thanks for that Karen, and YAY or Rose and Harley I'm glad you gave them a box (Laughing out loud). Looking at Sonny and Kaya I wonder if you are getting a cinnamon Spangle baby there.

Inbreeding In Budgies? Mixed Feelings?
That basically how I feel Karen. I don't see the point of line breeding in a stock like I have which is simply for me to enjoy, and gain the 'fun' of watching baby budgie growing each day. Budgies are not a bird that stand on the edge of extinction, each and every baby is not important to keeping the species alive, and it's very easy to get 'fresh blood' into your flock. BUT I can also see the reasons why some show breeders will use Line breeding, this might be because my grandfather, who showed chickens and was a well known breeder around the local area. He used line breeding correctly, breeders do not want strengthen weaknesses in their potential show winner. I think the ones that don't use this correctly are breeders that are only out for a buck, the 'puppy mills' of the bird world.

How Do!
:(Laughing out loud): I agree 100% PP Trust me he can throw and kick it very high. I'm sure he just went back to his hanging bell. I have a set of four hanging bells in Tweetaville and some one broke them, so I left on on the ground for them, Berry his sister, tricked all the others ( just the bubs) that it was the best thing out and once they where fighting over it ran off to gobble the millet in peace. :(Laughing out loud):

What Mutation/color/sex Is My New Bird?
Hawkeye is a wonderful name.

New Breeder
Yes I would leave the egg for longer. 18 days is just a guide to when they will hatch some can take up to 21 days. It all depends on how well the mother sits on the eggs and from when she started. Some hens will start sitting from the first egg, other wait until two or three eggs. Read around and ask questions, we don't get mad for repeated questions, sometimes it's hard to find the right info you want with the search tool. Don't dispair if none hatch this time, they can try again stright away if both birds are still in good health.

Bubbles can you show me Kaya and her partner again?? I was thinking Curry was the dad of these ones then realised he was with Laila and their bubs are only pink dots yet. (any news on Precious and Spot?) Scooter and Bao.... where is my Zeus? as to Misty's babies, I think all should be type 2 yellowfaces. And the oldest and youngest could be either greywings or full body clearwings which means dad (Chucky) has to be split for a dilute gene.

Hi! New Member, Have A Few Questions~
I agree Hurdy, the second pied (bird) and the Lutino on the left look out of condition (for breeding) which can make them look like boys.

New Budgie...whats All This Body Language Mean?
I can't see the picture now, but he does sound a cuite. and I love the name Welcome to the site

Yellow Face
the YF 2 gene is dominant over th YF 1 gene. The YF gene is dominant to the blue gene. The YF can be a df which mean's all babies from a normal blue match will be SF yf. These SF yf's can have both YF babes or normal blue babies.

How Do!
just wait Zebra they might shock you, I put these toys in just after removing the nest box, they all poked at them a bit but he didn't really start to play with it until about a month after been alone.

Mother Budgie Attacking Babies Beak
budgies don't they will make sure all are feed while in the box. They will breeding continious clutches while the feeding is good in the wild becuase they know numbers is safer. Yes when the food runs out they will leave the nest sites as well as any babies not old enough to fly but will not kill on of a clutch for the other to live.

Dutch Dominant Pied
ahh thanks Rainbow, I guess that means My statment at the start about thinking the look of the wings on Daz's picture ( taken from the ABK book) was from another mutation was incorrect. It's not recomended to mix the two together becuase then you have magor troubled to break the two gene up again. As to what you will see, I'm not sure possible something that looks like a DF dominant pied. bubble maybe we miss picked the mum? And Chase is a girl taking note of the cere this time. Was there questions i missed?

Mother Budgie Attacking Babies Beak
well mum attacked them becuase she wants to empty th nest again to start the next round. Please call your avain vet NOW tell the receptionist ( who is normally a vet ***/nurse) what happened and beg to have the bird seen too. Infection can set in quickly here and the bird need to be seen rightaway, as lin stated.

Trying To Figure Out The Sex Of These Two Budgies
I argree Bubbles. But please teel your friend to learn all she can about breeding first, knowing how to tell the genders of budgies would be one of the basic first steps in budgie breeding. Can s/he get on to this site? If so urge her/him to join and ask heaps of questions. Check out books from your library, they give a small bit of info into breeding also.

Name This Genetic?
no they are okay, even cute sometimes, but the feathers on the back just make me think of PBFD

Dutch Dominant Pied
YEs he looks like a dominant, the best way to tell as always is the iris rings, which should be showing themselves soon if he is. As to the colour around the neck, with all working of picking out mutations you can not rely on just one factor. If bobby's wings where patterned differently, as in the black markings in one area on the wings, then yes DF dominant pied would be a better choice.

Genetics Test
:(Laughing out loud): I was hoping to scare you with that.

Dutch Dominant Pied
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darry...minantpieds.jpg This is the other dominant pied it is not talked about often, the Dutch Dominant Pied. This pied gene like the other dominant gene gets the iris ring. This pied can gets an almost full wing pattern like a normal, the more mottled look in the wings as shown in Daz's link above (the bird on the right) I believe is from a different gene yet again. The colour of the body is more of a bleed of colour from the neck to the chest. It can be confused with a recessive because of the patterning of the colours but a Dutch dominant tends to get more of the normal base body colour. Males of this dominate pieds get the deep blue cere. Now Questions or photos if you think you have one...
-
Meet Bobby!
(Laughing out loud) Yes Cheeta. Max A dutch pied is one sort of dominant pied you can get. recessive pied have spotted/ mismatched markings on the wings, no iris ring when older, body colour only on the belly and rump area. Also a bright orange beak. The males of recessive pieds do not change to the deep blue when older.
-
Meet Bobby!
ahh I see the spots your talking about now Cheeta It's possible but something tells me recessive is right for this fellow.

New Budgie!
many on the board start to interact with their birds straight away and I've noticed they are the ones that settle with hands and humans quickly.
