Welcome Julie. Wing clipping- the one wing clip is an older way they were done and it causes the bird to become off balanced and as you have stated can cause accidents. Having then both clips still means the bird can not fly (far or high) but they are balanced. If you feel confident int he pet shop do as Kaz said and return there for the other wing to be done OR if you cn find an avian vet near you you, why not see if you like them so you know you have someone to take her to for check up and treatment later on. Sounds like you are doing good with her taming and I'm with masie - that all of you should keep talking and training her so she didn't bond with just your husband which can cause jealousy issue later. I'm sorry to hear about Charlie, it is hard to lose these little ones that become part of the family. I'm thinking Billie might be a Yellowface Ino also called a Creamino. But I would love to see pictures and we can let you know, and guess at her gender (we get most of them right )
  2. Only Recessive traits can be split. A dominant pied parent to a normal will produce both Normal and Pied babies.
  3. :budgiedance: the yellow in the wings does looks stronger than what you would see in a normal.

first question: How long have you had him?? You stated "recently got a new budgie from a petstore" which makes me think under a month. To tame a budgie it will take patience and time. I would start over and built up the trust with him. Millet is a great training tool. It's been a while since I've trained a bird fully, so I'll leave it for others to give pointers. But we do need to know how long you have had the bird.
  5. I would think they are half and half if not from show lines there Kaz. But I like that Hen and why not Triffle for her name?? Custard is a dessert so why not follow a Theme :budgiedance:
  6. *Nerwen* replied to BEV's topic in Breeding Journals
Thank you BEV that confirmed what I was thinking he was. A Texas Clear body. Although the baby has very pale wings where they should be normal strength of colour I'm thinking it might be one as well.
  7. *Nerwen* replied to BEV's topic in What Sex Is My Budgie?
in the shots the first thee look like hens to be too (the recessive pied for sure) The last one looks more male. Young males will have a VERY strong pink cere, even in colour. the hens have pale blue/white or purple, or a mix of all three. I'm sure there is a thread on here with pictures showing cere colours and what gender the bird is I will have a hunt around. here it is: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=13906

  10. looks like Ozzie was insulted about that comment too
  11. Yes show types make good pets just like the smaller 'pet budges' The only differance is show budgies are larger and have thicker feathers that make them look 'fluffier' than the slim lined pet ones.
  12. *Nerwen* replied to Wayno's topic in Budgie Talk
I too rest the parents and keep the young in a separate cage for a while. This is to keep an eye on the parents health before allowing back into the flight.

Came home today to find little Santa at the bottom of the cage, seems his foot got stuck and he panicked. Fly High little one.
  19. GOLIATH X SOOTICA = Beautiful bubs spangles pieds spangle pieds opalines (if I remember Goliath is split) spangle opalines pied oplaines spangle pieds opalines colours will be yf type 1 cobalt and skyblues MICKEY X SOFTY Opalines Noramals Pieds Opaline Pieds in yellowface type2 and sky blue plus all chicks spilt for greywing
  20. I would put this birds age at about 5 months, rather than 8 months. The cere is still clearly pink and sometimes a bird can moult at the normal 3 months but the cere take a few more months to change. He looks dominant and a shot of the eye would help, if the ring has appeared it could mean he is a bit older if not I would stick with the 5 month age. Sorry you where told the wrong thing at the pet shop, many will tell you want you want to hear, but really many breeders will not give up their young birds until after the first moult anyway. If the bird was 12 weeks old that would mean it was most likely sold to them by a bird mill.
  21. She stated Clear FLIGHT not clear WING. To get a DEC you still need 2 recessive pied genes so your girl will have to be split for that for any DEC to appear.
  22. no I can see that know with the better flight feathers.
  23. as the others have said yellowface type 2 opaline. Matching this one to a white wing (Clearwing) you would only get rainbows if this one is carrying the clearwing gene as well, as it is recessive and both parents need to have the gene for the young to appear as one.
