I knew it!!! I thought she might be a Lacewing. Was sold to me as Albino but I noticed the same markings, 1st thought it might be stains from food but looking at the picture and looking at her again she does have cinnomon markings on her mask and they haven't gone away since I got her. Cool, I like Lacewings. No markings on her wings though, mask only. Looked again at the picture and although you can see marking on her wings in the picture you can in real life, maybe the flash brings them out. Thanks I new the Sky blue Oplaine was also a spangle just must have left it out for some reason when I was typing. Both pics of the Skyblue Oplaine Spangle are of the same bird.

I initially thought this guy was grey green but at closer inspection and at comparison with other grey greens I'm not so sure.

New Birds
Well that's good to know, the 2 Albinos are Joe Darmin and the Lutino Cock Peter Dodd. Too bad I can't remember any of the other names mentioned to me........ I suppose I'll get to know some of the big breeders in time

New Birds
I think that I'll still put them into divided breeding/quarantine cages for a month at first to get the pair bonding happening and then I'll remove the dividers to give them the exercise they need for about 6-8 weeks then divide them again for breeding if they're in good shape.
-
New Birds
I'd have to put 4 in there otherwise I won't have enough room for them all.

New Birds
I doubt my ability at making interlocking modular breeding cages but a wire divider would be do-able. I was originally planning on making my breeding cages 60cm long, 50cm deep & 50cm high. So if I remove the divider or make a removable divider it'd be 120cm, 50cm, 50cm. Would this be big enough for them to get the exercise needed?

What would be the reccomended dimentions of a 'holding' cage. I'm supposed to keep cages etc... to a minimum, I rent and my partner already thinks I have too many things to move, although more than a boot load is too much for him :offtopic:

New Birds
That was the plan breeding cages doubling as quarantine cages, pairs will have time to form a strong bond and also they'd have more room housed in pairs in the breeding cages than as groups in the cages I use for quarantine. Given the need for room to fly to ensure the hens are strong for breeding how big of an area would they need to be housed in? As I haven't yet made my breeding cages perhaps I could alter my plans to give them the necessary room. I don't have a spare/quarantine aviary (I wish, would be nice).

New Birds
I wasn't planning on breeding them for a few months yet but I was planning on housing pairs in breeding cages instead of putting them in my aviary (not breeding them just housing them in them in with the entrances to the nest boxes blocked off). Is there any reason why I need to put them in a flight? Are breeding cages too small to keep them in for a few months??? While being housed in the breeding cages they'd still be kept seperately from the birds I have already. Also the breeding cages will be kept in a sheltered area whereas my flight aviary is more exposed to the elements.

How Can I Breed Black Budgie
I've been thinking lately that since the black faced budgie was created from a bird that had a little of the black marking extending onto it's mask and was selectively bred to make this 'defect' more apparent until it eventually become like the above picture that maybe flecking could be used in a similar way? Maybe, it is black markings on parts that are usually meant to yellow/white? But I really don't know much about this kind of stuff, it may be a interesting experiment though....... Dark greys with heavy flecking...... bred into black capped birds, maybe they'll even go dalmation or leopard depending on if they're white/yellow :offtopic:

New Birds
Thanks for all your comments. Looks like I need more greys (light greys) and a few green/dark greens. I never see any dark greens around though, they might be hard to find. My plans at the moment are: Keep hens and cocks in their seperate cages for now (about a week), both cages in my laundry. Make breeding cabinets. Make my final decisions about my pairs. If after a week all are happy, healthy and no one has shown signs of illness, I'll move planed pairs into the breeding cabinets (with nesting holes closed to prevent access). When pairs are in top condition and seem 'friendly' I'll open the nesting box holes. I've ordered the following products from vetafarm: CALCIVET PROBOTIC AVICLENS COCCIVET BREEDING AID MOULTING AID (I haven't used them before but have seen some of them reccomended on here so I thought I'd give them a try to help condition my birds). This is the seed I'm using at the moment Does it seem like an okay mix? Does anyone know of Joe Darmin or _______ Dodd? Some of the birds I purchased had stickers on their cages showing what line they came from but I don't know of any lines???

New Birds
Thanks It might just be the picture, I haven't noticed a blue sheen on either of the Albinos (I'm guessing your talking about the 1st one haveing the blue sheen as the other Albino is paired to a grey). Okay just re-read what you said..... blue tends to leave sheen on Albino not Albino has blue sheen. She'll have to stick with a blue for now as the only other grey I have is the spangle cock and I'd like to leave him with his spangle mate. Maybe if I get some Grey cocks out of the Grey/Albino X Albino pairing I'll put her with a grey cock next year. These are all my birds, pretty much.... only a few pet pairs other than these. I was hoping to show some birds eventually, maybe these guys grandchildren..... if they're up to scratch. I did get some bargins out of this bunch the Grey green Cinnamon cock, the grey green oplaine hen & the sky blue hen were only $10 each and the Light Green D.Pied was $15 (although I purchased him a while ago).

What Colours Can I Expect From These?
Thanks, It will be interesting to see what emerges from the pairs, hopefully it can give me an indication of what genes they are hiding (if any) and whos hiding what. Any suggestions on the pairs? (found on above link) Should I switch some to get better quality birds or did I do okay?

What Colours Can I Expect From These?
Thanks, I'm actually surprised at how close I came, also the grey I said was split for Lutino is split for Albino and the Lutino hen I was planing to pair him with is Albino and the invisable oplaine gene is because I forgot to say the cock was oplaine. Thanks for the help :boogie: Pics of the above pairs here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....mp;#entry303076
