Pairing Up For '09
Thanks for the pep talk Nubbly, I'm going to hang in there. Time, effort and a lot of learning. I already have some stock birds some of which probably would have been better off left behind but some aren't to bad. I'd like to get a few good foundation birds though, I'm hoping to save a bit of $ and go to an auction somewhere as there aren't a lot of people down here willing to part with good birds, understandably.

Help With Pairing Please?
Glad to help. Definately a boy, just looked a little brown in the picture. Good luck with your pairings. Out of interest, have any of the birds formed pairs of their own?

Help With Pairing Please?
This is how I'd probably pair them. You could get Spangles & normals/opalines, blue & grey. All hens would be opaline and all cocks would be split for opaline. If the green is split for blue (which is pretty common) you could get green and blue spangles & normals/opalines. As with the above combo all hens would be opaline and all cocks would be split for opaline. All green birds unless both are split for blue if so you could get blues too. Some dominant pieds some normals. Hens would be normal and cocks would be split cinnamon. with or Someone else will have to do the maths on these guys  Are you sure billy is a boy, he looks like a hen in the above picture. Probably just the angle.

Pairing Up For '09
Seeing pairings like these makes me wonder why I even bother trying to breed show birds, I'm in way over my head They all look great!!! Good luck with them.

Judgements Please?
I need to get a few more normals, I only have 4 and with 2 of those are split ino and ones a yellow face, not sure if that's is still classed as normal. I don't even know for certain that the other one isn't split for something???????????? (3 of my normals are in my signature, two in the middle split ino, sky blue hen on the left hopefully not split for anything). I'm hoping to get a few more birds but I'm trying not to just buy whatever I can find and wait for some really good birds to come along. Which is difficult because there's not many people selling birds down here. I don't mind traveling for them but I don't really know where to travel to. Guess I'll just wait for the next auction within driving distance and hope I can nab some nice birds there.

Hmmm......... so maybe I should give her a try and see how the bubs turn out. If they're going to get a feather cyst (hereditary type) does it usually happen in their 1st/2nd moult?
-

Thanks, I'm not sure if I'm going to use Queenie for breeding as she developed a feather cyst a while back and since they're hereditary I'm a bit worried about her passing it on to her young. If anyone knows how likely it is that feather cysts are to be passed on down the line any info would be appreciated.

Judgements Please?
Thanks for the advice but I think I'll risk it, they seem to have bonded in the aviary so I'll see how they go.

Some pics of the gang now in the aviary. The aviary temporarily has one of those plastic table cloths haning on the outside acting as a wall to block a little wind until my partner puts some more colourbond sheets on, it works well enough. Chalk, a fav hen of mine. Although I should probably change her name to carrot as she's basically addicted to them. Cheese, Chalks other half. Lift-Off (when I 1st got him he escaped but was easilly caught as he seemed to fly in slow motion) Beardo, chatting up his invisable girlfriend. Casper and Big Mamma, forever a loving couple. Shambles and Queenie, Shambles always seems scruffy.

Annual Cull
Good luck with your cull, I don't where I'd begin if I had to do something like that. Will you be selling your culls on here? Don't forget to include photos of all 90 of them

New Birds
It's strange I didn't rate him much when I 1st got him he was just being sold as 1/2 of a pair and I wanted the hen but he's growing on me more and more. As all my birds settle in and finish moulting and I get to know them some that I thought were better birds than others I've ended up changing my mind on I don't really care if he's mauve or grey but I might put him with this hen as well as the Albino I'd planned for him just to see what turns up in the nest.

Ella The Eckkie
Hope she picks up for you and all goes well. They're fantastic birds, I've wanted one for years. They're on par with African Grey parrots intelligence wise so not only can they learn a multitude of words they also know what they're saying. Along with words they can be taught things like colours and object names too. I think they're supposed to be like a 3yr old child. If your eclectus asks for an apple and you try and give it a bannana it won't be impressed :grbud:

Judgements Please?
There's a slide out wire mesh section on the bottom. There's also going to be a slide out metal tray for cleaning.

Judgements Please?
Decided to put her with this guy instead of the cinnamon to avoid the flecking risk. I'll probably use this pair to trial my 1st breeding cage setup before I put anymore together within the next few weeks. Fingers crossed they'll go well it'll be her 1st nest. Breeding cage still under construction

New Birds
Maybe he's got violet factor, could that make him look a little blue? I'm sticking with grey though.

New Birds
A few more pics of the Grey/Blue taken today Grey Split Albino. Some are a bit blurry sorry.
-
New Birds
Pretty sure he's grey, he does have a blue tint though. If he did turn out to be mauve that'd be fine by me I'm looking for more dark factor birds :WobbleSign:
