Thanks Kaz I went there to get some dominant pieds and dark factor birds with a preference for blue series so I don't think I did too bad and I am happy with them just wish I could've got more!

More new birds (from budgie 1981 this time). They're all hens, I was very good this time and didn't go out looking for hens and come back with more cocks like I usually do. I've put pics in show cage so you can get a rough idea of the size of them and then added some other shots for fun Cobalt Dom. Pied 07 (going to pair her with Grandpa from pg1 of this topic when she's ready) with Mauve hen Cobalt Dom. Pied 09 (daughter of above) with Grey Opaline Grey Opaline 07 (thinking about pairing her to one of the grey brothers I got of Rain Man/Carl.....not sure which one?) Mauve Opaline 09 (wouldn't sit still in the show cage so this was the best shot I could manage) with Grey normal & 07 Dom Pied Grey 09 (I think she's going to turn out to be a very nice hen as she matures) Last but not least Grey Green Opaline 07 Hope you enjoyed the pics
  3. Looks like a sky blue cinnamon recessive pied to me from the pics shown above but a picture of the bird from the back would be helpful. Also if you know his parents pics of them could help also.
  4. Just thought I'd add my new WA birds to this topic Grey Green Cock Thinking of pairing him with Light Green Spangle Hen Although he has become very fond of Grey Green Cinnamon Opaline Spangle Hen so I am considering just letting them have their way but my original thoughts for her was Grey Green Spangle Cock Then I've got these two boys, (Brothers who I think would like me to put them in a breeding cage together but that's not going to happen) Grey/Albino Cock (dubbed B1, he's the lighter of the two) & Grey/Albino Cock (B2, a little darker than his bro) my original thoughts on these guys was to pair them both to this hen Grey but know I'm thinking that I might put them with these girls as well Albino (sisters) 1st girl top perch 2nd girl bottom perch 1st sister is single at the moment and I didn't have any plans for but the 2nd sister I'll be pairing to the cock she's sitting next to on the perch before putting her with one of the above boys. Any thoughts/suggestions as always very welcome

Some pics of the newbies (from WA). The grey cocks are brothers and Split Albino. Any suggestions on pairings (with each other or any of my other birds welcome). For now they'll be resting in quarantine and getting a little TLC, while I think of names........
  6. Hey Crystal sounds good to me. I'm not a member of the club yet but I'm going to soon so I can get some rings for when I start breeding.
  7. Congrats. I had no idea they were that hard to find, theres oodells of them down here, just no decent budgies. Ahhh just saw you live in Canada
  8. If your starting an Albino line and your grey spangle cock is a good bird as you say then he would strengthen your Albino line. You could use the Split Albino cocks you get from him as part of your foundations. Also you could still use him with another hen for a non-albino line.
  9. Okay so you have: This hen and cock (cock on right in 1st picture and same 1 in 2nd picture) These cocks, the grey being split for Albino. And these grey hens. If your going to do 2 rounds with them I'd do: Spangle Cock to Opaline hen. This will get you some more grey normals you can use later. (When I say normals I mean non-Albino carrying birds) Grey/Albino Cock to Albino hen. This could get you some Cocks: Albino and Split Albino and Hens: Albino and normal. I'd do this so that I'd know for certain that any cock birds showing normal were split for Albino. A split Albino cock to a normal hen could produce normal and normal/Albino cocks, I'd like to know what I was working with. Albino Cock to Grey Spangle Hen. This will get you Split Albino cocks and Albino hens. Albino Cock to Albino Hen. Albinos. Albino Cock to Grey Opaline Hen. Split Albino cocks, Albino hens. (Cocks would also be split opaline) that's probably what I'd do but I'm going off colour combinations and pictures. You can see them all in real life and compare and assess them all a lot easier but since you were asking for opinions Hopefully one of the experienced show breeders will be able to give you a better critique of your pairs.
  10. Good that's she's not cinnamon since you'll be using her/her young in Albino pairings otherwise you couldve ended up with some Lacewings.
  11. A tool for cutting through metal. Although a members' budgie on this forum is named Nibbler too
  12. Clearbodies are a beautiful mutation, one of my favourites. Congrats on your lovely chicks. Both hens yes?
  13. Cocks from the Grey/albino and Grey opaline would be split for opaline and possibly split for Albino. Is the Grey opaline hen also cinnamon?
  14. I'm in the same boat as you at the moment. I just got back into breeding budgies and have never bred for show before. I have brought some stock from my local branch and am looking to buy a few nice birds at an auction then I'll breed them for a few years and hopefully I produce something show worthy after a few generations. I might enter a bird in a show earlier if I fluke something special before then.

Understand where your comming from with the budgie talk, I've got some strange looks from listeners on when talking about a cocks blow.
  16. I'm only starting out with show birds so my opinion probably isn't worth all that much but he looks like a nice bird to me. If you could get photos of him in a show cage it'd probably make it easier for people to judge him. In my beginers opinion: He looks like a nice long bird from the pics, He seems to have a good depth of mask, He also seems to perch well, good follow through after the perch, Directional feather and blow look okay from the pics too. I'm only comparing him to other 'inos I've seen in person but I'd be glad to have him in my aviary and I'd rate him better than my Lute cock. You could always find a nice normal grey hen to pair him with as well, might be a good option to add in any desirable features he might lack that may be hard to find in a Albino hen. Having said that your hen is very nice.

Loving couples, some of my planned pairs that have stayed together after being introduced to the aviary. Beardo and Queenie Cheese and Chalk (these 2 get a bit raunchy at times) Sadly not all my pairs stayed bonded, Mr lost his girl and has to be content chatting to himself.

More 'more pics' taken today. Chalk my personality + hen having a spinach bath. After, looking a bit dishevelled. Grendell having a go. All in. This Spinach really isn't big enough for the both of us.
  19. I've bred budgies sucessfully in a colony set up before, it can work. You could try reducing your number of hens and keeping 2-3 nest boxes per hen. I don't know how big your aviary is but perhaps you could put your breeding cabinets in your aviary? I was careful not to introduce any new hens into my colony when the existing hens were already breeding too. The hens in the colony would fight over the boxes they percieved were the best but eventually they'd all settle to seperate nests. Once they have a cluth in their box they generally don't bother fighting with the other hens. The problems come when you have a hen with eggs or babies already and a hen without that wants her nest.
  20. I agree with Kaz about Billy and Cindy, didn't notice that Cindy was listed as grey though I guess my mind just added the green on the end.
  21. I noticed how Nubbly said she uses Spangles like normals. I'm hoping to save some $ and hopefully find some good birds here http://www.budgerigar.com.au/west%20sydney/Auction%20ad.pdf
  22. Dominant Pieds & Spangles mainly but I also want to keep a fairly strong supply of normals too. They're always handy. Which is funny because a lot of the birds I have now are ino's or split ino's and I only have one Dominant Pied. I don't really know many people that I could ask to bid for me. I think I'm just going to have to put in a bit of leg work.
  23. Not a lecture just good advice  and much appreciated. The birds I have are the best I could get of what was on offer at my local branches annual show, there wasn't too much on offer though. I'd like to go to an auction to find birds from a good stud. Also since my initial bird purchase I've decided to narrow down the varieties I'd like to concentrate on a little to make things easier on myself and give me a bit of direction. Also waiting for the Rob Lucas birds to come up on BuyBudgies, one of the varieties I'd like to concentrate on is Dominant Pieds.
  24. Billy and Grace = Grey Green opaline hens and grey green split opaline cocks. Also a chance of Blues/greys if Billy is split Blue.
