  1. I can't think of anything? You might just had to do the dull and boring work of training. Such as each time you catch them at it removed them from the spot and either a quick time out in the cage or back on to the cage.

if this is their first time around 2-3 weeks is aobut normal for the hen to work out what the box is about then then start mating witht he male and before eggs appear. If they have breed before this time is shorter from about a week to two.
  3. Yes a different gene is responsible for them, but the point is Blue isn't the base colour of the birds.

have you seen a budgie add to the nest lin? In the wild they use hollow trees and such and remove the insides until they are happy. Looks like you have some wood shavings in there already which she had pushed away making herself happy the way it is. You could hadd some move if you want but she will most likly push it all away again.

Yeah poor little Ziggie, it's not as if that was all he ever said. And that chris fellow must feel somewhere in his heart that he did the wrong thing becuase he still misses him. He shoudl have gotten over his ego and kept the bird. He even said he thought Ziggy was looking out for him!!!!
  6. Yes Bec inbreeding was used becuase althought the bad genes where made stronger so were the good ones. Ohh they do said that about dogs and in agree but I wonder if it's really true at all. Thinking of the dog breeds out there and any other one (not taking in size differences) and you could get a dog with the bad traits from BOTH breeds. I know a crossed dog is still far from mogral status but continue the line down, cross that dog with another bad mixed dog and you can get a puppy with bad traits from four breeds! Now where was I going with this :yellowhead:
  7. AWWW I love him :yellowhead: Donimant pied and I'm with type one, I can see the bit of green on his chest in the frst picture but he looks too old not to have any bleeding around his throat area and so I think that bit is down the the flash. Yes lovey that cream is meant to be there.
  8. okay trying to keep it at your terms so its understandable, it is more like the first bit, you start with a white canvas and add both blue and yellow to get the green, becuase you can have just the yellow to get a yellow and white (or yellow and black) bird as all.
  9. yes this is normal the spangle gene affects the throat spots as well.
  10. got ya Daz I want to try in the near distant future to get some double factor ones
  11. Get a blue female rather than a green one unless you know that she is split for blue then that would be the best, you would get a mix of blues and green. I think a pied would work well. Dominant for best results. If you got a spangle then all the babies woule be double factor spangle which appear like inos but with out the red eye. Since you want babies to look all different that wouldn't work well. moved this topic to correct location
  12. :dbb1: I don't think that extra toe is helping with your typing
  13. I acually have no clue with crested budgies, since it is a type that I don't really fancy. But skimming through that website it seems you need at lest one crested parent to get any crested babies. But also if you know two normal budgie had the gene you would get crested babies.

pet shops or a produce store
  15. :dbb1: at Lin's words. :ausb: Yes. not reall sure what you mean with this statment, but yes the presence of yellow makes the green. And a head/face yellow not green Yes this is right. Yellow is dominate, but the blue (white) is not absence simply overruled by the yellow. Blue is a recessive gene. hope this helps.
  16. sorry Kirby didn't see this before. I love the idea of the aviary split in half, a great safty idea there with the walk way between. And yes swaping bugies (kinda) as you said works. I would guess the only reson it took your pair so long before would be that they were alone. The sound of other budgie stimuate the wish to breed more since they are flock birds. Also the condition and age might have been factors. But as daz said you would want to know the bird your were 'borrowing' were clear of disease, with quarantine and/or trips to the vet.

I don't think they would be fertile, by the sounds of things it means she is alone and a cage and box? I doubt the sperm would last through the four or so weeks of raising chicks and then the week or so it take to lay another 8 eggs. It would be more than likely they are clear. Much healthier for her to be removed from the box and allowed to rest from raising chick on her own. Re stock her vitamins and calcium levels in her own little body.

:grbud: Wonderful shot, i'm sure that is one in a million deal there :ausb:
  19. :grbud: I see you found the topic. I'm so super glad to hear that all is going well still and can wait for some pictures of them all. it might help if you posted a topic the heath about the signs and treatment give for little Blue for Canker so if other see the same thing can get help faster. (not that many here don't rush they pets to the vet) Have fun on the rest of your holidays :ausb:
  20. Hurdy is right but there are many ways to get a yellow bird, if this one has red eyes then it's lutino but if normal dark eyes it could be a dark eyed clear or a double factor spangle. Or if it has markings on the wings like normal a clearbody. All act differently when breeding. Green is dominate over blue but matching to a grey bird you would get grey greens which look like olives (a dark or karki green)

It can be but many candle them with out any harm. They do have porous shells (which means they are full of small holes) As long as you have clean hands and keep touching to a min all should be fine.

Yep. Just thought of something, I think with these there are only four in the packet. I'm going to have to put the whole lot in so there isn't much fighting.
