money for printing and any other things we need later on down the track...

Yep defaintly... So come on people anyone wanting to help with this change than we need your help to make it happen... Any more idea's all??? A leaflet for sexing, baby or adult and happy healthy check list... These are the ideas we have so far the leaflets the Pet shops will have on hand for the staff... Anymore great idea's guys...?

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
I had in mind more of a BIRD WATCH GROUP rather than inspectors as it seems more like we are watching and helping not necessarily an authority that inspects their premises and birds. psychological connotation I wouldnt have the email address but give the shops posters with tear off forum address for "further assistance" for the budgie purchaser. Kaz, just 'Bird Watch Group or BBC Bird Watch Group'... I too like that name better... This poster I have made is just for staff only to learn the basic info when asking customer questions... For the customers purchasing budgies I was thinking a brochure with info and care on them with BBC website on it for more help... So customers would never see this leaflet only staff... Customers would have one of their own... Does that make sence...? :S

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
Thanks Maesie, I'm glad it makes sences to you aswell... It nice to know others understand what I'm trying to get across or suggest... But i'm more than happy to change anything as we all know this is a team effort to make this big change in Pet shops all over the world... Thanks to Karen for the kick start in making this dream start to take shape... Thumbs up Kaz...

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
When I say store use only I mean for staff only... I have been looking at making a brochure for staff to have on hand for the customers, which I would like to see on display at all times (that would be the aim for the customer brochure)... That will have the BBC website on it... With the email I even thought that we could have a special section made on the website here where emails would be posted for members here to reply to and than once we are all happy with a answer someone who has access to the emails can reply back... Once a email has been received and read and posted on the forum whoever has access to the email can send a email back saying something like 'Thank you for your email the BBC Inspection Team is now discussing your enquiry and we will email you back as soon as we can.'

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
Have made the change on my hard copy on the PC to 'Males and Females'... Thanks again Maesie... Just read your update reply Maesie, Well because this copy is for store use only, I thought it better for a email address instead of the website (just my thoughts, no reason why anyone using it can't change it)... Because than the store manager would have to become a member in order to ask a question and everyone has email...We can always put both too... :)And people in different areas can always change the email address to, different email for Queensland to perth...P.S. Mind you if we all used the sameone no one would have different info too...

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
Opps, Thanks Maesie I didn't even notice and everytime I read it to myself I read 'females and males'... LoL... Hmmm maybe I should check myself in somewhere... Hee hee
