So Confussed!
sounds like it cracked when it fell. Yes first time mum somtime do realise when they should be in the box to lay the next one. My Freckle laied about 5 out of the box before working out what to do and even after that laid one outside again. Before settling down doing a great job.

Is It Possible To Make A Nest Box Out Of Plexiglass
interesting idea. As long as it's dark like a normal box made from ply would i['m sure the birds would use it, I would only worry about if they could chew it at all. And how would you put the peices together? With some sort of glue? you would need to be sure it was safe with birds and to be extra safe not inside the box where they can chew at it. The other thing would be plexiglass would be slippery to them. Splayed legs might a a worry then in the bubs.

So Confussed!
When mum is spending more time in there he would get closer and don't panic if he does enter the box, that's okay too. OR else he will simply sit by the hole and sing or eat again to feed her some more :budgiedance:

Please Help
Most leave any eggs for about week after the due date, but if you feel it's past by now and would rather remove it that's your choice. As to the chick if it hs healthy and the other feathers are working fine I wouldn't worry too much, he will learnt o live like that. It would be a great idea to get a avian vet check him over, either now if you feel you can safly move the whole family or later when he has left the box. If he doesn't have any flight fethers on one side you might have to be ready to clip the other all the time so he doesn't harm himself in flight. THere are many different thing to think about and plan that might not even happen. He might grow some in moult even. With the toes Bea has some birds with missing toes that live fine with other birds.

was Just about to say the same eterri.

Blood Rings
I have never heard of an egg blowing up. But I would guess the same would work from duck eggs to budgie egggs with bacteria. If you are REALLY sure or REALLY worried you can throw the egg away, but it does take a lot of practice to read eggs with candling well. I will hunt out a website I saw one here with images of eggs at differant stages for you to look at. Here: http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww36eiv.htm

Hand Rearing
1. i would like to hand rear 1 what age should I take it away from its mom I can't answer this I haven’t tried and don't wish to if I don't need to. But I think folks to this around the two week mark. 2. should i colanal breed?or when they start pairing a bit and ready for breeding seperate them? This is up to you and what you think is best for your budgies, as long as you know the pros and cons for both. Colony breed is easy to do but it's hard to keep track of and bring to a halt. Also there is the risk of fighter hens which can be a the cause of many broken egg or deaths. With paired breeding you can pick the parents and know who’s is whose family so no inbreeding can happen. 3. how big should the cages be if not colonal breeding? A normal sized bird cage works. 4. can you look at the eggs with out upsetting mom? Yes and no, it depends on the mother and you can only try with each to see how much she is willing to let you interfere. It is best to check them at least one a day but this is also to check that mum is doing okay as well since you will not see much of her while she is brooding. Give a knock on the box to warn her before lifting the lid to check. 5. how many nest boxses for 1 pair? In a breeding cage you only need one box per pair. With colony breeding I think you need offer two per hen so there is a choice.

So Confussed!
There can be a few reasons But I wouldn't give on the eggs yet. Sometime budgie don't start to sit on the eggs and brood them until there are a few there, she might start doing so after the third egg which will appear two days after the last egg. Other reasons could be simply down to first time breeders and not understanding what to do. They might be underage, you shouldn't breed with budgies that are under a year old. Because they are still growing themselves. Or as the pet shop said they might be infertile. If she doest sit on these egg then no harm down you can remove the box (maybe a week after the egg have been ignored) and read up some more before trying again. Also when breeding it best just to have the pair in a cage alone, the third budgie can bother them while mating which can lead to clear eggs, bother the hen in the nest which can lead to broken or dead babies, or attach the parents or babies to get the nest box for them self. So if you haven't already move the third budgie to another cage. wendy beat me

We Have Babies!
They come out just like mom and dad through the hole the Perch under (beside) the hole they will use and learn to balance. You will see them jump in and out of the box for a while just like that before getting brave enough to move further a field. The white one is the youngest so compared to the others the feather will still be breaking out of their sheaths which are harder to see since both the sheaths and feathers are the same colour.
