Oh my goodness...... I have been around only a very short time but I have learned HEAPS !! * Quarantine - how important it is * Toxic foods - check FAQ'S BEFORE you put them in your avairy!! * Diseases - and how to prevent them * Foods - it's not just seed... * Genetics - still trying...but VERY hard I have learnt heaps from this site, and I thank each and every one of you guys that give everyone your free time to answer our questions and help us all learn... It wouldn't be such a fantastic site without all of your experience and patience.

Thanks everyone for thier input. Now that I know that they will and can breed together (a bit blonde of me to think they wouldn't/couldn't!!) I think I will do what AV suggested and remove my hens 2/3 weeks prior to breeding, I would like to keep my bushies as bushies, and my normals as normals...... I'm pretty sure I have 2 males..... and they are brothers anyway, I would need to get a hen from somewhere else and I rarely see them, the only other ones I have seen in a pet shop were a pretty bad example of so called bushies, :bliss: but hey, I'm so not an expert and they could well have been... Thanks everyone.

Hi everyone, Does anyone here have bush budgies? If so....can they go in my avairy with my other "normal" ones?? I have 2 brothers, (I think :emoticon112: ), they are about 2 and a half months now, and have been housed together in a cage inside since I got them which was in the middle of May sometime. I am concerned because they are much smaller than my other ones....plus I wouldn't want them to breed with the other ones...would they try?? Thanks in advance for those that can help... :hi:

Hi Kellie and welcome, I am only new to this site as well, there is heaps of information and the others guys have so much knowledge...... I do think that you should have quarantined Bella though, I learned that lesson the hard way and around 10 of my birds died, that would not have happened if I had quarantined properly...it was very sad... :rofl: Anyway, thats my thought, the guys on here have years and years of experience, I'm sure they will welcome you and advise if this is correct.... Hope to see some pics soon.

Morning Guys, Is there a way to determine how old a budgie is? I got my "old man BUDDA" about a year ago, the people who had him were just going to let him go, as they didn't want him anymore...... He was in a cage inside for ages cause I thought he was sick, he's never "fluffed up" or anything just bobs his tail when breathing, his feathers are droopy and never have "sat nice".... he can't fly very well and tends to sit on the ledge in the avairy in the sun instead of a perch as he seems to loose his balance when he nods off.... I bought him inside in a seperate cage about 2 weeks ago cause I thought it was getting too cold at night, but that only lasted a week and a half, he made such a fuss, he wanted to go back to the avairy with the others.. He has been like this since I have had him, he eats well, poos well, and loves his veges, sits and chatters to himself, keeps to himself a lot. Maybe he is just old???

My...I really botched that up didn't I !!! picture 2 wasn't the one I was talking about !! sorry .... This was supposed to be picture 2....

Today I was in my avairy "trying" to take some pics of my Lacey, for another post, and after a few minutes of just standing there quietly Lacey came right up to me and started nibbling on my Tshirt...the others saw this and about 5 of them came over ( I have 11 in my avairy) - I was leaning on a ledge - most just came really close and looking but Lacey and another male were gently picking at me, Lacey even climbed up on my shoulder - pecking my earrings and my hair, I was amazed as these are avairy birds - never been tamed to my knowedge....I just stayed there quietly chatting to them for about 10 minutes....I had a really bright purple Tshirt on....do you think this is what they liked??? I have been in the avairy daily - chatting and taking pics and this has never happened before????

I tried to get more pics of Lacey today....I think I might need to get a show cage and take one of her in there....she looks a bit differ A black eyed self bird should have their back, rump, breast flanks and underparts all an even shade of colour throughout. So....picture no 2 clearly tells me that she is not a BES .... definatley a DILUTE!! ?????Goodness me !! - Not sure how I made that mess!! sorry
